Re: Week 9 wheelersburg 8-0 vs Valley 8-0
I don't have a dog in this fight so I am not rooting for either team. On paper, I believe you could argue for either team. Both team are very good (8-0), can score points and have good defenses. Yes ... I said good defenses. Valley's defense is a given but Wheelersburg's defense has make a 360 since the beginning of the season. I believe field position will determine the outcome of the game. Of course many times, turnovers and coaching decisions determine field position so I am covering a lot of things. Regardless it should be a great game. I agree with the earlier poster .... I hope the officials stay out of it.
Re: Week 9 wheelersburg 8-0 vs Valley 8-0
The there are 2 reason for last years defeat against Valley.
1. Valley outcoached Wheelersburg
2. Hettinger
Wheelersburg could not block him. He was the biggest play maker on Defense that I have seen in years. Our O-line was very weak and did not have an answer for him. As far as the coaching goes if you remember it poured the rain all day right up until game time and I'm hoping that's why the decision to try to come out and run the ball occurred. I keep saying it this years team is not like the teams in recent past. Wheelersburg is way stronger and extremely deep this year. They have taken back the mentality that has been in our system in the past which is total domination and they know they are going to win heading into any game. I cannot see this senior class coming through Wheelersburg and not winning an SOC! Miller and Parsley and their blood line will not let that happen! I'm going with the pirates 28-14.......

Re: Week 9 wheelersburg 8-0 vs Valley 8-0
Valley did have a good game plan last year and Hettinger was a beast in the middle of that line, but there are about 10 other guys that return from that defense. Hayden Dunn played a huge role in setting the edge when Burg tried to waggle pass. The secondary was able to man up with Burg and run with them, unlike other teams. For every "Burg is better than last year" there is a " Valley is better than last year." I cannot see a group that has been a part in back-to-back SOC's in 2 sports not win a third as seniors. See how this works?then what wrote:The there are 2 reason for last years defeat against Valley.

Both teams are filled with athletes and winners, so I don't see anyway that this game doesn't come down to turnovers.
Re: Week 9 wheelersburg 8-0 vs Valley 8-0
See that was the problem Dunn and Hayden played a huge role in setting the edge when burg tried to waggle pass because we didn't run our offense. For some reason we went to Valley and thought we could run the ball with the worse line in Wheelersburg history. Which goes back to my 1st reason why we lost last year. I'm not taking anything away from Valley last year or even this year but I'm here to tell you The pirates are loaded. However if our coaching staff doesn't put together a game plan that puts us in a position to win (like last year) then yes there is a chance for Valley. Should be a good game.Bo_Diaz wrote:Valley did have a good game plan last year and Hettinger was a beast in the middle of that line, but there are about 10 other guys that return from that defense. Re: Week 9 wheelersburg 8-0 vs Valley 8-0
Bottom line...should not be too much talking trash...both teams are excellent and fun to watch...saying your not impressed with either team then you just are not impressed with football at all. Should be a great game and if playoffs games are on different nights each of us will be first in line to support the other school in a mere two weeks. Good luck to both squads and the second season right around the corner!!
Re: Week 9 wheelersburg 8-0 vs Valley 8-0
taking Burg in this one just think they are a little better than Valley think the score will be closer than indicated at the end but Burg comes out on top by 10

Two yrs ago yes valley was the better team but last yrs 9-7 valley win was handed to them by the refs and everyone who was there knows that. As for this yrs game I look for a shoot out like like two yrs agoHere4Fun wrote:Comparing schedules at this point means nothing Burg the last 2 years has had a tougher schedule than Valley and How did that work out.....?Neutron Man wrote:Valley has played who again? WOW.... :122246 A burg fan complaining about a bad call from the refs Well now you know how the rest of the county feels when they come to play in Ed Miller stadium....Mad_Dogg wrote:Two yrs ago yes valley was the better team but last yrs 9-7 valley win was handed to them by the refs and everyone who was there knows that. I can't wait for this game! I wish I could be there for it!! This is going to be an awesome game. As I said b4 I think burg will jump out on top early but valley's size will wear on the pirates in the second half. I look for burg to own the first half and valley to own the 2nd with burg holding on to win!!

I agree with you on burg owning the first half and valley the second half but I think valley gets the win

If Burg plays with as much heart as they did two years ago against Valley they will come out on top. Do what you do Pirates and leave it all on the field.

Burg will not stop Valleys run game which will allow them to slow the game down and not turn it into a track meet and keep burgs offense off the fieldOld Bulldog wrote:If Burg plays with as much heart as they did two years ago against Valley they will come out on top. Re: Week 9 wheelersburg 8-0 vs Valley 8-0
No matter what any of us say, Friday will arrive and it will play out the way it plays out. The refs won't be a factor. The ONLY factor will be the players and coaching staffs directly involved in the game. When I read this site (and my own posts are guilty too), I'm often reminded of one of the first competitive lessons I learned as a kid...Talk is cheap! Both of these teams are capable of embarrassing the other. And, if either team doesn't bring it Friday night, they'll likely get embarrassed.
I appreciate the post that said no matter what, both communities will be supportive of the other team in the post season! I'm excited for these two teams to get to play in this game!! But, as a Valley alum and fan, let's go Purple!!!!

JMHO. I honestly think this is Valleys best, deepest and most athletic team ever. The same can't be said for Burg. This is no where near their best team. Burg does have some outstanding ball players. I am impressed with a few individual players from Burg. But as a team, I think Valley has the better team.
Very well said ......!!!!!!
Re: Week 9 wheelersburg 8-0 vs Valley 8-0
I like Valley to win....but lets not get ahead of ourselves. We're not going to walk in and "spank" the #1 team in D5 at their house. It's simply not going to happen.
It will be a HARD fought football game. Valleys ability to run the football (or not) will be the difference in the game. Burg is always 1 play away from a BIG play, so we have to keep that offense off the field and control the clock.
I'll stick with my FG to win..

Any way we can get the offensive and defensive stats for both valley and burg?
