All good points Dundas. Athens makes sense, but if you guys are ok with them in the TVC then they should stay.

Playing the "Devils Advocate" role to my above argument, one could also say the heck with it and the SEOAL simply remain a committed 4-school league. Fact is usually Logan, Jackson, Warren and Gallia in football will be competitive and travel well, keeping the gates reasonable, and the competition high amongst these teams.

That leads to smart non-league scheduling to maximize playoff points (I am keeping my example to football here) and also take into consideration the financial "gate" motives which simply cannot be discarded due to the condition of many SEO districts.

So, Jackson could schedule Minford, Wheelersburg, Valley, Chillicothe, Meigs, Ironton, Athens and throw in West Jefferson or a Logan Elm or Circleville perhaps every couple years or so. That would given them fairly local travel (usually equates to higher gate revenue, especially if the team is competitive, and all the teams mentioned are competitive), playoff points if you win as all those mentioned have winning seasons at least recently. Throw in a DeSales or St. Charles occasionally to further test the program even though they will not travel as well...usually just the parents of the players, not a community, but an opportunity to garner points and improve competition.

So, one could say heck with everyone else: We are the SEOAL and we don't need anyone but the core group, we will find a way to play quality non-league games and keep the gates high by selecting great schools.

That would be the flip side to my above post and argument...sort of a glass half-empty glass half-full thing I suppose.

Being an old Logan guy, I want to see the SEOAL survive. The league has always been long travel, even back in the beginning days. Retired in Marietta now and would love to see MHS back in. Also I'd like to see Parkersburg South. South isn't far off the RT50 bypass, it would only be 6/7 miles farther than going to Warren but 4 lane highway all the way for Logan & Jackson. About the same travel time as getting to Warren for all schools including Gallia. South could still play Parkersburg the last game of the year (tradition) since Ohio finishes a week earlier than WV. I think the SEOAL would be attractive to them with the travel they have now.

I can see the soc turning Jackson down but the TVC shocks me . Why wouldn't they wanna bolster their league. They drool over how strong Athens is but won't allow Jackson???

So is it possible that portsmouth can win the seoal and ovc in 2014-2015? That might be a first.

From the article this statement stands out as good news for Jackson/SEOAL: "It was ultimately decided to fully place the issue in the hands of league superintendents, who will form a group plan".

Even though our Supt. Phil Howard has a lot on his plate with running the district (and the 2013-2014 JHS Basketball Ironmen squad), he has an edge about him to get stuff done. I like the fact the ownership is with the Superintendents to make this work. If the top person in each school's district (Supt) is trying to figure this out for Logan, Jackson, Gallia, Warren, it means to be they recognize the importance of maintaining the league and what it represents. Not saying others weren't devoting quality time to the issue, just glad it has been "elevated".

Think now you will see some forward progress in sustaining the league, both short & long term. Good luck to Mr. Howard and the other supers, tough road ahead but sure they will figure it out.

Its going to be interesting to see what happens, that's for sure.

Jackson was voted down for the TVC about 5 years ago. If it came to a vote again, I think they would have a better shot of earning enough votes. Same goes for Warren.

I take mr. Howard on his word that Jackson will not apply for admission to the TVC, and I don't blame him. The TVC in its current state does nothing for Jackson. The SEOAL will survive , have no doubts

I was at a basketball scrimmage at gallia and talked to the Marietta coach. He said that he has been asking the higher ups for a year now to come back to the seoal. And he seemed pretty confident that it would happen. So I could see them and Parkersburg coming in...

I don't know if Mareitta was mentioned before, and I didn't feel like combing through the 18 pages of post to find out.

I am betting on the SEOAL folding and the remaining teams will join the TVC

I would split the division for school size if they did come
To the tvc.have a rotating schedule.

I don't know why the weak TVC wants the SEOAL teams. We have all heard how "far" away those places are and how Athens and others don't like to travel.

Can't see that happening.

Who plays in the new "big school" division in your scenario?

Take in the 4 SEOAL teams and split into four 5 team divisions. You could base it off travel or school size, or a mix of both. I think it could work out well for both leagues if this were to happen.

Based off of size and (somewhat) geography ..
A-Logan DII
Vinton Co. DIII
Jackson DIII
Athens DIII
Gallia DIV
B-Warren DIV
Meigs DIV
Alex DV
Wellston DV
River Valley DV
C-NY DVI
Fed Hock DVI
Belpre DVI
Wahama DVI
Trimble DVII
D- South Gallia DVII
Southern DVII
Eastern DVII
Waterford DVII
Miller DVII

Each division would have 1 non league game each week in the second half if the season. This making it easy to fill that hole with a team from the nearest division. Example, A fills their non league hole with B and C with D. Making it easy to schedule late in the season. You could also change these divisions with more emphasis on location. This is just my example based on school size.

Finding another league to take ALL SEOAL teams was last on the priority list. First was adding 1 or 2 teams. Don't look for all four schools to go to ANY one league. My guess is that the league superintendents will contact several schools and find a couple with an interest in joining, and present this to the rest of the group. Then 1 or 2 teams will be invited. They met on Wednesday, I bet some phone calls have already been made and they have 2/3 schools that may want in. We'll see....

That is the problem with people today. Instead of getting better they would just rather run to somewhere hey can compete. Travel will be bad again for them. Feel sorry or the kids
