Re: Waverly Sectional
14U: Portsmouth is one team that there always seems to be a lot of conversation about in sectional seeding. On one hand, leagues stick together and cast their votes accordingly, since those are the teams they are most familiar with, which puts the Trojans as an outsider looking in. On the other hand, "Nobody wants to play the Trojans" is the yearly cliché that is the scuttlebutt of seeding talk. So where does that leave PHS? In an odd position, perhaps unlike any other team in the sectional. Throw in the factor that Portsmouth is the lone SEOAL school and you have a team who probably has to politic harder than anyone else for a desired seed.
Can Portsmouth really trust the SHL, SOC, and SVC to cast favorable votes for them? Probably not, but I as I said earlier.........PHS is used to this process, and in the end someone will have to play the Trojans. It is just an interesting scenario that this year will take place in Waverly instead of Jackson.
The Minford game will be after the draw since it is the last game of the regular season.

Thanks trojandave. But I watched from the late 70's-90's it didn't matter where you put them Trojans the won. Then ptown hit a bump until the last 5 years they are back!! Like you said they will be placed and somebody will play them. All these top seeds had to play them on their run two years to state and beat them badly. Went to PHS and now have family and kids playing at another school but still watch the Trojans 2-4 times regular and tournaments.

My Streaks will be a tough out for somebody. Kids are stepping up and making big plays when we need them. Big games for us this week.

Re: Waverly Sectional
The only difference in what I posted and Eagles' standings are with Westfall. He has them 0-13 (as does SVC Sportszone) and I have them 0-14 (same as maxpreps). I am not sure that matters much at this point, but everything else appears correct.
We are down to 3 weeks until the draw. I know that league affiliations will be big at the draw, but taking that out of the equation, I think, as of now, it should be Valley-Portsmouth in the 1 and 2 spots. Valley big margin wins over Unioto and Piketon (the two teams that have beaten Zane Trace) and no real "bad losses" as their two defeats are against Warren and Athens. Portsmouth has a great road win over Warren and 3 good wins in Florida. They do have the bad loss to South Point, which I still can't figure out. Portsmouth doesn't have much help in the voting room, but I like their resume better than any of the SVC teams.
My Rankings with 3 weeks to go:
1a. Valley
1b. Portsmouth
3. Zane Trace
4. Eastern
5. Piketon
6. Wheelersburg
7. Southeastern
8. Lynchburg
9. West
10. Huntington
11. West Union
12. Adena
13. Northwest
14. Westfall
In my opinion, there are possibly 6-8 teams at Waverly that may have been the best team at Jackson.

Re: Waverly Sectional
4 very tough ones in a row for the Streaks before the draw, but they have the talent to get those wins and get themselves possibly up to a 5 seed (I don't see Valley, Portsmouth, ZT, or EB coming in with 5/6 losses) and the 5 is virtually the same as a 4 either way. SE has lost 3 of 4 and seems to have lost the defensive presence that they showed against Piketon in their prior meeting, along with looking lost at times lately could cause them to drop at least 3 more before the draw (Piketon/Circleville/Vinton)Jimmy the Greek wrote:My Streaks will be a tough out for somebody. Zane Trace still has a rough road ahead as they see Piketon and Logan Elm before the draw, this could cause them to slip a little bit more.

Re: Waverly Sectional
I think the SE at Piketon game decides where they are seeded. Piketon has played a tougher schedule and beaten ZT in their only meeting, while SE was drilled by ZT previously. But, SE did defeat Piketon handily early on and if they beat them again, with a better record too, that's hard to seed the Streaks higher.......although I think the Streaks are the better team. If we did a blind resume between the 2, it's hard to not take Piketon, but the head to head could be costly.Crab's brother wrote:

I like Piketon to come into the draw at 12-8. I think Unioto has turned it on and I think ZT will get them will they go there. Even if they win all 4, it will be tough for them to catch the top 4. 14-6 and they will be no worse than the 5 seed. At the 5, if would get probably Eastern or ZT and have a great shot to get to Athens. Once there, they would draw possibly Oak Hill or Peake and I still think that would be a good matchup for the Streaks. Now, were they to go 2-2 with another loss to SE, then the Panthers would end up ahead of them so that may knock them to #6. Also, if Wheelersburg were to knock off Portsmouth or Minford and Oak Hill again, they would come to the draw at 13-5 and have a case for the #5 or #6.
It is going to be fun to watch it all play out.
