Portsmouth West Football 2014
Re: Portsmouth West Football 2014
I have seen this article but I still think it was very poor timing to leave a team without a Coach. Well one thing it should give West a better chance to win.
Re: Portsmouth West Football 2014
Seems like they are happy with their choice. Good Luck to them. Except week 3 of course.
Just glad the Johnson's are here. Football can't get here soon enough.

It is official that Dan is on staff?
How is the offseason going? We have an extremely tough schedule (as we should), a couple miscues and we could be looking at another 4-6, 5-5 ish season. As mentioned before, the talent is there, we just need the practice.

Re: Portsmouth West Football 2014
I guess there are a couple things to be mindful of.
One would be to keep expectations low to start. I don't know what kind of student body composition west Portsmouth has, and how many of them are big on football, but I know for a D5 school (even back in the "old" six division model) LU had numbers going up into the 60's. And not just 40 kids with 20 kids that were on the border but listed on the roster anyways, but 60+ healthy, strong, conditioned and dedicated kids. Where LU is located, in Liberty Twp in north Fairfield County is agrarian area but very competitive households and kids. Very rugged group of kids that are big into football, wrestling, and baseball but are also very disciplined. Coach Johnson really benefited from the installation of good middle school programs in Baltimore. Something else that LU really had going for them is they were able to keep a lot of their stars and playmakers within the program, they didn't lose very many kids. Simply put, I don't think I've seen a program that was as big and mean and strong like they were since the old Amanda Clearcreek teams.
I'm not sure what tools PW has, but unless the cupboard isn't bare, I'd sit on my hands for a couple of years until you start calling for the coach's head.

Dan Johnson the old coach of LU? The article I read said he did not have the fire to coach anymore.sider wrote:It is official that Dan is on staff?

Once again I will say the timing of him leaving then joining another staff is very poor.

I would sure like to see them Big old “Wisconsin Style†W’s back on the helmets this year.
Re: Portsmouth West Football 2014
I think they went away from it because Wisconsin was putting pressure on schools not to use their W. There were several law suits over this issue.
