Re: Eastern (24-1) vs Newark Catholic (25-2)
Article from the Columbus Dispatch
PICKERINGTON — Newark Catholic girls basketball players quietly filed out of the locker room last night like carpenters knowing there was yet another two-by-four to nail up.
The Green Wave was all business as Jill Blacksten scored 25 points and Ashleigh Parkinson 20 in a 61-35 victory over Fairbanks in a Division IV regional semifinal at Pickerington North.
“We were pumped up for this game because our goal is the state tournament,†Blacksten said. “We know we have to come out for every game ready to play. We’ve been taking this one step at a time."
The next step is a rematch with top-ranked Reedsville Eastern (24-1) and all-state guard Jenna Burdette at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday for a spot in the state tournament.
In 2013, Newark Catholic led Eastern by a point before Burdette scored with 23.2 seconds left for a 57-56 victory in the regional championship game. The Green Wave (25-2) hasn’t played in the state tournament since 1987.
Coach Rob Smith said the team did not overlook Fairbanks (15-12), which was playing without injured second-team all-district forward Michaela Henderson. She averaged 18.5 points.
“We didn’t know all week that the girl wasn’t playing,†Smith said. “We ran our sets perfectly."
Smith didn’t dance around the subject of playing Eastern again.
“It’s the matchup everybody wants, No. 1 against No. 2,†he said of the state rankings ..... continue reading: http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories ... final.html

I know super trooper ... and I'm torn right now ... I may have to go to the Warren/Logan Elm boys game at the Convo ... If I end up at the Convo, don't think for a second I won't have Rick Ash and 92.1 in my ear.Super Trooper wrote:Probably one of the best girls games you will ever see

Good point.
Especially when it SHOULD BE Athens vs Warren ... lol
If I get stuck at the Convo - I will cross my fingers and hope Eastern wins ... then head to Columbus to watch em!

Last year Eastern won and I heard no crying about recruiting or playing a private school. If N.C. wins I hope to see the same class this time around. I really hope this is the case unlike the fans of another school from this area I like, but have lost most respect for as far as their fans goes, who post on here.

Let's go Eastern, get a big win for the TVC. Good luck from Wildcat Country.

There's an easy way to silence the complainers. Bring your roster and show where the girls have been enrolled since grade school.newarkcatholicfan wrote:Last year Eastern won and I heard no crying about recruiting or playing a private school. For the record I would like to see every roster at every school state that.
Open enrollment schools and private schools all should have to do this.

I believe Newark Catholic has one with 3 and two with two.
