Re: Week 6: Athens (5-0) @ Steubenville (4-1)
Not to be that guy, but just to get back to the discussion at hand...
Athens v. Steubenville anywhere else in the state, I honestly would give Athens the edge in a big win.
I've heard people from several schools in both Ohio and West Virginia make comments about the "home cooking" that seems to happen in Death Valley,
so my instinct tells me that these people didn't all get together one day over coffee and say "Hey, let's make up a rumor about Steubenville."
Still think the Dawgs get the 'W' but it will be a close game, and I have a feeling the Athens first string may play all 4 quarters this time.
Dawgs - 48
Steuby - 35

Not sure how all this works but State Championship.moonshine wrote:Going out on the limb! Bold statement will save this one!athens78 wrote:First Steubenville has won 9 State Championships and been runner up 3 times. I'm pretty sure all those playoff games and State Championships were played at Death VAlley. So stop blaming officiating a week before the game is even played. Of course if you read articles in the paper or listen to folks on here Athens has never lost a game, it's always been officiating. Second I'm with doubleplay this is a huge business for them. What's their stadium hold 10,000? Check their schedule they play a lot of Division 1,2 and 3's. They have an indoor facility, a practice field that is better then any field in the TVC and tradition. With all that said I'm saying DI signee's Burrow and Williams lead Athens to at least a three touchdown win. This should be the year of the first State Championship for Athens.
Athens currently in 5th place in there region. Looks as if this is a must win week for Athens for computer points because they have a paddy cake schedule left of division 4 , 5 and 6 schools that most will end up have losing records.
So the top 4 gets home field advantage, so a loss to scandalville this week and they might be on the outside looking in.
Good luck to the dogs but don't see a state championship insight. Maybe not even a Regional Championship.

wow!!! state championship Maybe you should worry about beating stebuie b4 thinking state champs bc if you don't win here you will struggle to make the playoffs and on top of that you need to beat a good tri valley and the power house Jackson ironworkers and I don't see that happening nothing against Athens boys bc they are having a good year just a tuff region. :122249

Well he is "rated" as best QB in Ohio, so you need to justify your statement there with something more substantial than your lay opinion.Wizard wrote:athens78 wrote:If Athens doesn't win a State Championship with this talent this year it will be the biggest waste of the best talent in the State the last four years. I think even if Athens finishes 8th in the division they walk through it no problem. IMO. When the start the fire out of the Man of War horse it will quickly be extinguished by the bulldogs air attack and Ohio State recruit Joe Burrow the best quarterback in the Ohio and probably the country.
I seriously doubt that Burrow is the best QB in Ohio and to say the best in the country is laughable to say the least.
JUST MY THOUGHTS GUYS!!!

Who in this Region has Athens not already beaten? Tri Valley? Opps, beat them last year in a great game. Do not get all worked up about seeding, at that level, things come down to just win baby!CautionTape wrote:wow!!! state championship Maybe you should worry about beating stebuie b4 thinking state champs bc if you don't win here you will struggle to make the playoffs and on top of that you need to beat a good tri valley and the power house Jackson ironworkers and I don't see that happening nothing against Athens boys bc they are having a good year just a tuff region. :122249

Would love to see Athens pull this off.
BUT....
Big Red toughens up after a loss to MW. Big red Strenghth of schedule has them toughened up.
Athens hasn't seen this in a regular season game in years...
BIG...
28-6
good luck, though!

Whew! Ohio, maybe. But the country?

What are the chances of the bullpuppies failing to make the playoffs if Steubenville beats them! At least, I think they would lose home field!

More of a chance than Logan has of making the play-offs.

lol , Athens posters acting like Logan posters of old
93 Athens was lucky to get passed tri valley , you had no chance against MF , and again this year you guys are just getting all excited just to find out Athens is just another Logan team of old , you make yourselves feel better by beating who you should beat , but never will beat anyone worth talking about
! You Athens posters can feel great about all these wins and points that you put up , but once you're on here posting after you don't make it out the region .. Swallow your bias and pride and just realize you're a great team in seo.. And certainly not the best ever so just quit w that
;) have a great day Athens I'll be at leghorns at 7:30 for dinner if you wanna join !

WOW. First of all, I got a guy from Logan talking about a team's strength of schedule.. Have you looked at yours.

No final score predictions from me...I just can't wait to see the game Friday night. Win or lose, the game will be great to see.
The Big Red faithful have a very good forum going as well - http://www.ovathletics.com/forum/showth ... -Red/page5
Three things of note from the forum:
1) there is a theme that the Bulldogs will be intimidated and will underperform due to the overwhelming nature of Death Valley. Anyone who believes this must not know J Burrow and Company very well. These guys thrive under pressure - the bigger the stage the better.
2) there is a theme that the Big Red will knock the Bulldogs around - that the Bulldogs haven't seen a team as physical as them and the Big Red is stronger, faster, more physical. These are the same type of comments that Tri Valley was making before last year's playoff game (while Tri Valley was strong, physical, and big on the lines - the Bulldogs found a way to win).
3) there is a theme that their defensive scheme will confuse J Burrow. See number 1 above. He thrives under pressure and is a very bright, mature QB. Try and confuse him and he will burn you.
Again, no final score predictions from me, but I don't feel the above will be major factors in deciding the outcome. Can't wait to find out though!

Under pressure like against Marion Franklin ?
So you're comparing last years 3 loss MVL tri valley to state power Steubenville ?
Luckily for Athens they have a chance and more than a chance to pull this out considering Steubenville looks to not be as bad A as they usually are , but still going to pick Steuben to pull it off just out of annoyance of Athens posters

Stubenville has a .500 record against teams from the SE District, so teams in this area must be doing something correct.
