D2 SE District Tournament

Post by Ironman92 »

Only 2 teams get out of each sectional.

Sectional Teams

Jackson
Unioto
Waverly
Warren Local
Chillicothe
Gallia Academy
Athens
Vinton Co

Jackson is 6-1 vs these teams....but also played tight games versus Athens and Vinton Co

Jackson comes in at 13-4 and I think Unioto is 15-3

Waverly/Warren Local.....both very good as well.

Unioto might be more deserving of the #1 but it will maybe be up to who everyone thinks they have a better chance beating. Should be a very interesting seed meeting.

Other Sectional

Circleville
Sheridan
Miami Trace
Washington CH
Logan Elm
Fairfield Union
Greenfield
Hillsboro

I won't pretend to know a ton about these teams. Sheridan, Circleville and Logan Elm seem to always be very competitive.

Sure....

For example Jackson and Unioto both had 3 1st place votes with 2 coaches yet to vote their top seed. Both coaches chose Unioto giving Unioto the #1 seed over Jackson by a 5-3 vote.

For the #2 seed everyone chose Jackson.

For the #3 seed 6 coaches went with Warren and 2 went with Chillicothe.

For the #4 seed 4 coaches chose Chillicothe, 3 Waverly and 1 Gallia Academy

Fishy as always because Waverly had beaten Chillicothe by mercy rule but plays in the killer SOC and Chillicothe's league isn't nearly as good.

Waverly always gets toasted a bit at this drawing. Jackson voted them #4 but I won't say who the others voted.

You could easily say that Unioto, Chillicothe and Waverly are at a disadvantage because they solely represent their leagues, whereas the TVC has 2 reps and the SEOAL has 3. BTW, Waverly did not mercy rule Chillicothe, it was 1-1 going into the 5th inning at Waverly and the final score was 8-1. Convincing yes? but not a mercy rule.

Thanks....I was misinformed by 2 coaches.

You could say that everyone is out for pretty much just themselves.

In the 4 times I've been in that room Waverly IMO is always a seed or 2 away from where I think they are and it always seems to cost them a home game.

Minford twice
Wheelersburg twice
Valley twice
Jackson
Chillicothe
Gallia Academy

....pretty tough schedule and they had starters out that will be there.

Should be great matchups in nearly every game of this sectional. Good Luck to everyone.

Also....one of the SEOAL schools voted for Unioto over Jackson and four of Unioto's #1 votes came from teams that have been SEOAL members.

Definitely should be some very good games and many of these teams are very familiar with one another making the games even more of a chess match.

I guess that's the million dollar conundrum; do coaches try to work the best angle for their team or are they there to be "fair" to other teams at possibly the expense of themselves? Truly a fascinating question.

That room isn't too bad.....some of them get pretty shady I'd guess.

of course the D2 SE could come out of the caves and join the rest of voting America in the 21st century. D1 (which I've done twice) has an online seeding process by which a coach logs in on the Friday beforehand and seeds all 42 (or so) on a ballot. The ballots are not private and will eventually be seen on Sunday at the meeting. When all the coaches get to the meeting on that Sunday, they are handed a list of the seeds 1-42 already seeded. A large bracket with 42 spaces is put on a screen and the team with the 1st overall seed gets to pick which slot they want on the board. It's not a perfect system by any means, nor does it prevent coaches from ganging up but at least they have to make phone calls to do it instead of being in a room together. Even if they try to vote another team down or up ahead of time, they have no clue ahead of time what position that team (or their team) will end up and their votes are not anonymous.

Yeah....would be fairer

Best teams will advance and their just isn't that much of a difference from top to bottom

Online or not coaches will still make contact with coaches to see where they want to be, at least the top teams will. It will still involve politics.

I'm contemplating coming to the Warren at Jackson game Saturday and would like to confirm the time(11am?) and location. Do the Ironladies play at a new field at the new high school or is it at W Main and N High streets?

I believe Warren charges $6 per entry....it's $5 at Jackson.

Doesn't matter as mhs95 loves high school sports and would never cry about a dollar or two.

Waverly is no slouch....every year their league gives them a tough schedule and every year they get seeded a touch low in the sectional. Waverly beating by one in the sectional doesn't surprise me.
