And so did Marietta, Jackson, Gallia, Jackson, and Logan(outside of football). Logan and Zville dominated in football. Zanesville, Chillicothe(state champ), Portsmouth(state runner up), and Ironton blowing everyone out in basketball. Yes we got killed but so did the rest of the league in football and basketball

This winter they will play a district tournament team from last year in Logan Elm (D2) ... three games in Florida vs top notch competition ... they are playing Circleville (D2) ... they are playing defending state runner-up Akron St. Vincent St. Mary (D2) ... they have another big game vs Valley (D3) ... they have to travel to Warren (D2), a final four team from a year ago ... Athens is going to Ironton to play the Tigers ... taking on Propel School from Pittsburg ... and they still have two games versus Vinton County (D2) ... and two games vs Meigs (D2)

Thanks for proving my point 93, Why do they feel the need to expand out and play much tougher teams outside of conference?

Because Logan, Jackson and Gallia called up over the summer and said they were canceling?

BTW ... freedom to schedule basketball games is 1000 x easier ... football schedules are filled out a year or two in advance - and then you can never find a game weeks 6-through-10 because everyone is locked into league games.

Athens had a tough non conference when the schedule was created ... Gallia was a playoff team, Jackson was a playoff team (both teams had beaten Athens over the last two years) ... Watkins Memorial was a D2 team from Columbus playing in the OCC ... Warren was a D2 team that played Athens extremely close in 2011 and beat them in 2010 ... Fairland was a team they found in that week 5 date where the possible opponents shrinks dramatically (but they are a playoff team this year so it worked out.)

When the non-conference was put together - the schedule for Athens looked great - it just hasn't worked out that way ... who would have thought Jackson was going to slip? Gallia has been ravished with injuries. How does Warren go from a D2 playoff team to a D4 non factor is just two years? They couldn't have foreseen all that.

Another weak team that the bullpuppies should dominate!

Last year it was 77 to 13. Alex is worse and Athens is better from last year. Worst thing Alex can do is score. Don't wanna wake up the beast

2012 4-6

2010 8-3
2009 8-3

Good point on Arnos records those years above, out of those 27 wins in those 4 years, 6 I say 6, were against teams with winning records at the end of the season and most of them were TVC hocking teams going 6-4.

93,
Yes Athens was 3-2 a few years ago but you cannot ignore that the football team is going to go undefeated again in league play for the 2nd strait year, and next year. Volleyball will not lose a game in the league this year. Girls basketball has a 20 game league winning streak. Cross country and track are not even close to being challenged in league play since they came into TVC play. Will boys basketball lose a regular season game this year? I guess it is just great timing that talent came once they changed leagues, not because of playing inferior talent in smaller schools with a winning record.
You have to look at the athletes that Athens appears to have. Right now they have at least three Division I athletes in their school. Burrow is a DI QB and may well be a major recruit. Ibi Watson will be a big time basketball player, Dominic Doseck already has Division I offers, The girl the runs cross country very well may be a Division I cross-country athlete. It has less to do with one leg Athens is playing in and more to do with the kids in the school system at this time. Throw in kids like those two twins to play football basketball, the Williams kid will be a DI football player, and the Salzman kid that is an amazing run of athletes. Is any school in southeastern Ohio ever had this many Division I athletes at one time and all sports????

I say this all the time. This is one of the best offenses in the state. This made the Columbus news cuz of points and their video game stats And Burrow could be the first ever mr. football for SEO. He was 5th or 6th in voting last year. Say second this year and first his senior year

Best is from Athens in mid 60's

Todd synder played in the nfl and world football league
dick Adams play in the Canadian football league
Dave green 9 years nfl

a bunch of d1 players in those classes. Ik four linemen went major college. Notre dame, brown or Yale, Pennsylvania. I can't remember off the top of my head. Kid played basketball at Harvard. Too many to remember lol

I think that team has the highest point score ever in Athens history, 84. We were trying to figure it out at the game

The old Athens high school records ended in 1966. new high school started in 1967 so 83 would be the record

I'd say 77 at half is the highest ever in 100 years in the state. The highest scoring in a game are from 1900-1920

Guess its the highest and probably won't stand too long. Still funny to think, burrow through 20 less passes than the Alexander kid

These Athens kids are all Juniors. Yes I remember those Chillicothe kids, especially Skinner and Glowacki (sp), but you are speaking of 4 years, I am sayin in one class, and Edinboro is not DI, if you want to go 4 years, I believe there are 3 kids from Athens playing football at Ohio University and they had a kid finish 4th in the Olympic trials in the Shot who's a National Champion in the shot and had the 3rd best throw in the nation last year, and an all-American thrower last year in the Sindelar girl whow was also a State Champion. But the athletic ability at Athens right now is not over a 4 year period but rather a single class.

And I in no way mean to discredit or take away anything from those Chillicothe kids, as that is exactly what I am talking about, a rare run of athletes in the same groupings. Like Athens now, that time for Chillicothe was a golden era as well, as they had success in just about every sport.
