Re: SVC 2013-2014
Dog fight at the top between Southeastern, Unioto, and Zane Trace. Piketon is the next best and most likely to upset one of the top 3 and then it's the rest. Although, I do think Adena and Paint Valley make great strides from a year ago.

Re: SVC 2013-2014
Don't sleep on the Redstreaks. Everyone is counting on them to be down after losing the seniors, and that it realistic to think that. But I believe that they will just be reloading, and be a team that is right in the thick of the title hunt this year.

Re: SVC 2013-2014
I am going to go with Unioto out front.... Hosley inside along with Strange, Corcoran, and Overly should be fun to watch.
ZT right with UHS at the top. Its gonna depend on how Connor Smith steps up inside and if Hall or Petzel can partially fill Beam's shoes. The guard play from starters to bench should be a thing to watch. Hutton and Mowery will be 2 of the best in the SVC the next few years...combine that with Rittenhouse, Nesser, etc coming off bench...should be able to wear down other teams out front.
Southeastern will be a favorite as well....they have very talented guys out front and a big man with versatility inside.
Piketon will distance themselves from the rest of the teams left...and I think Adena and PV will be greatly improved

Is the Hall boy a physical post player. I saw him last year and he roamed around the three point line. Has he bulked up to be able to play the post?

Re: SVC 2013-2014
Hall has grown up a lot from what I have heard. You have to remember he was just a freshman last year. The kid definitely is athletic...I think he just lacks a little confidence sometimes.
Now, as far as bulking up, I am not sure...but he had a knack for getting rebounds inside late in the season..

Re: SVC 2013-2014
Zane Trace Mowery stays out of foul trouble best play in the league
Southeastern New Coach with nice older players mixed with a lot of young talent
Unioto Ton of talent hard to lose with that much talent
Piketon They know how to win been best program the last few years.
Adena Not a ton of talent but play hard. Need to see if they can learn how to share the bball
Westfall Will battle with Huntington for this spot
Huntington
Paintvalley Can play with bottom teams but have no chance vs. top 4
Predict Gold Ball for ZT unless they would get the injury bug. Only way to beat this team if you get them in foul trouble. They have nobody to rebound like Beam but they will be quick and have the best player in the league.
Unioto has the talent to win but they always seem undisciplined down the stretch and make poor decisions.
Southeastern team to watch have some vets mixed with young talent and prob. the best coaching staff in league you better beat them early because second half of season they will be very tough to beat...

could you explain what you mean by Adena needs to learn to share the bball?
Did they get some transfers that can shoot the ball?

The Unioto v. Zane Trace matchup(s) will be huge to determine the league winner. I do think Southeastern will be improved I'm just not sure that they're the 2nd best team in the league. I'm a little surprised that you rank Paint Valley dead last. They beat a very solid Vinton County team last year and returned almost everybody didn't they? I think they're 5-7 in the league this year. Westfall/Huntington will battle for the last spot.fivedimes wrote:Zane Trace Mowery stays out of foul trouble best play in the league

Re: SVC 2013-2014
just an update....
Hall for ZT is about 6'5 now and they have said he is much improved. Will probably start for Coach Alley this year.
First five should look like this
Hutton-PG Assist Machine, much improved scorer last year
Mowery-SG One of the best in the league as a Freshman, has grown as well
Hinty-SF Sharpshooter at times, 3 ball specialist
Hall-PF Young, long, athletic kid
Smith-C Long, athletic, played his first 3 years away from the paint, may have to change his game a little

Re: SVC 2013-2014
Probably did mess up Paint Valley might be better than Hunt. and Westfall.
When I seen Adena play a couple times last year just seemed like they had a few that played a little out of control not bashing anybody especially kids. Just saying they play very hard but on the offensive end they would be better off to learn how to pass a little more and not force up shots, again not here to bash just my opinion. Should be some very good games especially the top 4 teams. I think we will see way better basketball in the SVC than we did football.

Re: SVC 2013-2014
... interesting poll numbers at the top of the thread with Southeastern leading the voting followed by Zane Trace and in a distant 3rd spot tie are Unioto and Piketon ... lots of high praise from around SEO from folks having seen/scrimmaged vs Unioto ... Zane Trace has a great perimeter game with their personnel - Hutton/Mowery/Hinty for sure will be watching to see what kind of "in the paint" game the Pioneers roll out this season ... Southeastern ? I need a rundown of what has them sitting on top of the polling numbers by the SVC faithful ...

Re: SVC 2013-2014
Southeastern returns a lot of experience and talent. Dylan Miles, Austin Hice, and Jordan Allen have all played big minutes the last 3 years, while Kannon Strausbaugh, Tyler Cartee, and Jake Skeens were key contributors last season. They do have a new coach (3 time Girls CoY) Jeran Cox and many think that could put them over the top.
Unioto travels to Southeastern on the 1st league night and then hosts Zane Trace the next evening, so they will be thrown into the fire immediately.
