You obviously have not been to any volleyball matches at Adena, Chillicothe, Unioto, to name a few. Maybe volleyball has not progressed in your area. Go to OHSAA and check sport participation numbers. Highest number of teams for a sport is boys basketball at 798 girls basketball at 795, volleyball at 794, football at 715. Volleyball at our school has better attendance than the girls bb and has rivaled boys bb at certain matches. I take offense to your disrespect of one of the fastest growing sports over the last 20 years than any other. Many care if the volleyball team wins. Coach Hinton was right by my side and had football team attend our games when possible as he and i feel the school and community benefit from all sports winning and driving school and community spirit. Very narrow minded statement Sure football drives the bus and we all understand that. Ok that being said i now will shrug off your negativity and move forward. See ya!
Thanks and its a free forum so lets talk! The social media aspect to me has been the biggest challenge in the last 5 years if i were to target one aspect. Coaches, players, parents, anybody can be bold and a second guesser on a forum such as this. So many things happen in a game and many minor adjustments ( hopefully you already have them in place before game time ) take place during the game and who knows what took place in practice, school hallways that day, lunchroom, their cell phone messages or text msgs that affect how a kid plays that day. I had a social media war between one of my players and a couple of rivals that brewed all week long, i knew nothing about it until we were done with the first set and it pulled in the two referees, score table, all coaches and players. Its a whole new aspect to coaching that we have deal with. I have tried to contain it but i can only do so much. I see this being addressed in future clinics and coaching forums. I have made a personal commitment to greet each athlete as they come into practice each day with a smile and eye contact and a hello. They then leave cell phone in the locker room and practices are more intimate and productive.
As far as the gender difference, yes totally different. Girls are more emotional and thats ok, they know it and will tell you and i think they are just as fun to coach. Girls are smart and want to do things to perfection and i sometimes tell them you just have to relax and play. Don't get to caught up in technique and perfection.

Be offended then and stick your head back in the sand if you truly believe that. I'd rather watch paint dry than go to a volleyball game between Adena and Unioto, and so would 99% of the people. Your OHSAA participation numbers are absolutely meaningless. Of all the schools that have both football and volleyball, you tell me which school's volleyball team takes center stage. Name just one. Your post is laughable. Football doesn't drive the bus, it IS the bus.
Sure coaches have friends, just not the ones on the field or court that they coach on. Those folks (or parents) are just an acquaintance. But boy do they sure
have a lot of clairvoyant professors that want to tell ya what you should have done to be successful, and luckily the sport gets a whole new set the beginning
of every year. Coaching can be like a deputy, ya tick people off but its not personal, just doing the job. Friends were there before you coached and are there
after.
WSP, you had me till you said you tick them off but it isn't personal. Most head coaches that have had the experience of crazed parents that go to great lengths to destroy a season or create a cancer in your team or even try to take your job, they take it personal.The rest I agree with.
