SOCIOECONOMICS
What University resides in Vinton?
Don't you think that OU helps Athens athletes ?
What is the difference in district square mileage.
You keep trying to compare apples to oranges,,,there is no comparison.
Why are you sooo against bringing in schools that are close to or bigger in size?????
I really don't believe Athens was brought into the league to stay in the OHIO it was allowed in, in hopes of an expansion that they are so against.
And to be honest, it is the total arrogance of the majority that really bothers me.

Re: What's next for the SEOAL?
Some advantages Athens has to many other school in seo.
1 Athens county has 5 hs in it. 1 of those is Athens hs. Athens hs district limits are not much bigger then the city limits and it's still a d3.
2 Outside of Lancaster, Athens is probably one of the large cities in seo pre-cap. Equaling in more kids to choice from in a much smaller area. Little to no farm kid or kids from the out skirts of the county.
3 Any can look at a OU coaching rooster and a Athens hs rooster and see matching last names. How many schools in seo have that?

I'll tell you when. Never
I wouldn't care if they brought in Gallia, Jackson and Warren ... Athens plays them in everything anyways. I wouldn't care about Logan either. They haven't played them in football - but they do all the other sports.

You've obviously never hung out in Athens.1987chieftains wrote: 2 Outside of Lancaster, Athens is probably one of the large cities in seo pre-cap. Equaling in more kids to choice from in a much smaller area. Little to no farm kid or kids from the out skirts of the county?
Two minutes - three minutes tops - I can go from the Convo to my buddies farm.
Ever been to Millfield? Sugar Creek? How many times have you been to Chauncey? And I'm pretty sure we don't need a subway system here on The plains due to over population.
Athens is one of the smallest schools in the state of Ohio in Division 3 ... lose a few more kids and they can be D4 ... don't go making Athens out to be some sort of Lancaster, Parkersburg or even Portsmouth (which has 3 high schools) ... its a small division III school in Appalachia and that's how it is viewed by the rest of the state.

And yet they remain gutless. Big, Bad Athens. Playing in a minor league. Ducking the big boys. The inferiority complex must be killing them.
Another expansion on the way in the SEOAL. Meanwhile the bullpuppies feast on small weak schools for more titles. Everyone see them for what they are
YELLOW looks good . Wear it well !

Re: What's next for the SEOAL?
You are correct in that but what I think you or ppl failing the see is. Even though Logan is the biggest school in the SEOAL the non-league schedule usually has a school 2 or 3 time larger on it schedule. This is something Athens doesn't do. They are happy playing Gallia, Jackson and Warren. They need to go outside of the comfort zone. Play average to good teams from c-bus or else where. They need to pick a zanesville, Sheridan, hammy, etc..93Bulldog wrote:Typing BIG FISH over and over and over again is stating facts?
Here is a fact ... Logan is bigger than Athens - than Athens is Nelsonville-York ... there is like 180 boys difference between Logan and Athens - and only 146 between Athens and NY.
The Chieftains were our long time rival, a team I use to hate when I played ... but you know what, I went out and competed and took the situation like a man ... I never cried "big fish" constantly and whined over them being a bigger school!
and maybe if you posted 'big fish' on Logan threads or Tri-Valley threads or any other school that is the largest in its league - then I could understand your stance a little ... but since its only Athens, your stance is perfectly clear.

Re: What's next for the SEOAL?
1987CHIEFTAINS ... Athens is the No. 1 seed. What more could you ask for? The goal is to win your league and be in the best possible position to make a run ... they did that. You can't be better than No. 1.
and BTW ... they are playing Zanesville next year.
keep in mind, when they made the schedule two years ago (home and homes) they had lost to Gallia, they had lost to Jackson, they had lost to Warren the year before ... Athens at the time the schedule's were made out believed it was playing a tough schedule ... not to mention they didn't know what to expect from Watkins Memorial (a bigger C-bus school you mentioned they should play when they have already played one the last two years.)

Re: What's next for the SEOAL?
Poor bulldog. Its already been established that Logan has a county school district of over 300 square miles, which causes it to lose many of it students who don't play sports because they don't have a way home if they don't ride the bus. So, Logan drop down to a D-III or D-IV from a D-II in numbers of kids then available for sports. Athens, big, bad Athens that is, remains a city school district of 87 square miles that leaves most of it D-III students available for sports with little travel problems. Your numbers game is a joke. Logan then schedule D-I teams to play with the disadvantage outlined. What "risk" do the bullpuppies take ?
You wear YELLOW well.

Re: What's next for the SEOAL?
You guys crack me up. All the students who move here from outside southeastern Ohio to go to OU think Athens is a small hick town ... but the people who live in southeastern Ohio who aren't from Athens think its some sort of big city.
I guess we're just stuck between a rock and a hard place.
Get outside Logan, Paladin ... go experience the world a little and you'll see how small Athens really is.
What's really funny: during the school year sports season, Athens is viewed as a 'big school' - 'big city school' ... but Lancaster and Pickerington are in our district for legion baseball and they use to make fun of us and call us rednecks. I never understood how it was possible to be to both - but we were I guess.

Re: What's next for the SEOAL?
bulldog, you are a loser. U.S. govt stats show Athens City to be (2012 estimate) 23,755 and Athens Co. to be 64,304. Logan ( using the same data) is 7, 157 and Hocking Co. is 29,273. There is your numbers "game" . You lose. On district square mileage that keeps our kids out of sports, you lose. You have NO argument at all. As I said before, Athens is gutless.
BTW, I live in a county of over 225,000 and in a metro area of 700,000. I do get out and see a lot of the world. If you got out of your Mom's basement, you might learn some things you are foolish about now.
And the YELLOW still looks good on Athens.

Re: What's next for the SEOAL?
I've been all over, Paladin ... and Athens is a SMALL TOWN, man.
Also ... go back and look ... OU students are added into the Athens numbers ... kind of misleading there seeing as a 21-year old kid probably doesn't have a child in high school.
(look at the median resident age ... its 21.6)
(Ohio median age is 39.3)
They are counting OU students.

Re: What's next for the SEOAL?
If the TVC doesn't mind Athens in the league - they voted them in and there is no movement to get them out - why should you mind? Is the TVC weaker year-in-and-out typically compared to the SEOAL? Yes, but that gap has radically closed due to the shrinking SEOAL.
Athens is trying to schedule up. Zanesville in football; Akron SVSM in basketball. If Athens was playing Miller, Crooksville, Belpre, Northwest and Huntington in its non-league, I could see you busting their chops, but they aren't.
Also I find it interesting this square mileage argument comes up now with Logan. Where was it when Logan was winning the SEOAL nearly every year?

Re: What's next for the SEOAL?
Its always been there since consolidation. But you never hear us whining about it, win or lose. I only throw that out because Athens lives by the numbers. They duck people using the numbers argument. We are a D-II school with an effective turnout availablity of kids for a D-III/IV. That didn't stop us from playing D-I & II. The numbers game is Athens constant whine. A compact city school district until recently a D-II and now a D-III. But they count each body because they are in the city then turn yellow if someone has a total of more, no matter that many can't come out because of a transportation problem. And the TVC is made up of former SEOAL members who ran from the league because they couldn't compete. We only get this false bravado because Athens currently has some athletes but that won't last long and soon they'll want to feast again on Cow Pie Hi, Swine Valley and Chicken Scratch Hollow and not Zanesville or SVSM ( be serious ?), much less the SEOAL. While its hilarious, its also quite pathetic. But typical for much of SEO -- duck real competition . They belong back in the SEOAL but have this sense of entitlement of winning everything in a weak league they dominate. That league won't allow that to continue for much longer. The rumblings are already beginning.
