Re: Conditioning ??
I don't think it really ever stops. Most schools lift and condition during June, voluntary of course.

Re: Conditioning ??
Most schools are getting ready for mini camps. Most kids should have been in the weight room and on the track all summer.
I wouldn't say conditioning is year round because most schools in SE Ohio are small and most kids play multiple sports.
7on 7's have started and I can't think of any school that doesn't at least participate in a couple.

Conditioning: My cousin has been going to supervised conditioning since the beginning of June. He's only a freshmen but said many upper classmen has been in attendance. His Gramps has been driving him to conditioning every morning. Seen him today, bulked up looking little fellow for as young as he is. I'll have someone to watch that's family again on Friday nights here soon. GOOOOOOO CHIEFS!!!!!!!

your allowed 10 football summer days. You can lift as many days as you want. you can condition as many days as you like. But you have 10 days of football. so you could do 7 on 7's 10 times. you could have 10 lineman challenges. but that would lead you zero days out of 10 as practice. after the 1st day of official practice you have to condition 3 days without pads and then one day in just shoulder pads and helmets and one day in full gear so. you really cannot have a contact practice until. so this year august 6th is first day you can have full contact practice and you must not practice on on the 1st 3 Sundays in august. i really think that is why tackling is so bad now you have about 5 days of contact before you have scrimmage and only about 2 weeks before you start game week schedules. and once the season begins teams really don't hit a lot in practice anymore at least not full speed.

Will all due respect, I think that by the time these boys make it to the varsity level, they should already be pretty good at the fundamentals.
Re: Conditioning / Two a days ??
It's not as much about fundamentals as it is about getting your body conditioned to contact. Anyone who has watched any football the last decade or so has seen the lack of good tackling in the first few weeks of the season.
Re: Conditioning / Two a days ??
Grad, I somewhat agree with you and your assessment on the very basics! but I also have witness poor tackling skills also believe or not even how to get into a good football stance with your butt being low! Back in the late 60's and early 70's we started weights Jan 2nd and continued till 3 a days started . Starting around the end of May we did cardio training, lifted weights and finished off each session with a 30 min. swim. At that time we were allowed to start each session with our pregame basic warm up!GalliaGrad78 wrote:Will all due respect, I think that by the time these boys make it to the varsity level, they should already be pretty good at the fundamentals.

I Don't think it hurts fundamentals so much. What it hurts is game readiness. There is very little full contact full speed practice anymore. So when things happen at game speed a lot of kids left out of good positions to make good plays leading to a lot of arm tackles and reaches where as if a kid was more ready to be at full speed and used to the other player coming full speed he would be in better position. But i could be wrong just my opinion.

Fundamentals have to be driven home at every level. Form tackeling drills, receiver footwork drills, and all the o- line/d-line drills happen all the time at every level. Even at the most elite level the NFL. That is what drills work fundamentals. You have to think there a lit of kids who don't go out for football until HS. Every year there are kids who are on rosters who have never played. Also the game is constantly changing which means fundamentals has to change and be taught different.GalliaGrad78 wrote:Will all due respect, I think that by the time these boys make it to the varsity level, they should already be pretty good at the fundamentals.
