I guess it's possible Vladimir, but that would make for an awfully wide age gap considering how old Bobby is. Maybe a nephew or cousin. Btw, I think end zone warriors analysis is spot on, I agree with it completely.Vladimir wrote:^ Isn't Coldwater's QB Hoying the younger brother of the former OSU QB Bobby Hoying and he's being looked at by OSU? Coldwater is currently ranked # 7 in the nation by USA today, so people need to get real. While I think W'burg has their chances in this game, they're not Coldwater, no where near the OL Coldwater has.
W'burg is going to have to play a mistake free game to keep up with this Hartley team, and they're capable of doing just that. I do agree some of the things Coldwater exposed against Hartley defense, W'burg has the players to make it happen. Hartley will have the best DB's W'burg has seen all year. Predicting to win big may be a bit optimistic, this game will be decided by a score or less.

Looking on the 'other' forum, there is no respect being given to Burg at all. Apparently, the mighty private school will be entirely too much for the Burg to handle. Some of the comments included "only 1-2 Burg players could even start for Hartley" and the Burg is only here because of "luck of the draw".
Re: D5-Region 17 Final: #1 Bishop Hartley vs #3 Wheelersburg
^ Coldwater's QB Brody Hoying is a first cousin of former OSU and Philadelphia Eagle QB Bobby Hoying. The info you can find out on Google is amazing.

Martin's Ferry people pretty much said the same thing too. Let them go into this game thinking it will be a pushover. It got the Purple Riders taken out back of the woodshed and spanked.
I wonder what 2 players it is that could start for them?
Like was said in an earlier post, doesn't matter what sport, any time a Burg athlete steps on to a field or court they fully expect they are going to win that game. That is something that is put into a Burg athletes mindset at a young age. Is it cocky as some seem to think? Sure is but it is also confidence. If you go into a big game like this without a little swagger then you should not be playing in the game. Fear is never word that is muttered in a Burg practice.
Burg fears no one and respects everyone.

Where is the USA ranking at? I didn't see them in the national rank and the state ranking from USA today I saw had cold water 29, which is probably about right.Vladimir wrote:^ Isn't Coldwater's QB Hoying the younger brother of the former OSU QB Bobby Hoying and he's being looked at by OSU? The ranking is segmented down to small school football: It had Marion Local Maria Stein at #2 and Coldwater at #7 in the nation.
Here it is on Max Preps.com max preps is a CBS affiliate.

In small school football, it also appears Col. Bishop Hartley is ranked # 19 in the nation.

I'm sorry but wheelersburg is not coldwater. They are on a whole different level of football then any team around here. But im pulling for burg but they won't be in this game if they don't establish some sort of running game. And hit the short quick routes because you won't out run these corners on fades take what they give you and hope to contain on defense. Goodluck tho.
Re: D5-Region 17 Final: #1 Bishop Hartley vs #3 Wheelersburg
Burg would have beat Liberty Union worse than 14-7!
Re: D5-Region 17 Final: #1 Bishop Hartley vs #3 Wheelersburg
Coldwater would've beat them by 50. You can't really say that for a fact because LU is a lot better then last year especially their defense but same goes for burg until they get someone who can be physical and quard one on one and send linebackers every play to pressure which they will and Hartley is better then ferry an valley but like I said good luck burg it will take everything and the kitchen sink to win

Let the haters hate and the doubters doubt. The point is it's week 13 and we are still playin. There is so many schools that did not make the playoffs who would have loved to play at least wk 11 yet alone wk 13. There are so many good teams in this area who are getting ready for basketball b/c they either did not make the playoffs or they lost. Win or lose the burg is still playin for the regional title and we are proud of our boys.Endzone_Warrior wrote:I really hope to see all you Burg haters back here on Sat. Night/ Sun. Morning!!
These predictions are ridiculous! Talk about underestimating.
Like I said last week... Hope this is how the coaches/players think!
Burg will find a way to win.
IMO burg may very well get beat but they are not gonna get beat by as much as some are predicting.

Anyone can lose at this point, but to talk as if Burg doesn't even belong on the same field as them is ridiculous!

Way some are talking like Wheelersburg might as well stay home, they are already beaten.
Will, Wheelersburg Pirates go up there and show them that this little town in Southern Ohio knows how to
play football. I would much rather be the underdog. GO BURG!!!!!

Burgs challenges are to keep the backs contained, do not give up the edge and big play much like Liberty Unions game plan was( I really hope they got that film). I think that Burg will have success against them and come away with the win in a battle.
lrn4lf wrote:Look for the burg to win this one BIG! EM3 too much for Hartley! Eddie Miller will put them away single handledly. As long as his throwing shoulder stays healthy, he will throw the burg into the state semi finals !!
I don't think anyone is hating on the Burg. However, to the comparison to Coldwater is where I think people see it's a bit of a stretch. Saying W'burg has a better Qb and better Wrs than nationally ranked (#7) Coldwater just isn't being real. Coldwater is hands down the D5 favorite. Coldwater beat Hartley 41-16, and to think Burg will beat Hartley by anywhere near the same margin just isn't being real either. I look for this to be decided by a score or less, and yes I do think Burg can win.Endzone_Warrior wrote:Like I said before, we will see! A little off burg hartley topic here but I think you might be going a little overboard with the nationally ranked stuff. They didnt play anyone out of state, no way to prove it and its really comes down to its just someones oppinion. Watching the game films on coldwater they didnt appear to be as physically imposing as in years past and after looking at there roster they arent.Their qb appears to be their offense. Look at stats of hartley coldwater game and you would think hartley won, hartley had 430 yds offense. Now after saying all that they are the powerhouse of small school football in ohio. Defending state champs and they have been to state final 4 yrs running. Hard to argue they are not the favorite to repeat in 13. Go check out their web site, very nice.

Re: D5-Region 17 Final: #1 Bishop Hartley vs #3 Wheelersburg
I just finished browsing the "puddle" forum and man are they hilarious! Seems to me that a majority of the obvious Hartley fans are humble and looking for a good hard fought game, while others are throwing their crap against the wall. Yes most of my little scouting report style post last night was based off of the Coldwater game in which their Defense was shredded and offense was shut down in the 2nd half. The Cin. Withrow team I watched was not the caliber I would expect out of a D-2 team. Yes they brought in a spread offense that Hartley stopped, but I wouldn't dare compare them to Burg's playing/coaching style.
Also, I only seen the Coldwater QB play against Hartley and yes IMO based off that game, I think the two are very similar in style and I really don't care what rank they are or whatever else nationally...ranking is all from a team stand point anyhow, although they do have a nice team and a great coach.
Would love to see a Burg vs Coldwater final, but one step at a time....one step at a time!

Re: D5-Region 17 Final: #1 Bishop Hartley vs #3 Wheelersburg
I agree one game at a time as any possibility of a Coldwater/ W'burg game is two weeks away. OHSAA announced the winner of the Burg/Hartley game will play the winner of the Akron Manchester / Crestview. Coldwater/Huron will play the winner of the W.Jeff/ Hamilton Badin.
Also, Yes Coldwater has been to the state championship 4 consecutive years and they're the defending state champs. Coldwater along with Marion Local-Maria Stein, and Delphos St. Johns are the Mercer county dynasty of the MAC conference that rules Ohio small school football.
