Re: OVC Championship Fairland @ Coal Grove
Things to watch:
Will Coal Grove be as pumped for this one as Fairland will be?
The Dragons were pumped up last week, facing a less-than-impressive 1-5 Chesapeake team. Granted, Chesapeake is Fairland's big rival; but the Dragons have overlooked the Panthers in years past and hung in there even when they got hit in the mouth a few times. They will almost certainly be even more pumped for this one. With just a marginal shot of making the playoffs, I'm interested to see how intense the Hornets are tonight.
Turnover Battle
This one can't be stressed enough. Coal Grove CANNOT afford to hand Fairland the ball. This sounds silly, but there is a chance that Fairland could score on every drive they're given. Coal Grove has to be smart and methodical on offense.
On defense, a couple of forced turnovers would be huge for the Hornets if they could make them happen. Fairland's defense isn't exactly the Steel Curtain itself; and turnovers could be crucial if the CG offense is on point.
Coal Grove Running Game
Over the past few years, it seems like most of the tight games Coal Grove has been in are ultimately placed on the legs of the power running game. Yes, the Hornets pass now (and are often very effective at it); but late in the game with a small lead or little margin for error, us Coal Grove fans are used to seeing 3 yards and a cloud of dust in an attempt to eat up clock. I think Coal Grove can score on this Fairland team. I also think they can hang on to the ball. Should they play enough defense to be in it at the end, I think the question will be how much the Dragons are forced to respect the running game of Coal Grove.
Good luck to both teams; and everyone have fun tonight!

An hour until kickoff. Will try and update this thread with plays of significance throughout the game.
Here is to a well-played injury-free game by both sides. Hornets get it done in a lower-scoring game than the experts are calling.

Congrats to both teams on a well-played game. Both squads gave it their absolute all. Hope that the young RB for Fairland is ok.
