Not 100% positive, but am pretty sure that Northwest will now only be offering 1 year contracts... Havent heard if the current coach has been replaced or if they've voted yet.
Re: Coaching Openings?
I heard at work last week that NW was hiring a coach from the SOC who has been very successful at other programs and had been involved in travel ball for years. I told the guy I work with who has a daughter at NW if true it would be a homerun hire for NW.softball24_7 wrote:Not 100% positive, but am pretty sure that Northwest will now only be offering 1 year contracts... Whoever they hire in there, I hope they also work with our JR High program. We totally revamped the jr high program this year, and it would have been nice to have had some interaction between the HS coach and these kids. And, if what you are saying is true (as far as TB experience), that will be great.

I would guess the two assistants
Re: Coaching Openings?
Right now A lot of the SVC softball coaching positions are listed as
"Athletic Vacancy"
1 year contracts is all they get, the head coach
must reapply each year.

Re: Coaching Openings?
At Zane Trace and most schools, the coach has to re-apply for the position every year.
They post it within the school district to teachers first.
If nobody is qualified enough or nobody within wants the job, the school district posts it outside.

Hate to hear that.
John done a nice job at Trace,
In the past three seasons the lady Pioneers have:
1 SVC title
2 runner ups
3 sectional title
1 district title
1 regional final appearance
In the season prior Trace knocked League champs Adena out of the Golden ball and the season before that the Bennett lead Pioneers knocked my beloved lady Sherman's out of a share of the SVC title. His daughter Kristen had the game winning RBI.
(That SVC title wound healed but the scar still remains)
John leaves the cupboard far from bare in Kinnikinick and whomever replaces him will have lofty expectations bestowed upon them to be instantly successful in one of the toughest leagues and fan bases around.
So Fullcount who is on the short list for Trace?
Will they go in house?
A 180 loyalist, or will the ZT Brass make a power play for one of the established area coaches?
You do have two former Westfall coaches now heading up ZT varsity programs could the spring bring three?
Here is a list off the top of my head:
Bill Fetters - was successful the first time around.
Jeff Bloomfield - has played a huge roll behind the scenes in ZT softball for years.
Randy Malone - former UHS assistant with ties to ZT
Allison Cox - former ZT standout player and former ZT assistant
A solid list of candidates
Anybody else?

Re: Coaching Openings?
I would think any of them would make a good choice. I asked around today and none of the people you listed have applied. Only one person has applied and I don't think I am entitled to tell who it is. This person is a current coach at another school.

Oh Fullcount why you gotta lead me in like that.......
I agree the name should not be dropped
but can you answer two of these questions
for me as to who has applied?
* Did they coach in the SVC this year
* Was they a head coach or assistant
* Was one of the school colors Red
* Was one of the school colors Blue
* Over or under 250lbs

' I am sure it will or already is out. But I will answer two questions. No on SVC and yes is a Head coach. The other questions are too funny.

Re: Coaching Openings?
Kunz will do well...his last 10 years he's coached pretty much the same core of kids who he knew them greatly but they also knew how he worked. Don's best asset might be how well he knows area players and their tendencies. His transition to the SVC could be immediate as he likely already knows 75% of the league players. The Zane Trace kids and parents will have some adjusting to do. He's not a typical coach and being ready to do what you are asked to do is the #1 thing. If he trusts you can do it, he'll have you do it....and he may trust the player's ability before the player or even the parents believes they can. He knows the rules and how to use players. He puts ridiculous amounts of thought into his decisions and it's hard for many to understand many of his decisions and moves throughout each game...but I promise you he's put 10X more thought into than anyone disagreeing with him. Have a little patience folks and be supportive. Good Luck to the Zane Trace program....and good luck Don.
