The inconsistence at QB was a big problem last year. the controversy surrounding that (to be vague purposefully) is an indirect reason the entire staff is gone.

For the school and the west community to turn their back on somebody like mike Bricker, somebody who has coached pretty much all the west fans on here, in my eyes the man was West Side ( no pain to gain) football, I miss the old mans goofy walk down the sidelines screaming his head off , chewing tobacco flying in our faces, ladies and gentleman, we lost a legend, now that my friends is West side football.
No disrespect to Coach Johnson, but west football is no longer the same to me, but once a Sider always a Sider,
Goodluck West Senators Friday Night

I agree but I would say this that I thought the coaching staff handled the whole situation well.Westfan wrote:dreamweaver wrote:The inconsistence at QB was a big problem last year. the controversy surrounding that (to be vague purposefully) is an indirect reason the entire staff is gone.
Re: Week 1 Portsmouth West at Newark Catholic
I'll take the bait. Exactly how is anyone turning there back on anyone? The school board aided by a committee hires a coach. That coach selects his assistants. I don't care who the coaches are, nor does 99.99 percent of the community.WestSideFan2002 wrote:For the school and the west community to turn their back on somebody like mike Bricker, somebody who has coached pretty much all the west fans on here, in my eyes the man was West Side ( no pain to gain) football, I miss the old mans goofy walk down the sidelines screaming his head off , chewing tobacco flying in our faces, ladies and gentleman, we lost a legend, now that my friends is West side football.

West probably has as good a coaching staff as any small school in Ohio. We are very lucky to have them. They are experienced winners that know how to build a program. Which is exactly what the community is doing from the pee wee system up.
And for some posters on here to continue to criticize a kid to push an agenda is very unethical.

1. I'm not I'm not blaming a kid, I'm blaming the parents of a kid, back when I played moms do wasn't aloud near the field, now they are in the locker room and what not, on the sidelines, we nominate a Sider mom, back in the day if a player got benched, the dad would would look at you and say you shoulda done this or that to keep your spot or whatever, no I agree football is not the same anymore, and I agree it was time for a change here at west, Coach triplet was coaching 80's football, you can win like that unless you have a a line averaging 250 plus, and I know for certain that Mike Bricker wanted to help this year, he had been a non paid coach for 30 years, he has volunteered his time with the boys, heck he even probably coached you, and I'm not gonna change my mind, it was wrong to keep him off the sidelines, West Football is all the man knows, that's all he had, he coached before his son was even thought of, he done it for all the kids on the west side. I agree we have an excellent coaching staff, Coach Johnson is the start of a new era, an has no idea who Mike Bricker is, so I don't blame him, I'm just pointing out that west football is not the same without Mike Bricker, he was there for every kid, the kids with money, and the kids without money, a good man, he may not be the most updated football coach, but he turns kids into football players, turns boys into men, the man was and still is West Side Football

Let me ask you why these coaches, and no disrespect to them, because they are doing some things I like, are so great? Because they won at Liberty Union big the last 5 years or so? What is the record there?
130 wins and 110 losses or something like this? How is that so spectacular? Triplett and staff had what 35 and 20 some?
I wish them all the luck in the world out at West. Someone did not go about all this the correct way though. It is not about any one coach that did or didn't get to coach, it was the entire process and the "why" of that process.

I like Mike. In fact I like several of those guys. But he isn't owed the right to coach at the high school level. Nobody is. The coach got the assistants he wanted. And in my opinion they are going to turn West into a small school power in this state. Which hopefully is what we all want.

You are either the Dad of a coach or other family member or GOAT. 8)
The one thing about this staff I don't care for is the cocky attitude they seem to have.

I think the same thing. The new staff is downright arrogant. Sorry since we are being honest just thought I would add that to the discussion.
Re: Week 1 Portsmouth West at Newark Catholic
Coach Triplett is very similar in style to his own football coach Coach Lutz. When it comes right down to it, football is not rocket science, and you need talent to win. I am a fan of both Coach Triplett and Coach Lutz. Love their style of play and they are my two favorite coaches at the high school level. Sometimes as with Portsmouth, spreading the field can lead to too much finesse and not enough power football. Teams are successful both ways, but the most successful teams that make it to the state championships have a great running team first and foremost. As the great Woody Hayes said, there are three things that happen when you throw the ball and two of them are bad.

Well gong on the guess. Not related to any of the coaches.
I could care less whether you like them. West hired football coaches not best buddies. Darn good ones by the way. And the boys I know love it now.
More than anything I'm glad the circus of disorganized chaos finally left town.

uh huh, finally letting your true disgust show! Must be right about who you are! Good luck to all the area teams, they are going to need it against these coaches, no doubt. No sarcasm intended here. I believe you.

You and your how may other aliases just don't know when to quit.
Best worry about your Tigers. That once proud program is imploding before our very eyes.

Every team in this area, beware. The coaches at West are smarter than you. Just ask them.

You may really want to go talk to somebody seriously. Because no one here cares.local superstar wrote:Every team in this area, beware. The coaches at West are smarter than you. Just ask them.
