Week 6: Athens (5-0) @ Steubenville (4-1)
Re: Week 6: Athens (5-0) @ Steubenville (4-1)
I'm not sure they do Bulldog. They no both are going to make the playoffs and besides Tri Valley and De Sales Athens win easily over the others. So maybe two teams do. For the Big Red they are average this year so besides the team that may have to play that first game at their place I'm not sure the rest care, unless by a miracle they would upset Athens then the other teams may want to be concerned.

Might not be how you spell his name, But he is the OHSAA guru on the football playoff point system if they have not changed systems!athens78 wrote:Who is Mr. Harbin?

Drew Pasteur has Athens 99% chance of making the playoffs with 9 wins. Don't worry, win or lose, athens will make a deep playoff runbaseballstud24 wrote:Wow...What a travesty it would be for Athens to slip up in this game and possibly not make the playoffs..

And he had Gallia beating Athens last year. Everyone knows Athens and Desales are 1a and 1b to win region 9. 3rd would be Tri valleyathens78 wrote:I see that Drew Pasteurs is picking the Big Red by 5 over the Bulldogs on JJ Huddle. What a fool. I also see his rankings of the top 50 schools in the State no matter what division. Athens and Big Red are not on it. However he has De Sales at number 36 and Tri Valley at 46, WTH. He also ranks the top 15 teams in each division. In Division 3 he has De Sales #5, Tri Valley #9 and Jackson #10 and Athens not even in the top 15, again WTH. At least he has Trimble at #6 in Division 7 and Wheelersburg #13 in Division 5 and Valley #15 in Division 6.

Even I went up to the hilltop and cheered on the Chieftains during their playoff run in the early-mid 2000's.
Heck, I even drove to Zanesville one year to cheer on Portsmouth West.
Don't warp your view of a team because of 'posters' on southeasternohiopreps - that is ridiculous.
You are dead on here 93: absolutely horrendous how these people root against their own back yard on a State wide stage! And then these same people will complain when Little Johnny from their team is passed over for State Awards. When we discredit ourselves, how will others take us seriously!
Re: Week 6: Athens (5-0) @ Steubenville (4-1)
Any game in Death Valley is a State wide Stage. This will be a big one. OH and Athens got exactly $3,000.00 for going tonight. That came from a person involved with the Athletic Department. 3K and a big win, can't beat it. Has anyone heard if any college is looking at the Leuaman (spelling sorry) boys? I haven't heard of any.

3k might cover expenses unless the bullpuppies are getting some donations!athens78 wrote:Any game in Death Valley is a State wide Stage. This will be a big one. The only reason there is attention is because of the best Quarterback in the country, Burrow is playing in it and it's up North where football rules and Big Red are a tradition Power House, although down this year.
Joe is a darn good QB and he has a chance to compete at tOSU, but he isn't even the best QB in the state.

The "harben" rankings is a computer based points system that ranks each team in each region based off of wins and opponent records........
If anyone hasn't heard of it after being on this site for more than a day, then they must be idiots.

Athens makes it at 9-1, if that happens they are projected to be #6 seed. When they win tonight 10-0 most likely gets them a #2 or #3 seed....assuming a lot for everyone else but should shake out there somewhere. Obviously won't matter what seed, they are a juggernaut no matter if they are #1 or #8.RAIDER6309 wrote:Drew Pasteur has Athens 99% chance of making the playoffs with 9 wins. Drew is pretty accurate, especially as the season moves on. The first 4-5 games of a season are based a lot on last years record in his algorithm (not that I understand it lol) so that explains a lot of his first game goofs (Gallia-Athens for example last year)...also his state rankings tend to start to resemble the AP rankings as the season progresses for the same reason.
Athens should be boarding the bus about right now, so score update is: Athens -7 and Steubenville 0 lol....just kidding, just kidding fellas, don't blow me up.
Re: Week 6: Athens (5-0) @ Steubenville (4-1)
I have no clue how the computer rankings work or who Harbin was. I just see the results on Monday. This has to be the most complicated of all sports tournaments. With basketball and baseball no computer rankings, second tier points and anything else. They just vote for sectionals and it rolls from there.

C'mon moonshine let it go for a week lol. Everyone in SE Ohio needs to tune in tonight and support the Bulldogs.
You can get your revenge next year.
I am glad the Warren-Jackson game is a 7PM start may get to listen a little to the Athens game since it is a 7:30 start.
It is a good thing Athens doesn't have a fire breathing Bulldog...propane bill this year and last would be a chunk of change.

It actually is pretty straightforward, and one could argue (fairly effectively) that it is a lot more equitable than the "backroom" deals made for roundball and baseball.athens78 wrote:I have no clue how the computer rankings work or who Harbin was. Computer rankings is the most fair - and accurate way to do it.
BUT ... backroom deals and shenanigans make great topics on preps!
