… Chiefs WILL have to step up in the SEOAL to finish higher than 3rd …

SEOAL Projected PreSeason "finish"

1. Portsmouth
2. Warren
3. Logan
4. Gallia
5. Jackson

… these are the Pre Season Picks but look what happened with the December win by Portsmouth at Warren this past season - Warren was the heavy #1 pick with Portsmouth the #2 BUT that win on the road at Warren put Portsmouth in the drivers seat to not finish worse than a tie for first with Warren which is what played out … LOOK for Logan to be a "player" in the 2014-15 season as the Purple will get to see Portsmouth in game 2 of the season on a Wednesday night - long drive, during the week, Logan always playing the Trojans tough AT Logan ( however PHS has never lost to LHS since they entered the league 10 straight W's over the Chiefs) … Warren dismantled the Chiefs both games this past season - French/Patton/Drayer - GONE … opens the door for a possible LHS win in 2014-15 … Gallia? made the mistake of showing the bush-league side of their program with the incident at then end of the game & after the game vs LHS - Chiefs won't forget … Jackson? - hasn't been a threat since Dustin Ford went to the college ranks , the Ironmen were 0-fer 2013-14 … never mind …

… Coach Helber didn't get many "put this one in the win column" right now games in his non conference schedule … wow!!!

Unioto will be at least a 20/21 win team
Alexander lost only 1 senior … 15 win season
Sheridan … another 15+ win season coming
Marietta … 2nd year under Coach Duckworth … 13-15 win season
Vinton Co … a youngster loaded team in 2013-14 & 12 wins … 15/16 wins to come this season
Bloom Carroll is BC … 15 + wins a given
Teays Valley had 15 wins last year … looking for the same this campaign
St. Charles … 12/13 + win season for this coming year

… leaves Watkins, Amanda CC, Fairfield Union, Lancaster as the only sub 10 win teams on paper going into the 2014-15 season …

… the 2 midseason tourney's … I don't know who Logan will be playing in either the Rte 40 Classic or the Beasts of the Southeast … I DO KNOW that BOTH of these tournaments have earned the reputation of having quality competition with quality match ups … look for Logan to play teams in both venues that are projected 15+ win teams for next season …

Individual hoops instruction has begun as Coach Helber/Coach Landis begin working toward continuing the Purple progress into the 2014-15 season …

pfloyd: Nice breakdown of the SEOAL and other notes of interest........Logan has beaten the Trojans in SEOAL play before the 2009-2010 season(PHS started in 2006-2007, and went 0-3 vs. Logan), but since Coach Eugene Collins took over in 2009-2010, PHS has beaten the Chieftains 10 straight times.......and you're absolutely right........the Purple always plays us tough at LHS.........and I expect more of the same when we come to Logan early in the 2014-2015 season.

… Fisher has a clean break, back of his hand … should be ready for hoops season is the word - might be one of those breaks that can be wrapped and still play for football season as well - hopefully he doesn't go that route as Hoops is K. Fisher's "bread and butter" sport … don't want him to miss ANY of the basketball season for Logan … Coach Helber & Co should put a very good, competitive team on the court for 2014-15 … 6-9 Kevin Fisher as the anchor at 6-9 , a motivated Chance Cox 6-3+, PG Lane Little had a GREAT summer - named outstanding player at the Rio Grande College guard camp … Cole Barron is back this season … Isaiah Smith (6-4+) …Kory Henthorn has a year of experience under his belt, now a 6-5 … 240 lb sophomore … and my dark horse swingman for the Chiefs this year 6-4 Sam Evans … depth will be an issue for the Purple BUT I LIKE that first 6 …

Coach Helber shared that Logan will be playing Coal Grove at the Beast of the Southeast Tourney in Chesapeake Jan.10th followed by a game vs Morgan HS at the Route 40 Classic … both of these tournaments are two of the best mid season high school tournaments in Ohio …

Half way done with football already and round ball is just around the corner. I feel the Chiefs will have to win 13-16 game in order for the current program to survive!

I can't see us getting 13-16 wins, I can see 10, but that's with Fisher the whole season! I'm sure he won't miss more than a quarter of the season, but they'll struggle without his size down on the block!

If this season is a repeat of last, does Logan begin the search?

Coach Helber is a great guy! he's a great JV coach!

I have nothing against Coach Helber, it just may be time for a change.

I agree with you 1987! They'll definitely have to bring in someone from the outside though.

The two x-Logan players that are doing well as coaches are afraid to take the chance.

The 2 ex-players, they are incredible coaches! They won't take the chance because becoming the head boys basketball coach at Logan is like walking into a trap! It's a lose-lose situation, unfortunately.

We will need some one who is willing to accept a few lean years and will work with the youth coaches to develop and implement a solid program. Also must demand discipline and have the gut's to stand up for the program and his way!

Kevin Fisher 6-8, Isaiah Smith 6-4, Chance Cox 6-2, Cory Henthorn 6-5 , Lane Little 5-9, Sam Ellis 6-3 , Cole Barron 5-9 … might be the most talent Coach Helber & Co. have had on the hardwood in a long time … Portsmouth VISITS Logan EARLY in the season - with Sky Oliver having a football season ending injury a few weeks ago/ should be ready for hoops … Kyre Allison coming off of a summer injury (broken leg) … throw in that Logan has ALWAYS played the Trojans tough at LHS … let's just say that trojandave's PHS boys WILL NOT be taking the Purple lightly … Portsmouth's early season "W" over Warren AT Warren last season put the Trojans in the drivers seat with the Warriors chasing all season to get a tie for the SEOAL … PHS would like nothing better than to get "double" league championships this season as a member of both the SEOAL and the OVC … although the Trojan's aspirations for this season are with their eyes on the Show at the Schott in March … just typing about hoops gets me pumped LOL … let's tip it off !!! Zane Trace Tip Off Classic is just around the corner !!!

… I have high hopes for this years Edition of the Purple … not an easy schedule at all taking on the SVC's top team in Unioto on Dec 6th right out of the box! - again a good thing to catch the Shermans early in the season in Logan … a "W" vs UHS would set the tone for a good season for sure …
