No surprise there, Symmes Valley not any better than South Gallia.

I figured it would be a dogfight. SG has descent talent and is comparable to SV. On paper it was an upset but on the court not so much. Congrats Rebels. I think this is SG's 3rd trip to the Convo in the past 4 years. Always exciting for the kids to get to play in a 13,000 seat arena.lightle04 wrote:Wow never seen that coming ! Congrats !

Congrats Rebels and Coach Howell on the Sectional Championship! Was a great win for the Rebels and very happy for the outcome of the game. Was a great game to watch.

DIV games should be
Played in a high school. 13,000 seats with at most 300 fans. No atmosphere

Well if 13,000 is to big for D4 then it is to big for D 2 and D3 as well because many times it's the D4 schools that bring the bigger crowds. I worked in the OU athletics department for several years and actually worked the tournaments . The small schools always brought the largest crowds with the exception of Cambridge who travelled a ton. The school that would shockingly have some of the smallest crowds was Athens. The D2 schools from Columbus brought very few fans as well.athens78 wrote:DIV games should be

Who cares if the arena is too big. It's a thrill and perhaps the only time the vast majority of these kids will play in a venue like The Convo. It's a goal they shoot for every year.

I'd have to disagree with both of you. Pretty sure you'll see more than 300 fans at the DIV games at the Convo. But I guarantee they won't be anywhere near the crowds you'll see at the DII and DIII gamesRebelCat wrote:Well if 13,000 is to big for D4 then it is to big for D 2 and D3 as well because many times it's the D4 schools that bring the bigger crowds. I guess you never worked the games when McClain, Eastern Brown, Logan Elm or North Adams were playing.RebelCat wrote:Well if 13,000 is to big for D4 then it is to big for D 2 and D3 as well because many times it's the D4 schools that bring the bigger crowds. Last year I believe ND had well over 300 people to watch at the convo. It was a great atmosphere for the players and spectators.

Depends on the teams. One year North Adams brought a crowd that was only topped by Cambridge. I remember we checked the presale and North Adams pre sold 1200 tickets. I looked up the population of Winchestor in Adams county and it was barely over a 1,000. I think every person who ever attended that school showed up. It was that impressive. I am betting Peebles will bring a huge crowd this year as well.Raiderball wrote:I'd have to disagree with both of you. Pretty sure you'll see more than 300 fans at the DIV games at the Convo. Ironton, Portsmouth and the OVC schools crowds were always a little disappointing. The SOC schools usually travelled well as did PVC schools. In particular Shennendoah HS travelled very well. I will never forget seeing grown men wearing blimps on their heads. I have not set through district and regional games like i did back then so perhaps things have changed. SG should have a nice crowd next Tuesday.
