#16, #17, #19 and #20 didn't even have teams.
9 coaches did not vote
Reedsville Eastern (easily the top team) had 4 coaches not vote them in the top 10
Trimble a definite top 5 team had 4 coaches not have them in the top 20 (only 17 teams)
South Webster had 3 coaches vote them outside the top 20
The #6-#13 seeds only had about 3 combined votes that were ridiculously off
Whiteoak (last alphabetically) but just finished 2nd this past Saturday in their league had 3 last place (29th) votes one next to last and one other vote outside the top 24.
It will all work out but if you are going to vote at least put all the actual teams above those without teams.
Good Luck to all the runners!

Much more realistic but one coach just closed his eyes and selected.

Re: SE District Voting
Their should be a penalty for not voting and who you voted for should be shown.

Who everyone voted for was shown.wch125 wrote:Their should be a penalty for not voting and who you voted for should be shown. It's disappointing when teams are penalized for laziness or being down right unethical with the vote. Just my 2 cents about voting and seeding teams.
More lazy than unethical IMO.
Re: SE District Voting
True it would be more lazy after thinking about it that's why I removed it. I would agree with lazy.
Re: SE District Voting
Only assigning points to full teams would decrease the lopsided voting a decent bit.
Re: SE District Voting
In the central district, each coach votes to rank the teams. This is public record and it is given out at the seeding meeting. It is also done before the seeding meeting starts. It is a simple drag the team name over and place them in order program.
The races are set up with a predetermined number of teams in the race. Then the lowest seeded team chooses their race and it works its way up to the # 1 seed. However if a race is full and a higher seed wants to enter that race then the lowest seed will be bumped into the other race. It rewards the best teams and should ensure more of less even races. If a team is not represented at the meeting they will be placed in the race with the most openings.
There was talk of the this at the SEOTCA coaches meeting. Be apart of the change

Re: SE District Voting
the old system was fine .we showed up and voted that day in front of everybody.if a coach wasnt there that team took a hit but coaches were always fair and close to mile split ranking .atleast you could talk face to face.this voting in shadows has to go.apart of being a coach is speaking up for your team and if it takes a sunday or late week night, thats what it takes.our kids work hard all year to get there we should do our best to help them.

Re: SE District Voting
Repeat, repeat, repeat - HOW do you seed teams who are close when cross country courses are so different? AND, though many are measured using GPS, we all know that climate and environment can interfere with accuracy. We have no requirements as to how courses must be measured or just what the make up of a cross country course must be. Some can be "track on grass" and others can be very difficult cross country courses. When some teams do not get the opportunity to compete on certain courses because of travel time or expense it makes it even that much more difficult. For me, it is obvious who some of the good teams are because they stand out, however, there are many teams who always finish in the middle of the pack in big races who may be much better than their scores have indicated throughout the season. There is also the situation where many of us have not witnessed many of these teams run.
We have a team of varsity boys at nelsonville - are we good? In my opinion - nope. But can we be seeded 9th as we are? Yes and no. When looking at the listing on Athletic.net then, yes, we can be seeded 9th. But having confidence that we can run that well - well, I have yet to reach that point.
In closing, after watching many invitationals with Reedsville Eastern girls I very strongly believe they should be the number 1 seeded team. If they are not because of coaches egos then "Houston we have a problem." However, it is my guess they will be competing with a huge chip on their shoulder this Saturday and I can't say as I blame them!
Hell, in track and field we still have coaches entering "wishful thoughts" as times, heights, or distances and it totally screws up that seeding process. So, what do we have coaches calling for a times only way of doing things whern our rule book still uses place over time and even in the Olympics there are qualifying rounds. We have an "open pit" concept in field events which I abhor because those who should get the opportunity to go head on head/mano el mano do not get such the opporrunity.
But, as always, the dirt comes out in the wash and the cream always rises to the top and those of us who have been doing this for years KNOW that is the truth. We can lie about times, heights, and distances, and we can vomit male bovine excrement with the best of them about our kids but the truth is there for all to be known at the finish line.
