WK1 Ironton @ Wheelersburg AUG 29
Re: WK1 Ironton @ Wheelersburg AUG 29
Fairland is known to look bad in scrimmages. Minford made Fairland look like a jv team in a scrimmage last year.
From my perspective Ironton looked much better but the margin over Fairland had a lot to do with Fairland playing terrible and missing players. Ironton was missing their stud lineman so that hurt. When Ironton used to take the field they looked dominate. This team has a couple excellent athletes, but nothing like the past. They also looked out of shape to me. Just an opinion. Either way you will be able to tell more after the CG scrimmage. At least they will have the size to compete with Ironton in the trenches.
I'm still taking wheelersburg by two touchdowns. Burg will be good this year. They will be better than Ironton up front and they have better coaching.

I'm sayin right now. I think my fighting tigers right the ship against the burg, and find a way to win a tough one in pirate country.

i do believe after watching the previews last saturday every existing team in the ovc just moved down 2 notchesYou're Tiger Bait wrote:I've been telling people about the addition of Portsmouth and ironton to the ovc , careful what you wish for. these programs are beasts that have been laying dormant for a while. but now you gotta saddle up on dem big horses. my wish is that the entire league meets up to these 2 programs, and somehow this can turn into a premiere league in the state.
Re: WK1 Ironton @ Wheelersburg AUG 29
Look I'm not trying to hurt anyone's feelings or anything but the ovc is not ready for teams like Portsmouth or Ironton... Even on a bad season they are typically better then most ovc teams. I know coalgrove and fairland both had decent seasons last year but they aren't consistent..tl895 wrote:i do believe after watching the previews last saturday every existing team in the ovc just moved down 2 notchesYou're Tiger Bait wrote:I've been telling people about the addition of Portsmouth and ironton to the ovc , careful what you wish for. these programs are beasts that have been laying dormant for a while. but now you gotta saddle up on dem big horses. my wish is that the entire league meets up to these 2 programs, and somehow this can turn into a premiere league in the state.

With the Jackson game playing on Saturday the first week I will be making my first trip ever to see a Burg and Ironton game and I am very excited to get the chance to watch two programs with the tradition they both have.

I believe this will be a great matchup. I have to give the edge to my tigers. I am confident burg will be ready. But I don't see them being anything like last yr. losing Miller time is a huge blow. Both were great athletes and the qb was one of the best if not the best to play at the burg To my knowledge Eaton would be the only other close. I'm sure there are others I don't know about. But losing a Miller type qb and thinkn ur not gonna b down some is like Ironton fans saying we gonna be just as good as last yr when Jermon Jackson graduated. Sometimes Those shoes are harder to fill than some fans realize. Just my opinion.
Btw Ironton 14-14 with the ball drives to the 30 and wins 17-14 with a field goal. Not sure bout that but actually being able to say that and we actually have a kicker that can kick that. It's a good feeling. If nothing else burg fans maybe we can use ur ringer that nailed the fg for wings for everyone at ironton. I'm pretty sure that thing wouldve been good from 70 lol. The look on that ladies face from bw3 when it split the uprights "priceless "

Im sure the tigers are much better than last year but i don't see them beating the Pirate this year, nor do i see the Pirates winning by more than a td or two. This game should be a great one as usual.
Re: WK1 Ironton @ Wheelersburg AUG 29
Ironton looked like the old Ironton of Lutz. Power running then throw the long pass down field to the wide receiver every now and then. Even the QB still wears number 8 as they have for the past 100 years.

Re: WK1 Ironton @ Wheelersburg AUG 29
well they have had a few good number 9's and number 7's in that time too. i agree, i dont see another game like last year either. one only has to look at the history to see that blowouts in this series doesnt happen. i missed the preview, but was very encouraged to hear that ironton took it to fairland like that did. i saw fairland 2x last year and they were a very very good team last year. not sure how much they lost from last year to this year but i do know they have a new coach this year and every ironton fan will tell you that could be a huge difference. looking at irontons two deep for offense and defense they seem to have very good size and depth. looks like about 14 kids deep as starters and another 7-8 that could see significant playing time. i hope this year is a bounce back year for ironton and their coaching staff to build excitement and confidence among the student body to continue to get kids out and get their #'s up. i will admit looking at the roster and the perception of how well they play in the preview they could be a lot better than i was giving them credit for about 4 weeks ago. i still like the pirates in this one. i agree replacing miller is going to be tough. however i think they have the kid to do it with in may. i think burg is going to be a lot more physical this year up front and will be able to match the tigers in the trenches and i think what burg has coming back at the reciever postions and in the backfield is going to suprise some people. hopefully we get to watch both teams make a deep playoff run.

Re: WK1 Ironton @ Wheelersburg AUG 29
it's truly hard to tell anything by scrimmage games. but it appears we have the horse this year. need good solid line blocking, way more consistent tackling. and lastly more consistent coaching. I look for our running game to come back into prominence, and it sounds like we have an awesome qb to burn you if you load the box up.
but the game last year was like none I'd ever seen before in this series.
the burg was far superior to the tigers. the tigers looked very unprepared, but typically these are knock down drag out battles. I look for that to become the case this year.

Burg's O-line is the biggest they have had since the 2009 and 2010 seasons, but I think this group is stronger and move better. Staying with the spread formation with more running makes it difficult for the defense. One good block allows a 5-10 yrd gain and if the defense overplays the run, a receiver is going to be open. Burg will play more of a posession offense and probably won't score as many points this year, but could win as many games. Burg 28-12

Tiger Bait saw where you posted on Athens page Good luck to Ironton your new turf field looks great
I also wish Athens and Ironton were playing this year. Will Ironton make a playoff run this year?

This one should come down to the end. I don't believe it will be another blowout like last year Ironton seems to be better than last year and I heard Burg's line is strong I look for a traditional Ironton/Burg old fashion slobber knocker.
