Re: Waverly Sectional
I maintain that Portsmouth probably won't be higher than a 4 seed. The Trojans, for one, face some challenging games before the draw. Two, Portsmouth is the only SEOAL team in the sectional. I've seen it time and time again that league affiliations have the strongest pull when the final votes are tallied. For the most part, leagues stick together.......and coaches know their league member schools better than other league teams. I really believe it doesn't matter who you play and how "tough" your schedule is. If you're the outsider by yourself, which the Trojans are, you're at the mercy of the voters. At Portsmouth, we're used to it, so being seeded #4 or lower won't be a surprise to our coaching staff. The only real chance that PHS has to be higher than a #4 seed is to win out to the draw, which will be a real challenge. Even if that happens, moving above a #4 is certainly not a given. The SVC, SHL, and SOC will have a lot to say about that.
I don't like the way sectional seeding is done, but that's the system we have, and we have to deal with it until changes come.

Thanks guys. 6-6 is what Maxpreps has but it is fairly inconsistent. The standings are up to date.

I hate that, but it is hard to argue with you. I still think the Trojans come into the draw no worse than 13-3 or so. They will have their hands full with Wheelersburg, MLK, and Warren, but if Portsmouth comes to play, they will have a great resume. But, like you said, the SVC has the votes to control this sectional unless, the SOC, SHL, and Portsmouth band together.trojandave wrote:I maintain that Portsmouth probably won't be higher than a 4 seed. On a side note, could you imagine how "happy" Norm would be to walk out of the Jackson meeting room with the #1 seed only to find out Portsmouth is the #4 at Waverly? :122245 :122245 :122245

I saw MLK play Magnolia they are very athletic but not a very sound team or great shooting team.

Trojandave, I have a question. Ptown has beat the best team in every league around with burg and minford to come. Don't see ptown getting the shaft really do you?

Re: Waverly Sectional
Madison Plains 71
Westfall 64
Georgetown 47
Eastern Brown 40
Updated Standings (through 1/14)
Zane Trace (12-1)
Valley (12-2)
Southeastern (10-2)
Portsmouth (9-2)
Eastern Brown (9-3)
Wheelersburg (6-3)
Lynchburg-Clay (7-4)
Piketon (8-6)
West (6-6)
West Union (6-6)
Huntington (5-7)
Adena (4-8)
Northwest (3-9)
Westfall (0-12)
With Eastern losing again and Portsmouth drilling Peebles, I think you can put Portsmouth above the Warriors unless the Trojans drop a few. Zane Trace and Southeastern do not play again until after the draw, but they both have to play Unioto this weekend. If both teams and Valley win out until the 10th. they will be seeds #1-#3 in some order.

Re: Waverly Sectional
As in who plays who? It should be something like this:eagles73 wrote:Anybody have any idea of what the brackets will look like?
8 vs. 9 Winner plays #1 for championship
7 vs. 10 Winner plays #2 for title
3 vs 14
6 vs 11 Winners play for championship
4 vs 13
5 vs 12 Winners play for championship
And if you assume (and I know you can't at all) that the top seeds in both Jackson and Waverly win, your district matchups would be:
Jackson #1 vs Waverly #4
Jackson # 3 vs Waverly #2 Winners play to go to Regionals
Waverly #1 vs Jackson #4
Waverly #3 vs Jackson #2 WInners play to go to Regionals
That should be how it goes.

Re: Waverly Sectional
Crab, the district is right, it is on the ohsaa website. I have it set up like you do, but my coach thinks they will give the 1 sectional seed the best chance to advance which he thinks like a 9 vs 14 matchup, 2 with 8 vs 13 matchup, then others fill in the other 2 brackets. I wish they would get these out sooner.

Re: Waverly Sectional
That make would make absolutely no sense to me (so there is a chance that will happen). In all my years following it, I have never seen it. So, how would this fill out?eagles73 wrote:Crab, the district is right, it is on the ohsaa website. 9 vs 14 (Plays #1)
8 vs 13 (Plays #2)
3 vs 12
6 vs 7
4 vs 11
5 vs 10
That really seems like you are screwing the #6 or #7 seed. I think you need to give the best 8 the chance to advance. So, #1 and #2 only have to play once and the #3 and so forth get the best chance to play in the Sectional title game.

Re: Waverly Sectional
I am curious as to how and where Portsmouth falls. IMO, they are the 2nd, and possibly could argue the best team in this sectional. However, they might end up with 3 losses, depends on Warren.

Re: Waverly Sectional
SE also faces Circleville and goes to Piketon before the draw. I don't see them as only having 3 losses.
ZT shouldn't have more than 3 losses, as I believe, their toughest 3 games before the draw are at home.
Unless Portsmouth falls apart, I think they end up in the top 3, if not top 2.
