FANS COMPLAINING ABOUT PLAYERS

Post by Lovetheroundball »

TONIGHT I WITNESSED ONE OF THE BEST BASKETBALL GAMES I HAVE SEEN IN A LONG TIME. VALLEY OVER MINFORD IN 2 OT FOR THE SOC CHAMPIONSHIP. THE GAME WOULD HAVE BEEN MUCH MORE ENJOYABLE THOUGH HAD I SAT ON THE VISITING SIDE BECAUSE OF SEVERAL VALLEY FANS LOUDLY COMPLAINING ABOUT THEIR OWN PLAYERS. THEY WOULD COMPLAIN ABOUT THESE FEW PLAYERS BY NAME. THESE PLAYERS ARE THE REASON WHY THEY HAVE WON 3 STRAIGHT SOC CHAMPIONSHIPS. WHY CANT FANS CHEER FOR AND ENCOURAGE THEIR PLAYERS RATHER THAN ALWAYS SEEING THE NEGATIVE AND BRINGING THEM DOWN. THIS TYPE OF FAN SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES AND DO EVERYONE A FAVOR AND STAY HOME IF THEY CANT KEEP THEIR MOUTHS SHUT AND QUIT COMPLAINING ABOUT YOUNG MEN THAT ARE GIVING 100%. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE HOW FURIOUS I WILL BE WHEN MY CHILDREN GET TO HIGH SCHOOL AND I HEAR SOMETHING NEGATIVE COMING FROM THEIR OWN SO CALLED FANS.

Sadly this is becoming much more of the norm nowadays and not just the Valley "fans"

Yes it was one of the best games I have ever seen. As a valley fan I realize we have prob the worst fan base. I felt bad the students was going down trying to get people to stand up and a fan told them to go back down to their side and leave them alone. It's like this at the football games too. But yes like they said it happens everywhere.

I believe that there are "bad apples" everywhere but am proud to be an Indian. believe that our fans travel as well as if not better than most communities and are VERY supportive of the young men. It IS frustrating to see turnovers and missed foul shots and we all know those affect the outcome of a game, but even when frustrated I want to believe that the boys KNOW that their fans are behind them.
No doubt the boys are more frustrated than anyone when they feel they made a mistake. I believe what makes this group of boys so special is that they have the heart to play 'through' off nights and can get the job done on the field AND the court. ROLL TRIBE!

Ironton fans are as fair weather as any I've ever seen. Last season you had to be at games an hour early now you could walk in at tipoff and have choice selection of seating! Chest thumpers when winning but heads in the sand when losing! Embarrassing!

Every school has fair weather fans. In the 2001 football season for Athens their was only 10 fans at the point pleasant game. Win and Athens was in the playoffs. Athens lost

It's well known that Valley fans are the worst most complaining fans in SE Ohio. You can tell that by attending any if thier games. What a shame because that team is talented.

WOW, this really IS news too me. I guess I am out of the loop! I hate that we are known for our negativity in all of South East Ohio. I guess I must be a LITTLE biased because I don't think I have ever heard from our sidelines anything different from what I have heard from opposing sidelines during the 'heat' of a game or rivalry.
I hope that we can change this perception because I KNOW my boys LOVE our fans and the support our community has for them. I AM proud to be an Indian. Roll tribe!!!

Wow.....

I know there are going to be a few people that have their own agendas when it comes to their children and relatives and their respectively playing time. That happens everywhere. Valley is no different. Last night, the atmosphere was out of this world and the emotions were running very hot. It is what it is.

My advice is to sit on the other side next time and open your ears. You will hear it there too. I have spent a ton of time around all these kids, including drchap's two outstanding young men. This is a tough group of kids and there is no one harder on them than they are themselves. They have won a ton of games and they expect perfection of themselves and as a fan base, we have come to expect the same. Fair or unfair, that is what success brings.

I have no idea where a poster from Athens comes up with that we are the "most complaining fans in SE Ohio". It probably goes to the fact that there would be PFloyd, Dog93, and some guys from Southern posting gibberish on this whole site if it weren't for Valley fans posting. It is what it is. Anyone in attendance last night could tell you all you wanted to know about community support.

Raider, to your point, that was in '02 I believe. I remember the game well, big upset that night in the rain at Point Pleasant at the old Saunders Memorial Field.

I have NEVER ONCE complained that my boys don't get playing time as I am a believer in the coaches knowing and doing their jobs ( NOT ONE TIME has one of our coaches come and told me how to do MY JOB!!). SURE I would love to see them out their more on the basketball floor as I LOVE to see them working hard with a smile on their faces!! They really DO just love being part of this all. They know their strengths AND weaknesses and are just thrilled to be out their with their Buddies! We have such a great group of young men and they ALL expect to win. I agree with Crabs bro 100%.
I could not be more proud to be an Indian and to be a part of OUR community.

The attitudes that your sons have bring a smile to my face. I am never sure what they are going to say next, but they are a blast to be around. They smile nonstop and work their rear ends off. Two great kids and great football players. Their energy and enthusiasm is contagious.

I agree so much...Proud to be an Indian and a part of our community!

The reason I started this post was because it was not just one fan but at least four different fans that were within ear shot complaining about 2 players in particular. I don't believe any of these fans are related to any of the players and I know none of them were parents. None of the complainers were sitting together but all were loudly calling out these players by name. It is my opinion that all these players have worked extremely hard to be as good as they can and if a 17 or 18 year old makes a turnover or misses a block out they realize they have made a mistake and don't need some idiot from their own fan base yelling at them. If you don't have anything good to say keep it to yourself. It was my hope that maybe one or more of these people follow this site and think twice next time before opening their mouths.

I agree! I hope that we can think before we speak and remember that these fellas are giving everything they have out there. I wonder what might have been done or said if the players parents had heard this 'chatter' in the stands. I am pretty sure some would not have taken it lightly.
