The Series is a interesting one to say the least I remember teachers telling us at one time it was so bitter that people was making bets by cutting of their fingers.
It is one of the longest rivalries Ironton has along with Portsmouth at one time it was a brutal rivalry and has calmed down quite a bit I guess from the early years of it.

Re: Week 4 (1-2) Ashland KY @ (2-1) Ironton
its calmed down due to all the a@@kickings thru the lutz era. ashlands last win at tanks they were taking pictures under our scoreboard withthe final score still up. that should be front and center onthe bulletin board in the tigers locker room. according to my info the series goes back to 1919 with ironton losing the 1st game to ashland 28 to 7 and then evening it up with a 7-0 win the following year. my info goes up to 2000 with ironton leading the series 35-28 and 3 ties. however from 1972 to 2000 in the lutz era they played 25 times , ironton led the series 21 to 4 . i am sure there are some smart guys that can remember back the last 14 years . lets go tigers lets get a big win to break in the new field.

For what it's worth, here are the results through 2004 (I'd consider this to be unofficial).

Not quite cutting off body parts, but I seem to remember some spray painting of the high school entrance back in the 60s or 70s.maniac66 wrote:The Series is a interesting one to say the least I remember teachers telling us at one time it was so bitter that people was making bets by cutting of their fingers.

I'm pretty sure that this is the 2nd most played series in Ironton high school football history (Portsmouth being 1st).

Got to love the rivalry even if level of competition from Ashland and Portsmouth are down.

Ironton wins this one. The recent trend of the home team winning holds true. 35-20
