Northwest Mohawk Football 2014

Post by Kenraken Ahta »

1.) Southeastern - Home
2.) Rock Hill - Home
3.) Huntington Ross - Away
4.) Minford - Home
5.) Symmes Valley - Away
6.) Notre Dame - Home
7.) Green - Home
8.) East - Away
9.) Oak Hill - Away
10.) River Valley- Home

If this is accurate (had to combine MaxPreps & OHSAA to get this schedule) then it looks like a good schedule for Northwest's first year in the SOC-1.

OHSAA showing Brooks Fry as Head Coach? MaxPreps showing Scott Thompson as head Coach?

No idea what Northwest has for talent or returning players.

Is a .500 season attainable?

One would think if this program can not compete in the next few years at this level in the SOC-I, the ax may very well fall on Northwest Football.

If everything falls into place correctly, I could see 5-5.

Huntington, and Green should be wins.

River Valley, Notre Dame, Southeastern, and Rock Hill could go either way

East returns a lot, Minford will be too good, as will Oak hill and Symmes Valley.

5-5 would be a step in the right direction. If Northwest can get some steam, I think they will get to the top of the league on sheer numbers alone. Not sure if anything is sustainable there...that district is something else.

I think there are so many "unknowns" with coaching staff, returning players, depth and talent? Past history with this program is one of little offense and little defense. One thing is for sure... there is no where to go but up!

LOL! Now that's a safe prediction! Fact is, there is really no defending any "positive comments" concerning Northwest Football. Imagine being the head coach at Northwest (whomever it may be)? "Well, we're gonna try to get better"? I mean that's about all you could say, right? I mean, "gonna try" is about as positive you can get. So many coaches (and some really good ones) have tried and failed to turn things around on the grid iron in McDermott! So here we go, down to SOC-Division One. Failure here is the beginning of the end. Can it get turned around? Well yes, but the world could end in the next ten minutes but probably won't. It is now 3:00pm eastern standard time..................wait for it...............

The Hawks were in a shootout with Green last year, saw some promising signs on offense, but the defense lacked the stops to win the game.

Northwest had a really nice group of 8th graders last season. If they continue to play football and stay at Northwest the team will be competitive. You got to have talent and that groups got it. And it wasn't just two or three kids it was several. Here's wishing the Mohawks the best of luck and success!

They can have all the talent in the world but until the school board steps back and lets a coach actually coach nothing will ever change. Not even going down to SOC 1 will change what neds to be changed out there.

Exactly. When your record against the SOC 2 is a woeful 2-57 since 2001 and 10-27 against SOC 1 competition isn't exactly great, either. However, they'll compete better against the SOC 1. I guess finishing third (at best most years) is better than finishing last nearly every year in the SOC 2. The football culture needs to change at Northwest, not the conference.

What do they do in off season? They need to ramp up the conditioning in a big way or never compete. JMO

They could be the best conditioned team in the area and it still wouldnt matter. When the school board members are dictating who the starters are you will have problems.

Northwest Football has a once in a lifetime opportunity to become a contender. The SOC gods have smiled on the program and moved them to the SOC-I. Now it is up to the powers that be in the administration to choose a good man to head up the program and allow him to choose his assistants and let him COACH! Best players play, PERIOD! This years goal: Finish with a 6-4 record and third in the conference! PR work. Stop the bleeding! From the elementary to the middle school. Parents and kids have got to be convinced that the program is going to become a contender and the best players will play! DO NOT transfer to another school! The three big "W s" and the big "V" are no longer on the schedule!! Let me say that again! No more embarrassing drubbings from Wheelersburg, West, Waverly and Valley! Now you have a schedule that you can look at and say "Hey, we can do this"! If Northwest football can not win (or share) the SOC-I title in the next four years, it is time to drop football It is time to put up or pack it in. Best of luck to the Northwest football players, the Northwest coaching staff, the Northwest administration and the Northwest community, it will take all of you working together to become a champion.

This is a very well stated post! Now you just need the rest of the community to put some pressure on the board.

Didn't West have this problem last year? Your correct nothing good can come from that type situation.

I agree with Captain Awesome. Isnt this exactly what the staff at West had to contend with last year?

What I heard they made changes and the administrative people were upset. I am glad my friend did not get a job now at West after seeing how they handled the hiring of their new coach and staff.

How do you figure that could be the problem. With as many coaches that they had on the field there was room for anyone else's input.

The coaches last year at West were all working their behinds off for our kids. Go tell that to half the teams out there. The truth make you mad? Captain awesome and LSuperstar are right. The distractions were huge and it wasn't fair to the senior class or the team or the coaches.
