Schob steps down at Warren local
Warren local high school head football coach Andy Schob steps down after 4 years. Had a record of 17 - 23. Went 5/5, 5/5, 4/6, and 3/7. Andy was a nice guy but not good head coach material. Wanted to be everyone's friend. Anyone know of any likely candidates?

Maybe they can get Wings Teaford to come in their with his offense that he invented. All Wing T coaches will tell you they have never ran into a defense they cant beat.

Warren is a challenging job to have. The enrollment has shrunk a ton over the last few years. I hope the right coach steps in and gets things back on track.
Re: Schob steps down at Warren local
Could they bring back a coach that still teaches in the school from a few years back?

Paladin would be a great candidate, with all his wisdom and non-Southern Ohio experience. He'd do thins like the big boys do.

I don't care how good your head coach is. If you don't have good assistant coaches your program will not grow.

Warren needs a coach that will get back to the basics. I don't believe that warren is a tough job. Warren has the athletes but if you don't teach the basics from grade school up, then you won't have results. How many warren sports have had a losing record in the last year? I can only think of 1. Football.
A teacher would be nice so they could actually have two a days and not just evening practice. I also think that the whole assistant staff needs refreshed.

This is going to be interesting to see who takes over the helm, the two you have listed will probably not get the head coach. There are only about three assistants that the boys like and that is Johnson, Riffey, and Hutch and the rest not so much. They need to act quickly to get someone in place because the longer they wait may mean whether you have a decent number ouot for the team or most of the boys say the heck with it.whs2422 wrote:Kevin Welsh

Any reason why you don't think welsh or curry would be in the running?
Welsh won't let you take the easy way out. He will make you do conditioning and will make sure you are in the weight room. He lasted one year at warren with a 5-5 record and didn't get voted back even though the team wanted him back. The board needs to quit playing favorites and pick someone with character that can win. Why would you hire Schob from Marietta when he had a 5-15 record other than politics to get the principal's son into more of a passing offense?

Re: Schob steps down at Warren local
I know Andy, and always liked a lot of the things he did on the X&O side of the game. With that said, I also think Warren underperformed despite having some pretty good "Jimmy's and Joe's" as well.
So obviously something wasn't working.
I heard before our game with Warren this year that a big problem with the Warren program was that because of the district's financial issues, the lack of teaching positions meant that most (or all) of the staff had jobs outside of the school and that cut into practice time severely, to the point that Warren couldn't have proper two-a-days heading into the season.
If that's true, it sounds like a big problem that almost any coach is going to struggle to fix.
Andy's a good man, and I'm sure he'd be an attractive candidate for someone's staff. I think he does some creative things on offense, and was surprisingly pragmatic. The Warriors have been well-designed in the run game the last couple of years IMO.
