Hope everything is going well with the current varsity boys at Jackson....would love to see another SEOAL title and playoff run.

On a very sad note former Ironman and 2013 grad Jay Spires was killed in a car wreck. His classmates are trying to raise funds to buy a commerative brick at Alumni Stadium.

Please pray for the Spires family during this most difficult time.

Anyone wanting to contribute can do the following. Thanks

Everyone who knew Jay knows that he was a true Ironman and loved his football team. As class officers, we want to do something on behalf of the class of 2013 to commemorate the death of our beloved classmate, Jay Spires. We feel that donating a brick at the football stadium would be a fitting way to do this. Donations for this would be extremely appreciated. If you are interested we will be at Manpower Park this Thursday July 24th from 5:30-8pm or you can contact one of the officers before August 1st at:
Paige Strawser: 7407101889
Kelly Hughes: 7405778496
Courtney Hattle: 7409886112

Annual red and white game was well attended and boys looked sharp in opening Oklahoma drill and offensive and defensive scrimmage sets that followed.

Next Friday meet team then Saturday scrimmage at Court House...getting closer to August 30th opener at Wellston.

Any more specifics from the Red & White scrimmage? Anyone have a projected starting lineup?

I have to admit that I have been pretty out of the loop recently. Hard to believe that football season is right around the corner.

Saw Jackson this morning vs my Blue Lions. They are a solid looking team. The quarterback threw the ball wel. The 2 ripunning backs they had were good. 44 and number 2. When ey needed a big run, or big play in general they went to number 2. Good hands for a back also. The TE number 23 was big and physical did not set the ball much.

The Jackson defense was tough against the run .

Good luck to you guys this year looks like you have a solid team.

Thanks wch125 you guys had a great facility (once we found it lol) and your school campus is top notch as well.

2 and 23 are seniors. 2 Rafferty missed the last 4 or 5 games last year with a knee issue. 23 Williams just received an offer to Stanford and committed within last couple weeks.

44 and our QB are juniors. The defense we have always had is difficult against the run and I expect same this year. Last year we were a bit vulnerable against spread type teams and the passing game so see if we can improve there.

Your team looks solid and played with a lot of energy some very athletic players so good luck this year and thanks for hosting. Great facilities.

Thanks the football coaches and players have been working hard and I was happy with the way the team looked. I think we should have a good season. We are young at a lot of the positions but our kids are working hard and it's paying off.

44 is that the Cooper Kid? I know he is a solid wrestler I have seen him him wrestle just wondering if 44 was him

44 was Crabtree, a junior.

46 was Cooper, played nose guard and made several nice plays getting into back field. A sophomore with huge upside played as a frosh as well.

How did Jackson look tonight against Nelsonville? I heard they won big, but I was hoping for some details.

My take FootballLover07 from watching the NY scrimmage would be the Ironmen defense is going to be a handful for a run oriented team. NY did not score in the opening 10 series play, may have gotten 20 yards. When they went to simulated "game" and down and distance NY didn't score and I don't think really threatened to score as I remember. A lot of pressure on the NY QB when he dropped back to pass from our D-Line. LB play as you would expect was good, pursued well and finished well.

Offensively we didn't show much, but executed what we did show effectively. Sexton threw some nice throws to Leach who came back and made a great play on a ball a tad under-thrown and a 30-40 yard strike to Cooper also, plus a few over the middle to Williams and others. Probably 5-6 kids with receptions. Running game solid, with some nice gains by Rafferty (who was sick lol for half the scrimmage on sidelines getting rid of his dinner lol) and Crabtree and Farley. Sexton with a nice read and long run for a score as well.

The test will be (Week 3, 4 and 5) and specifically Week 3 against West Jefferson. If we can muster a win there I think confidence is high and we have a very good chance to maintain that momentum into the next couple weeks, and have a season that a lot of people that have watched this group (9-12) predict for a long time. These grades of classes have had a lot of individual success in earlier years and it does appear watching the sidelines that they are starting to mesh and gel as a varsity unit now as well. Coaching staff has done a good job it appears filling some voids from graduating seniors and moving some kids around. So we just have to have some luck and hope for an injury free year, although when the inevitable happens we are deep in most spots so next man up. Several kids did not play in scrimmage or had limited time due to some nagging injuries already.

Freshman squad has some players on it when they scrimmaged, look for a couple to get some time on Friday in some situations.

Doubleplay643, sounds like they had a pretty good night didn't they? How about our offensive line? Who all played, and how well did each of them do individually? As a former offensive lineman, it's a bit weird seeing smaller, more athletic kids playing up front where the big boys are. Will they be able to hold up when they play bigger kids than themselves?

I probably will mess about half this up FootballLover07 because I just don't know all the numbers yet lol it seems they all have different ones this year so no one blow me up if I get this half wrong.

Staten, Fairchild, Woolum, Humphreys, Roseberry, Barger, Crosier all saw some time on O-Line and Williams at tight end and I think Cooper played some tight end as well.

Fundamentally Williams on run support consistently blows opposing players up his technique is excellent (as you would expect lol from a D-1 student-athlete), but the others I though were excellent as well, we had a lot of success but is was a scrimmage and NY is re-building a little this year. I think we will be ok against larger defensive fronts as condition wise we seem to be ahead of the curve, and depth wise there are multiple kids that can provide a spell for a play or series. That gang has a warrior mentality so what they lack in size is made up for in heart.

Ironmen football is straight at you, and as you know we have had some bigger lines in the past typically, but Williams and Woolum (W-squared) are not too tiny lol and I think we will be able to do some things trapping and zone-read wise that will help take advantage of the "smaller" up front line-up. I am confident we should be able to hold our own, but time will tell.

I also witnessed the scrimmage the other night and I can sit and say that the Ironmen looked good just like everyone else. However, various aspects needs worked on. Our O-line need to remember fundamentals and get their steps right and block until the whistle blows. I seen some aggressive behavior out of Fairchild(which I had also seen last year) and who can't Williams block? The Woolum kid could be an asset IF he gets the fundamentals down works on his foot work. I understand this is high school football but you're not going to be able to always over-power so of those opposing D-linemen. However, once the fundamentals are there and the foot work improves I believe this kid along with the other could be pretty good.

Derek Rafferty looked pretty good the other finding holes and improvising on the go. Only thing I seen was that he needs to tuck that ball in like a ball carrier or its possible for us to see many fumbles this upcoming season. Sexton didn't look too bad either. I was really impressed with Leach making adjustments to the ball, very well played. Cooper, Farely, Crabtree, the list really goes on and on at the skilled positions. Granted its nice to have talented kids at the skilled positions but you won't always be able to run around or out run the opponent in general.

IMO I think Jackson will go 6-4 maybe 7-3 at the best. Would I love to see them go 10-0? Of course, but statistically it's probably not going to happen. There is not an opponent on the schedule that I would consider an 'easy win'. Week 3 will be the true challenger. I had actually attended this game last year @ West Jeff and I was disappointed and surprised at the exact same time. I heard all week "West Jeff is just a D5 school etc etc". Well, that D5 school really put it on us last year. Hopefully that will spark some motivation and determination among the squad. I know the coach Hall along with the coaching staff will do everything in their power to have this team ready by next Saturday, from that point forward it will be left up to this bunch.

Good luck!
