I look for it to be gahs, as much as they beat their chest remaining in the seoal, I see it folding soon.
I think they decide to ask in.

Re: Ironton to the OVC?
First off, I was stunned by this union. I don't think Ironton is ever happy in a league environment, it affects their flexibility to schedule which they always enjoyed. As far as GAHS....they will remain in the SEOAL at least until one of the other 3 make a move (Warren being the most likely), if that happens then Katie bar the door, it will be a race for GAHS and Jackson to find a stable situation with most likely the TVC or OVC but it's hard to tell where the domino's may fall for sure. You're Tiger Bait wrote:I look for it to be gahs, as much as they beat their chest remaining in the seoal, I see it folding soon.

hey a-dog wassup brother. you are right ironton does love the flexability to be able to play anywhere. but something has apparently changed. our attendance at home games as well as away has been very poor. it isn't directly related to a struggling year in football, they are just way too young. they'll pop right back out of it. but when the state added a seventh division, they plummeted from d4 to d5, and only missed d6 by 6 kids, that is quite a drop in actuality.
I really do see the writing on the wall for the seoal, as much as i'd like to see it stay together, and be successful. I honestly think that neither Portsmouth or ironton neither wanted initially to be in the ovc, but geographically it was the only place that made sense. many people don't take into account their location, you step out of these 2 cities , you are in the ohio river. and there are very good quality programs to schedule reasonably close in ky. and west va.
without traveling 3 hours. -------I have no idea how it happened , but we are there. I think it's a great fit myself after reflecting on it, and I was totally opposed to it at first. i'm just a fan like everybody else, as long as we continue to play very successful programs in the non conf. i'm all for it. and the bottom line is getting people in the seats. after that making the playoffs.------------------and give me a call sometime, i'll pm you my number if you son't still have it. great talking to you, your bulldogs are doing great.

Re: Ironton to the OVC?
and I see some ovc teams that are stepping up their play. actually I think more than football at least initially it makes a killer basketball conference.let's be honest in most tears past when ovc teams met with ironton or Portsmouth it was a blowout. but both programs have been reduced substantially enrollment wise.all the stadiums are getting facelifts. i'm kinda excited about it myself. every year it is what if's about who was tougher. now we get to play them. every teams goal should be to go undefeated, win a league, make the playoffs, and the state. and now the kids again can compete for league honors and mentions as well. I like it.

Re: Ironton to the OVC?
Bait, I do think Ironton is a good fit as well as Portsmouth in the OVC, I was just surprised because Ironton seems to like the flexibility to schedule as they please and I think that has a lot to do with their departure from the SEOAL on a couple of occasions to become independent. I hope Ironton and Portsmouth make a real commitment to the OVC and stays for the long haul and not jump ship in a few years because those burned bridges could be difficult to repair in their back yard. Good luck to all of the schools involved, great move for the schools and the league as a whole. You're Tiger Bait wrote:A-Town Big Dog 2 wrote:First off, I was stunned by this union. Re: Ironton to the OVC?
A-Town Big Dog 2: There's absolutely no where else for Portsmouth to go........after leaving the SEOAL, having been turned down by the SOC with virtually no hope of ever gaining membership, and struggling to find games for 11 years as an independent, PHS is happy to be in the OVC, a conference that is travel friendly, and the member schools are relatively close in enrollment. Our kids will still have the opportunity to play for a conference championship, and at the same time make a push for the playoffs. Winning enough games should take care of that, as pembrook burrows pointed out in his post. Membership in the OVC is indeed a long term solution for Portsmouth athletics. Considering the proximity of the OVC schools to each other (including Portsmouth and Ironton), I don't see Portsmouth concerned with SOC membership any longer.

While I won't personally pay the ransom, I'm sure we can get the "Old Broken Down Tiger Fans" together to post the price...
All kidding aside, I hope at the Board meeting that the school board will vote to approve the move. I don't know who is on the ICS BOE, but I hope they will think of the kids before thinking of "well back in my day..."
Like I said, Ironton is already practically in the league for everything other than football and it hasn't hurt them, and I hope that eventually more and more Tiger fans will see the positives of this. Even though this is the football forum, you have to think of more than football when it comes to these things, and I think in the long run Ironton will benefit in many ways from being in the OVC.

While I don't think our two schools have played each other in football for several years, I know our basketball teams have certainly developed a nice little rivalry especially in the OHSAA Tourney.

No dog in this fight but this post is spot on. It was not a good idea for rock hill, coal grove, or south point to let ironton in. Ironton was coming back to the pack a little. South point was coming on and coal grove is still competitive. That won't happen in 3 to 5 years when two or three of their better athletes are at ironton.
The county schools had a reasonable chance to compete with lutz gone, and they let ironton get up off the mat.

Re: Ironton to the OVC?
Addressing the transfer thing really quickly...
Currently, all but 1 of Lawrence County's 7 school districts have "Open Enrollment" while 1 (Rock Hill) has "Adjacent Enrollment"
"Open Enrollment" means that any kid that is an Ohio resident can enroll in these schools regardless of where he lives. Meaning a kid can live in Rome and go to Ironton or live in Gallipolis and go to Fairland. Rock Hill's policy, however, will only accept students from adjacent districts (Bloom Vernon Local, Dawson-Bryant Local, Green Local, Ironton City, Oak Hill Union, Symmes Valley Local.)
So let me ask you this -- those of you complaining about the enrollment policies, how many of you have expressed this concern to your elected officials who run the schools? Better yet, how many of you volunteer at the schools or support the schools through something other than athletics? Because let me be frank, honest, and a bit blunt; if you complain about kids leaving your district, but do nothing to try and help them have a better, more positive experience in your district then you are part of the problem, not the solution, and complaining about kids wanting to go somewhere they will get all of those things instead of trying to help them where they are is ludicrous and a bit selfish.

Re: Ironton to the OVC?
OVC is a natural fit for Ironton and SOC would have been one for Portsmouth.
But now the OVC will benefit with the addition of these two schools and what they bring in all sports as well as easy travel.
Will the OVC be able to add a team or 2 in the future only time will tell but as it stands I believe this is not only a positive step for Ironton and Portsmouth but for the OVC as well.

Chest thumping? Are you serious? I would not call it "chest thumping' to want to preserve a historical league and the historical rivalries. But then again, Ironton folks do know a little bit about "chest thumping" :122245You're Tiger Bait wrote:I look for it to be gahs, as much as they beat their chest remaining in the seoal, I see it folding soon.

Re: Ironton to the OVC?
Hard to go some place else when no other league wants you so Warren is kind of stuck for now, god knows we've tried to go to another league(TVC twice and MVL once). I figure we will stay in the SEOAL until it dies or someone else joins all of us that are left, the other option would be to go independant but I don't favor that at all.A-Town Big Dog 2 wrote:First off, I was stunned by this union. Re: Ironton to the OVC?
i like the ovc as is. I think 4 out of conference games is good. If you add a team, that drops to 3 out of conference games. If the ovc is really down one year, ironton and portsmouth may need that extra game. I especially do not want to hear them complain about not making playoffs with a 7-3 record.
