WEEK 1: PORTSMOUTH @ VALLEY
Re: WEEK 1: PORTSMOUTH @ VALLEY
From the portion of the game I saw, the Wolford kid had the "Clowney" hit of the game! That was awesome to see!!
Re: WEEK 1: PORTSMOUTH @ VALLEY
Both teams putting up huge numbers on the scoreboard, but watching it was hard. No defense between the two honestly. Portsmouth will be lucky to go 5-5 with a defense like tonight. Valley will tighten it up, Woldford kid came to play. Great effort by both. First game of the year is always a bit rough. Good luck the rest of the year.

FIDO ...looks real good on slo-mo replay...too.....lol
Re: WEEK 1: PORTSMOUTH @ VALLEY
Great game to watch. Both teams played hard, neither one really played any defense though lol. Valley had some trouble with the speed and big play ability of Portsmouth. Portsmouth well to be honest they just don't know how to tackle. Arm tackles won't work, need to learn to wrap up. Dickerson dropped a for sure touchdown. A botched pat & a missed pat and Valley wins by 1. Tough loss for the Trojans. The Trojans have the offense to play with anyone imo, but they must learn how to wrap up, should have been taught in peewee. Sucks to lose, but I'm just glad football is back. Tough game next week at West, the 2nd of 4 straight road games. Gotta work on how to tackle this week in practice. Good luck to Valley the rest of the season.

Valley has more speed than I thought they would, and they'll not see speed and quickness like they saw tonight the rest of the year.
Like I said earlier, the defense will shape up, I know Coach will be on that, and I liked what I saw on offense. Would be nice to see #50 get back in the lineup.

yeah this is the fastest valley team i have seen in awhile. valley had problems when they was out of position on the option. one good thing is valley will not face another team with that kind of athletes unless they make the playoffs.
Re: WEEK 1: PORTSMOUTH @ VALLEY
Neither team played defense tonight!!! And honestly even though valley won the game I'm not convinced that valley is a better team than Portsmouth! Both teams were sloppy. Good luck to both teams next week and congrats on the win valley!!

Scoreboard says that they were the better team tonight and that is all that matters. Your opinion doesn't.BurgGrad_06 wrote:Neither team played defense tonight!!! Re: WEEK 1: PORTSMOUTH @ VALLEY
I predicted high-scoring game, but obviously wrong team. Great win for the Indians and the SOC 2!!! Looks like they will probably once again play like the defending champs until proven otherwise. As for the Trojans, still heading in right direction, but a team can only rely on so much individual playmaking ability. I will say it, until I'm blue in the face... when Portsmouth gets better at the line of scrimmage and plays with more discipline on defense, then they will be the Trojans of old. Again though, they are headed on right direction. Good luck to both teams rest of season.
Re: WEEK 1: PORTSMOUTH @ VALLEY
Valley plays 2 seniors total... if you are going to get them it probably better be this year... next year they will be all seniors
That being said my biggest concern for Valley was the poor pass defense. The option plays are something that likely won't happen again because no one else will have the speed and moves Portsmouth does. Really impressed with the ability to control the clock... think valley had the ball for about 11 minutes in the fourth quarter.
Portsmouth defensive scheme is very lacking. The tackling was poor, but it seemed like a scheme problem more than anything. They typically only had 1 person trying to make the tackle instead of the 5-6 Valley had around the ball most of the night. I am pretty sure Portsmouth started in a 3-3-5 defense and that just doesn't work in high school, no matter how many athletes you have. Portsmouth played the whole night with 3 down lineman on defense and valley averaged 10 yards a carry, to me that clearly indicates a scheme problem more than individual failures

Re: WEEK 1: PORTSMOUTH @ VALLEY
Not questioning the team speed of Valley, #24 has some wheels. Can't believe that kid is a tight end. That being said there's no doubt Portsmouth is a faster team. Speed does not win games as we all seen. When you have kids arm tackling & going for the strip, no they aren't going to catch the Valley players because they're on the ground from missed tackles or out of position. Several times Portsmouth had shut a play down in the back field only for Valley kids to run right through them. Bad defense all around. Is just week 1 though.HItops wrote:portsmouth_trojan59 wrote:Great game to watch. Both teams played hard, neither one really played any defense though lol. Great teams find a way to keep on winning! That Loop kid is a beast of a runner!
Re: WEEK 1: PORTSMOUTH @ VALLEY
Congrats to Valley for a great home win!
NOW, This is going to sound like a broken record BUT, It is too late to work on tackling week 2. The Trojans have a lot of work to do, and its going to start in the off season in the weight room, Turnovers, drop passes, missed blocks and the worst tackling Ive seen well, since last season. Very disappointed in what I saw. Great athletes, lots of speed and just no cohesiveness what so ever. The play of the game, the one that turned it all around was in the 3rd quarter, Valley threw a middle screen, Portsmouth had an open field tackle to make it a tough third and long, Ole, off to the races, same stuff different Friday

Re: WEEK 1: PORTSMOUTH @ VALLEY
Valley may not see those kind of athletes the rest of the year, but I guarantee you that Valley will face football players. Players that can actually wrap up and tackle and not drop passes when the closest defender is 15 yards away.izladoom wrote:HItops wrote:valportsmouth_trojan59 wrote:Great game to watch. There must have been 5-6 big runs for Valley where Portsmouth had 3-4 defenders there to make the tackle but the tackling was horrendous. 2 of those were TD runs.
Portsmouth has a lot of speed and athleticism, but they are not football players. Big difference. From the game I saw last night, Valley will struggle against teams that have solid fundamentals.
Valley fans will say that their running game was awesome last night, everyone else will say that Portsmouth tackling was terrible.
Regardless, a win is a win and the first week always looks a little rough.
Good luck to both teams on an injury free season.
