what I heard is that Mccarly and Charla Evans were not good friends at all. but this stems from his time as Jr High coach at RV and he thought he was above that job, he never even attended the banquet at the end of the season to acknowledge his players, just blew it off. the guy has personality issues and the board will not even consider him.BuckeyeNut10 wrote:McCarly should have probably been given this job. Does anyone know why he was not offered? He would have put in the time and would have been looking to stay at RV for an extended period of time. There must be some deep reason that the board doesn't want him to run the program.
I'm only going off what I have read on this site, but what other school hires a rinky dink coach to be the Varsity coach? I'm still trying to wrap my head around that. If this thread is true, RV has hired a guy with no real experience. Then hired more guys for his staff that also has no experience. I see that the asst. coaches are 19-21 years old....that's another thing that is unconventional. It'll be interesting to see their style of play and the discipline of the team.
This whole thing just seems a little odd. How many people applied for this job? Do people just view this as a horrible job?

I didn't have to make anything up just didn't need to say anything but bevo pretty much hit the nail dead center people know buckeyenut10 people know and people never forget its life. RV just needs to focus on what they have and where their at whats done is done support who u have and what u have and do the best u can!
Re: Ryan McCarly new River Valley Coach?
I'd say the best they can do is about 2-21. I'm not sure who they can beat.

Yes I agree will b very difficult squeezing a win out 0-23 is very realistic but going 0-23 is like going 23-0 usually the odds are stacked against u but with their schedule and changes made over the summer its definitely going to b an uphill battle. Who knows this may work it may b the change they have been looking for but anything worth having takes time to build something worth having but I don't think any coach gets much time anymore!

Re: Ryan McCarly new River Valley Coach?
Just to clear things a little.....first of all....my name is spelled McCARLEY.......I applied for the varsity job when Gene resigned and this past time........After asking Jeff and Chad, they told me I was going to be the new coach......for me ....this was a dream come true.....after receiving a few calls from parents with concerns, the super decided to remove my name from the boards agenda....Period!!
I also want to clear another thing up.....the 8th grade banquet I did not blow off.......I was called at 4pm on the day of the banquet and was told the banquet was that night.......at that time i was in Dayton installing trim.....no possible way to make it.....please know that I coached 21 eighth graders that year, wasnt allowed to cut.....and managed to beat every team in the OVC at least once.......
Now, im over it!! ....I am now a parent of a freshman at RVHS......I hope that my opinion will be weighted the same as some of the parents making the decisions now.....although the taste is very bitter, I can understand the new supers position on this matter.....not being a local, he must take the advise of others to help him make decisions, and there is always going to be people out there that are not fans of every coach......Ive always put my community first, I have coached since i was 16yrs old, all the teams I have coached were from Gallia county, and my loyalties still reside here. It is time to start a new thread that is titled "Jeremy Peck, RV's new bball coach".......I have been building the program in my mind for over 10 yrs....and being told that your life-long dream was going to become a reality, then having it pulled away from you because a few parents don't like you personally......it hurt and it hurts the community more.....the players are penalized.....all I ever wanted to do, was to give the community something to be proud of........good luck to Jeremy Peck and his staff.......
side note: Jeremy Peck was the first person i asked to help me when i got the job......i asked him to do 9th grade on a limited schedule, he was worried about missing his kids games.......
GO RV!!!!........Go Jarret McCarley!!!.....Hope you have a great season son.....and I love ya!!!

Great post, Ryan!
I know you're trying to take the high road and put this in your rear view mirror, but if it means anything to you I think you should have been handed the keys to the program. I think you're the guy for the job and the person who could bring out the best in the kids. You may or may not have had some ups and downs....who hasn't? People need to move on from whatever they have against you and allow you to have your chance. I'm hoping it comes soon....hopefully you get to coach your son as the RV Varsity basketball coach.

Re: Ryan McCarly new River Valley Coach?
If you're kid is any good at any sport, don't send them to RV, with the exception of wrestling. It's truly bad and will not get better, probably ever. Ryan, the reason parents don't like you is probably because you would be too honest to their kids. Period. Their are plenty of other places that would love for you to coach on their staffs. I say seek them out. The fact that you had to keep over 20 kids and not able to cut tells the story. I'm an alum and I live in the district, but no way I'm sending my kids there. Although, the new super may be influential on turning around sports programs . However at this state, no way I'll send my kids there, especially since my son excels at baseball. I won't even go into what a joke of a coach they've had the last three years there.
Re: Ryan McCarly new River Valley Coach?
Does anyone know if Mr . Jordan Hill is coaching and where?
Thanks and Good luck to the new Coach
