Zanesville 11 7 9 15 -- 42
Marietta.. 17 9 6 15 -- 47

Marietta turned the tables after losing at Zanesville 53-31 in mid December. Like earlier this week, the Tigers came out and played very well, taking a 24-11 lead after about 12 minutes, about the same time in the game they had taken a 19 point lead against another good team, Riverview, 3 days before and ended up losing in double OT. This time they were able to hold on to the lead even though it got down to 28-27 late in the 3rd qtr, then 42-39 with 1:04 left, and 44-42 with 11 sec left. That gives them a 14-5, 8-4 record compared to 15-5, 9-3 for Zanesville.

Warren. 19 8 11 10 -- 48
Marietta 7 11 14 15 -- 47

Marietta won 3 of the 4 qtrs, all by 3 or more points and still lost the game. They led 7-4, and never led again after it was tied 7-7 with 5 minutes gone, until five seconds left when they took a lead 48-47 on a Deskins FT. From 7-4, Warren outscored them 23-5 to take a 27-12 lead.

Marietta slowly and steadily climbed back, eventually tying it at 46 on a clutch trey by Weppler with 1:05 left. Weppler made two FTs at 1:41 left to cut it to 44-43, then Buzzard promptly made a great post move for 2 from the left side at 1:22 to make it 46-43. After it got tied, Warren missed and Marietta got the ball back with Deskins being fouled on a drive at the 5 sec mark, making the 2nd of two pressure FTs.

Between the time Deskins made the lead taking FT at 0:05.0, and Warren inbounded the ball, Marietta used two time outs. The ball came in to Riffle short on the left, who split a double-team, and in doing so she kicked the ball, which I thought would kill too much time even if she got it back. Amazingly, the ball came right back up to Riffle and she passed it to the middle at about 1/3 court, and then it was passed over the top of a Marietta defender who tipped it as it went to Buzzard on the right baseline, who made a quick move and banked in a short shot. I didn't get a good look at the ball in relation to the light on the board going off, but my impression was that the shot was late, until I saw the official on the left side make a definitive call that it counted. I'd like to see a video of that from the same angle as I had which was right behind Riffle and right in line with the pass to Buzzard. It's so difficult to tell with only one look at it.

Thanks for the info. It confirmed my original perception. It serves to make it a win/win for the girls of both teams in their memories, since no tourney advancement, league championship, or seeding placement was on the line. The Warren girls can remember they upset their arch rival at Marietta. The Marietta girls can remember they went 2-0 for the season against their arch rivals, had the official made the correct judgement on the release after the clock expired, confirmed by video.

Vinton Co. 11 11 12 14 -- 48
Marietta.. 17 14 11 17 -- 59

For the 2nd straight game, Marietta gives up 48 points and wins 3 qtrs, each by at least 3 points. This time the result is a win, their 15th of the season. Marietta's biggest lead was 29-16, while Vinton's only lead was 11-10.

Refs make mistakes all the time but their decision is final. There is also
fouls,to's etc confirmed by video. What is the ole saying about giving a team
a chance to win they will.
Warren played much better this time and Marietta didn't.
Twist it any way you like but it had to hurt to lose at home.

I think I heard someone say it was 1st time Warren had beaten Marietta at home in something like 7-8 yrs., does anyone know the exact time period? That's a loooong time to beat your rival like that
