Re: SOC - Week 4
Waverly was ready to play and stepped up to the challenge. Burg never got into a good ryhthm...they hit the post several times and had plenty of opportunities but couldn't find the back of the net. Waverly keyed in on Burg's primary weapons and kept them out of the game and took advantage of opportunities when they arrived and were able to put one in. Burg had the talent depth advantage hands down (Waverly has some very talented players too), but some of Burg seem to want the game to come to them and didn't put out a good effort to take the game to the Tigers. Consistent effort and play from the Pirates and they would be very hard to beat...but they seem to leave the door slightly open on games like tonight and the Tigers slid in the back door.

Re: SOC - Week 4
I thought Burg clearly had the better overall team, but Waverly's Purpero was clearly the best player on the field and in the end he made the difference. Burg controlled the ball much better with a good passing game and had several scoring opportunities including at least 2 off the woodwork. Waverly looked like they did not want to play it out of the back as much as they have in years past, probably due to the all new and young back linew who must have had their best game of the year. Much improvement since the last time I saw them. Was that the first clean sheet for Waverly? Waverly looked to send through balls a lot or otherwise get it to Purpero at midfieild and finally got Purpero on a breakaway for the only goal. Very impressed with Maddie Parsons to be competing so well with the boys. It's a shame that Waverly does not have a girls team where she and some of the other Waverly girls could really shine.SHAQ25 wrote:Waverly was ready to play and stepped up to the challenge. TheFlush is right about Pupero...he moved to the ball very well and created some good opportunities for the Tigers. Maddie parsons is a player. I was thou thoroughly impressed with her level of play.

Re: SOC - Week 4
I feel this was the most complete game the Tigers have played all season. In the past movement both on and off the ball wasn't happening well. In this game they were ON especially Jacob Pupero. As far as the Pirates, it wasn't their night and missed opportunities cost them the game. Go Tigerzzzz!
Re: SOC - Week 4
This is what high school soccer is about. Lots of emotion last night from both sides. It got a little chippy but that could have been controlled by some tighter officiating earlier on. I personally saw about 4-5 yellows last night between the 2 squads and only one was issued. A lot of stopping the clock and talking to players instead?
Anyways as for the game Waverly chose to defend more than normal and do their best to control possession when they got the ball. Purpero and Bradley were the 2 best players on the field and it showed as they both had excellent games. Waverly's keeper Stulley and their backline did an excellent job as well. Stulley made 2 huge saves in the 2nd half.
Overall Wburg had more chances but after the 1st 15 minutes Waverly had the better chances for the most part. Should be an excellent rematch and once again a 3 way battle for the SOC.
