Logan Elm vs. Watterson  D2 regional semifinal
Re: Logan Elm vs. Watterson — D2 regional semifinal
This game is everything it is supposed to be. 43-40 Watterson after 3. Watterson definite being more aggressive. LE needs to play tough the last 8 minutes.
Re: Logan Elm vs. Watterson — D2 regional semifinal
Watterson hitting everything and LE has gone cold. 53-43 Watterson with 4:09 left.
Re: Logan Elm vs. Watterson — D2 regional semifinal
1:20 left 59-45. Game over, LE just got out hustled in the second half. Great season boys!! Dillon Young is one of the best players I have seen play this year.
Re: Logan Elm vs. Watterson — D2 regional semifinal
Or was it LE out hustled Wat in the first half, then Wat equaled the LE hustle in the 2nd half and superior talent prevailed?skidaddy wrote:1:20 left 59-45. Game over, LE just got out hustled in the second half. Great season boys!! Dillon Young is one of the best players I have seen play this year.

I think LE had the team to win. Went cold over a 5-6 minute time frame and Watterson hit almost every shot. Kind of let the wind out of the sails once they got down by 10 and never recovered. Watterson was definitely physically bigger.

Great season LE....was wondering is Dillon Young is getting any looks at any colleges for basketball? I haven't heard anything. I know he is sort of small, but the kid can play!

He should, he is definitely a team player and can shoot the ball.

Great season LE. Just ran out of gas. Watterson started hitting outside shots in the 4th. The big kid carried them the first 3 quarters
Re: Logan Elm vs. Watterson — D2 regional semifinal
Nice to see some Warren and Athens shirts, I know LE appreciates the support from our district brethren. LE gave it a great run for three quarters, but Watterson just had too much and LE ran out of gas there. Great season for LE, and the seniors Dillon Young, Logan Thompson, Trent Congrove, Casey Tyler, Waylon Artrip and Cory Heeter.

I'm going to echo the last few posters here... great season LE!
Never like to lose, but it's good to see these kids come out fighting knowing that they belong in this situation year in and year out. At some point though, you have to find a way to get by when teams exploit your weakness and unfortunately, my Braves couldn't overcome. Too much size and experience being the factors IMO in what helped Watterson prevail. I certainly believe that the fatigue had a lot to do with the shots not falling in 4th, everything was short. Plus, if a few of those fall, Watterson isn't able to build a comfortable lead and it keeps the Braves esteem high.
I need to make a comment on the seniors. What a great group of kids to watch for 4 years! Every kid gave it their all for the name on their uniform LOGAN ELM and they have kept the bar raised high for years to come.
I don't like to toot kids horns on individual performances, but Dillon Young showed me why I still believe he is the most valuable asset to his team opposed to any other player in the district. In the 3 games the Braves played at the convo, there was a combination of at least 8 players to share the responsibility of guarding him and nobody could stop him whether it was shooting, dribbling, or passing. I believe French was certainly well deserving of winning the award, but after watching both players in district play, it was pretty darn close.
Lastly, (pfloyd will agree with this) kudos to Doug Stiverson and his staff. To me, he is one of the (if not the best) coaches in SE Ohio and you pair Jeff Holbert in there.... WHEW their ability to make adjustments on the fly is just astonishing to watch. Hopefully they are around for a long time to come!

Re: Logan Elm vs. Watterson — D2 regional semifinal
Watterson did a nice job of adjusting to what LE was doing and made it harder to get those inside shots in the second half. LE had to become more perimeter oriented, and didn't have the legs down the stretch as was pointed out in a previous post. Watterson made it a half-court game, executed its offense well and got it down into the post or took medium range jumpers. Watterson has an outstanding basketball team, and kudos to them on the win. Nice to see LE give a good account of themselves. Very good game to watch for 25 of the 32 minutes.

I don't get to see all the coaches in the SE District, but I'd stack Coach Stiverson as among the elite in the district.

Re: Logan Elm vs. Watterson — D2 regional semifinal
Congratulations to Logan Elm on an outstanding season. It took the defending D2 state champions to knock the Braves out of the tourney, and for 3 quarters LE matched the Eagles punch for punch. I strongly agree that Coach Stiverson is one of the best in the SE district, and he once again showed why as he took a team with no size into the regional.
Re: Logan Elm vs. Watterson — D2 regional semifinal
Stiverson and Maddox at Warren are playin chess, when their opposing coaches are playing checkers. Stiverson was able to overcome when his teams were overmatched talent wise. The best high school coaches do more with less.bman wrote:I don't get to see all the coaches in the SE District, but I'd stack Coach Stiverson as among the elite in the district.
Re: Logan Elm vs. Watterson — D2 regional semifinal
… bman that is an understatement … ALL other coaches in the SEO District should be measured against both Coach Stiverson and Coach Maddox - end of story … whatever you want to call them - tacticians, X's and O's guys, court side strategists BOTH are "coaches and teachers of the game" … BOTH have built "PROGRAMS" - many times this fact is liberally thrown around BUT true PROGRAMS that begin with the younger grades, connects into the middle school/jr high , on to the Freshman & JV teams are those that emphasize fundamentals for ALL players - not just the physically gifted - but ALL players … at each level kids fine tune consistent teaching of the fundamentals at both ends of the floor …WHEN the players with the talent/the fundamentals rise to the top and make the Varsity TEAM the fundamentals are engrained/ the fundamentals of the game are known by each and every player … at the Varsity level with both the Logan Elm and Warren Programs players are ready to be taught the "nuances" of the game … learn their positions, learn how to PLAY offense & defense … I would stress the point that the majority of schools NOT deemed a school where they have "programs" are trying to do BOTH teach the fundamentals of offense/defensive play WHILE introducing the true "game of basketball" … the PROGRAMS such as what Coaches Stiverson/Maddox have put together truly teach the game of basketball at the varsity level … the majority of coaches at the high school level NEVER get to teach the game of basketball because their players have not gone through a true program … the players are coached to win at all costs at the lower level (all levels below varsity in my book) the teaching of fundamentals are sacrificed for the "W" …bman wrote:I don't get to see all the coaches in the SE District, but I'd stack Coach Stiverson as among the elite in the district.
…parents of sons who grew up/learned the game of basketball in the LE/Warren PROGRAMS should have nothing but praise for the coaching staffs at both LE/Warren (and I am talking lower grades on to the varsity) … the players who go through these programs KNOW the game, the positions, the fundamentals these kids if they so choose get into teaching, get back into the game by coaching …look at Evan Blake for Logan Elm - I have watched his JV squad 5 times this year ,Coach Blake KNOWS the game, KNOWS how to coach/teach the game - he learned from one of THE BEST in Coach Stiverson AND ALL of the coaches in the program with Coach Stiverson) … Coach Blake WILL be a head coach down the road - mark it down … any school who is lucky enough to hire him on as their head man WILL HAVE the makings of - you got it - the beginnings of a COACH who WILL create a PRORAM from the bottom up (wonder how he likes the color purple? hmmm LOL ) …
