To the two umps that did the Notre dame - Chillicothe game

Post by ManitouDan »

From the rule book . Rule 6 Section 2 article 6 -- when the ball slips from the pitchers hand in the forward or backward motion it's a PITCH .
EFFECT -- a ball is awarded to the batter and ball is live and runners
may advance .

So to the BOTH the home plate blue and the field ump who both didn't know the rules of game -- shame on you .

Shocking that after the Chillicothe pitcher had a ball slip out of her hand during her windmill and the ball went backwards that the home plate blue refused to reward a ball to the batter . And the field ump refused to help out the guy that blew the call -- so the home blue makes up his own rule on the fly " ball must go forward to be considered a pitch.
That's not exactly an obscure rule . Nor different from association to association . C'mon blue just know the rules.

… Where was the "rule book" ??? if there is any question as to a rule - consult the book … should have been an easy fix imo … BUT apparently not so …

I've seen a lot of the same thing this year too with umpires not knowing the rules or making up their own. Then refusing to consult the book. I sat down and red the entire book from to back in and evening. Im not an Ump, you would think someone that its their job to know these things would do the same.

Also state Umps decision is final and absolute, now they may have been wrong but I'm sure they were using that as an end result, lol

Only exception is if the ball ended up out of play then it's a ball and not an awarded ball/illegal pitch. I've got one better, I've seen two clowns from the Jackson chapter who awarded a "do over". Find that in the rule book!

We were in the league championship deciding game and the base umpire (with no one on base) was standing 35 feet off the RF line almost touching the second baseman and in the line of view of our RF player.?????? Said his feet were hurting him from doing both games on the bases. And that line was being hit at just about every inning of the DH.

Why would they hire umps for the DH that aren't going to alternate behind the plate, especially with the same pitchers probably going to pitch in both games?

And also in this 2nd game the base umpire called a runner safe on a tag play at 3rd that he was right there to see(I agreed with safe - didn't get the tag down even though the throw beat the runner who ran thru the stop sign). The home plate umpire over-ruled and the final call was out.

I have (2) better in the same game....

1) Batter attempts a bunt, misses ball with no pull back, balls hits her in the arm....umpires awarded her the base
2) Slapper attempts slap, ball hits her on top of the right foot, batter heads to first on HBP, homplate ump calls her back and says he called it a strike

Above all, I can say the average age of the umpires I have seen this season is probably 60-65. Where are the younger umpires that may be a little sharper?

Had similar incident last night as your #1 only the hitter bunted the ball into her own leg and was awarded base due to HBP. AND Blue obviously didn't know what "Out of Box" means because there were 3 incidents where the batter was out of the box on contact, 2 in front of the plate and 1 down the first base line. I guess because they were all foul balls he thought a strike equals an out. LOL (LOL is for you I92)

Sounds like our umps lately, last night called a girl safe for sliding into the glove, said the glove was blocking the base, then in the next breath, said he seen through the dust and the defensive player, her fingertips touched the base, 2 hits later the tag, hit the girls helmet after the slide and her hips was on base and called her out. wow where are these guys coming from.
Even had one up north last week that said the coach didn't have a reason to sub a player and would not allow it.. I think his credentials needs looked into.
these were umps between 26-40 years of age

I would suggest more folks get certified and become umpires. I have umpire baseball and Softball, I know I have made mistakes, I have blown calls, and I have had days where I was moving a little slower. Anyone who has umpire for a few seasons have done exactly the same things.
Your paying People gas gas money (is what it amounts to) to do games. They get yelled at and abused, treated like dirt, yet people expect the best from them Everytime they step on the field.

Y'all wanna complain, then suit up and have at it!!!

Not knowing simple rules is unacceptable, regardless of the price of gas.

Most fans don't know the rules. add to gas price people having to leave work at 3 t0 3:30 in order to get to a game and get dressed there isn't a lot of people that can do that and might explain why more people aren't doing it.

Gopher: as far as the foot out of the box on contact. Rule 7.4.8: The batter hits the fair or foul while either foot is touching the ground COMPLETELY outside the lines of the batter's box or while touching the plate.
NOTE: A follow-through with the bat may carry one of the batter's feet entirely outside the box so it touches the ground as the ball is leaving the bat. It is customary for the umpire to ignore this if both feet were in legal position at the start of the swing and if it is not considered an attempt to circumvent the spirit of the rule.

I'm assuming with the umpire having to watch the ball come in for a strike or ball call would be hard enough let alone also watching if the foot was out of the box and if it was contact was made and it was only a follow through. I'd say that would be really tough. Plus normally after the first inning or two there is no lines left from batters, catchers coming and going and sliding into home would add to that difficulty.

Yea all those umps are horrible. I think they should let the fans call the games. At least the fans know all the rules.

Sox did the batter make an attempt or just hold the bat there. If she just held the bat there this is the correct call, but if she made an attempt at the ball then it should have been a strike and a dead ball. No runners can advance.
