Through the grapevine have heard St Charles, DeSales, and Minford. No idea if true are not, haven't asked anyone that would know for sure. Week 4 will be after the Week 3 West Jefferson home game next year.

All three would be great games Desales might bring former Ironmen Nick Smith. The Minford game would be a big crowd.

Maybe this thread should be re-titled?

Jackson isn't in the SEOAL?

I have created a thread specifically for Jackson Football now. You're welcome.

Since Athens is forced into playing another TVC opponent (River Valley) and can't play us, I'd like to pick up an equally tough game. A team like DeSales or St. Charles would be great. Thurgood Marshall has an opening in Week 4. Any of those games would be very difficult, but would be beneficial to the program.

Lol, Jackson is 1/4 of the SEOAL so we are entitled to 25% of the comment in the SEOAL thread :122245

I think the topic is about the future of the SEOAL in general. Great to hear the support for Jackson but I'm more optimisitc about the future of the League, that it will be a worthwhile title to claim.

I keep hearing from one of my sources that two schools have been invited, A West Virginia School and a TVC Ohio School, No further info is available at this time!

IF that's true then it would have to be Athens, Point Pleasant or Parkersburg.

Your guess is as good as mine, which is Parkersburg South and either Athens or Meigs!

Meigs and/or Vinton County as I have indicated before would be preferable over a Parkersburg area school and even Marietta from a driving perspective. A volleyball or baseball game at Warren is bad enough let alone Marietta or Parkersburg in the middle of a week.

But, I doubt there is any great desire by either VC or Meigs to make a move, even if there was an invitation extended. There does seem to be a desire by Marietta to move from there current league though, at least if you can believe some of the rumor mill over in Washington County.

Meigs used to be a SEOAL member, backed in the 70's and early 80's, up until 82 or 83 as I recall. They would be a great addition, but just not going to happen quite yet. It is up to the current SEOAL AD's to get out and explain to some of the schools why the SEOAL would be an asset to them and why they should make the move. Otherwise we are going to be a 4 school league. Which in football means 3 games (depending on the year only 1 or 2 of those home), and the other games will be mutli-team arrangements that last only a couple years at a time in a short contract. And some of those non-league games will result in small gates since some out of the area teams do not travel well.

If you think Friday night football gates have declined recently (Jackson has complained of this and it is not all related to winning), just wait till there is only 3 other league opponents and 7 non-league games. AD's have to get outside the box and market why the SEOAL is a better long term choice from a financial, competition, and community perspective. Sell the league...or sit back and reap the consequences or lack thereof.

Does Jackson, Gallia, Logan and Warren AD's have a common mission and desire to be proactive...or are we just resting on our laurels. Times have changed, our tactics have to change or we will be sitting here in a few years reminiscing about the good ole SEOAL that no longer exists.

In the TVC Ohio, VC's longest trip is Meigs. The rest are all 30 minutes or less. If VC jumped to the SEOAL, its CLOSEST game would be 30 minutes to Jackson/Logan. The rest would be much farther. Also, VC is still building its football program to where it once was. Joining the SEOAL would hurt that process. Basketball, Track, CC and most girls sports would be competitive, but the money maker (football) would struggle, as would baseball (immensely). Besides, VC takes pride in the fact they chartered the TVC (unlike some schools). If this were 1990, I would say VC might have interest...but its not the 90s anymore. I also think it would be in Meigs' best interest to stay put as well although I have no idea where they stand or how they feel about a possible move.
