Minford 2014
Re: Minford 2014
No I'm not kidding. Yes you need some balance in any offense. But several times minford came out and threw the ball three straight times. It just made no sense to me. Even more a majority of their plays are double wing-single back. When you're bigger and probably slower you want to go straight ahead not horizontal. Iso's out of the I fit their personel much better.
Re: Minford 2014
When Minford decided to get in the I and run unbalance putting those two big boys together, they put up more points on Valley than any other team in the regular season. You have to go to what your team strength are, and keep going to them until the other team proves they can stop you.

If Minford would have done this earlier they would have won more games, very true Vladimir.

Re: Minford 2014
I think Minford will be fine next year. From what I hear, Piguet is back out in the weight room, and has gave a verbal commitment to play football his Sr. year. We really missed his speed this year. This kid is one of the most explosive and fastest kids in the area. I also hear there's been some additions to the coaching staff with a very seasoned veteran of the game. I still want that Jackson game week 4 though!! :122245
This is only from what I know of this bunch, but if I had to guess the offensive prospects would look something like this:
TE: J. Alley (Jr.)
OT: Madden, Conley (Jr., Soph)
OG: Parker, Suter (Sr.s)
C: Daniels (Jr.)
WR: Gambill (Jr.)
Qb: Joyce (Sr.)
Fb: A. Alley (Jr.) Compton (Soph)
RBs: Justice, Hall, Piguet, Fitch (All Sr.s)

Re: Minford 2014
Westfan, I only listened to the Minford-Valley game on the radio, but I did hear that Minford went to the I-Formation and had great early success against Valley's D, but they were still one-dimensional, and Valley adjusted.
Vladimir, I TOTALLY agree that Piguet would have been a difference-maker this-past season. Hopefully, he will be fully committed to football and have a great Senior year in 2014. As for the coaching staff, I am now very curious as to who Coach Daniels has added. Not to be negative, but I hope he brought somebody in that knows offense.

Piquet is a nice addition, good for Minford to get him back. Is Joyce #17? Looks like a lot of speed in the backfield.

Hearing Ted Newsome is the new coach coming in. I think we will see a new offense come fall.

To be very nice about your comment, that would be a huge surprise. That being said, I don't believe he would be interested in coming to Minford (we already have an O-line coach). Plus, I don't know much about Newsome, besides the fact that he was run out of P-Town and coached at West last year.

Not really a surprise since Daniels has already brought him in.Anonymous_Falcon_Fan wrote:28Buck wrote:Hearing Ted Newsome is the new coach coming in. I think we will see a new offense come fall.

Re: Minford 2014
I agree the staff is top notch. People ragged on the offense last year myself included but it's hard to run the wing T when the kids don't do the little things that make the Wing T successful. I don't think we will see the Maryland I this fall but I think we will see a version of the Wing T that will keep defenses on their heels.High Plains Drifter wrote:We have a great staff, Is this smart? Minford is lucky to get Newsome, he is an excellent hire, and would be a good addition to staff just about anywhere.
Re: Minford 2014
Trivia- what was the last year Newsome was a member of a staff that coached a team to a winning record?local superstar wrote:Minford is lucky to get Newsome, he is an excellent hire, and would be a good addition to staff just about anywhere.
Re: Minford 2014
Imo, Minford would be crazy to get away from the Wing-T. Its been staple of success there and is known by all the coaches and players.
With that being said there does need to be some diversity, Minford never has passed much since Daniels has been there. Because of that, I wouldn't expect much of a change next year.
If I were a Minford fan I would be ecstatic at what Daniels and company has done in his tenure. That staff took Minford from a mediocrity to winning an Soc championship and making the playoffs nearly every year.
While some things always need tweaking, don't forget to stick to your guns and when you have superior talent, you guys will win the league and make a playoff run. I hope we can establish at West what you all have at Minford (even though we have a 4-3 records versus Daniels :122249 )
