Re: columbus ready 98 washington court house 20
I absolutely applaud the post by Hawkeye Pierce!! At the same time, being one of the first to comment on this thread and having commented several times, I'm gonna scoot my soap box back up and add a little more lol
Over the years as a player, coach, father, fan, etc; I've been on both ends of this spectrum numerous times. I've had my arse handed to me figuratively and literally more times than I care to get into right now and I've been a part of some victorious spankings that have raised eyebrows. My personal feeling for myself, any teams I've ever represented/coached and my own children is simple...If I/we can't stop you, then by all means beat me/us down as you will!!! It's as much my responsibility (our responsibility) to stop you as it is yours to show whatever sportsmanship you see fit. However, know this: if you beat me/us down without regard, you better believe I/we will exercise whatever sportsmanship I/we see fit upon getting back up. And, believe me, I/we will get back up!!
That's not to say I believe in being the one to ALWAYS return the favor. It simply means I was raised to take a beating as fluidly as you give one. It's my/our job to get better and prevent said beatings. I think I was fortunate to have been raised in a large, competitive family with an older brother who passed his hard-nosed attitude off to me in the same manner he received it from our older cousins, uncles, parents, etc. I'm also a firm believer that that Darwin fella was on to something ;) Survival of the fittest. Basically I agree with Hawkeye, but as a grown man with a Type-A personality, it's also in my nature to defend the "under dog" so to speak. When I looked at the Ready-Court House game in the days leading up to it, I expected Ready to win comfortably. At the same time, I find it very difficult to believe the Knights 3rd strong kids are so superior to the Lions that they couldn't avoid hanging 98 points on them. Washington Court House is not a helpless team.
I could be dead wrong. And, I'm ok with that. I certainly don't have a dog in this fight and perhaps my reaction was a little out of line. Personally, I would relish the chance for Valley to play Ready...not because I'm guaranteeing a win, but because you have to want to chin up and face other "Alphas" so to speak ;)
By the way, I don't know Mike Bartrum real well, but I do know h through some mutual friends and the guy I know is a gracious man who is also a competitor (that personality trait might have something to do with his long professional career being do successful). I also don't have the right to defend his coaching decisions, as he is fully capable of defending himself far better than I ever could anyway.
Ok, sorry for the rant!! I'll get off my soap box now ;) lol

I hope OHIO never adopts any rule like that to have a coach fined or suspended for a high score. are we ready to go watch a team take 3 kneel downs and punt just cause they are winning big ?????
Re: columbus ready 98 washington court house 20
according to "another site" even the Court House fans admit their kids just gave up at half. Ready did have their JV in from what I've read. KEY WORDS: GAVE UP.

Pretty bad coaching on ready's part. Once u get up 35 to 0 after first quarter, u only run and start putting in JV in second quarter. That's the Athens way and ready is no better. But we at Athens have been on both ends. Did court house blow them out in the past?

Re: columbus ready 98 washington court house 20
In the famous words of bobby Bowden its my job all week to get my team ready its the other teams job to try and stop us. If the other team gives up and u coach yours to never quit regardless of score then this is what happens. As far a a bail out fine and suspension rule really sounds like someone might as well implement we just going to play and not keep score that way everyone wins and people wonder what has happened to AMERICA we use to teach to compete and be the best now we emphasize mediacracy and play to just have fun. If it was for fun they would never keep score. Also if your the coach that runs it up that's fine but b a man when its done to you remember this is a man's game not a woman's not a beruacrat a politician nor some extremist of fair play and equal opportunity grow up and take it like a man!
Re: columbus ready 98 washington court house 20
I have seen referees actually institute the running clock and it was mentioned at halftime of our game last night. It didn't get to the point of instituting it last night but officials have that option even though it isn't in the rule book.
It is a shame a team puts up 98 points and wins by 78 in a H.S. game.

Re: columbus ready 98 washington court house 20
I would have to agree that 98 points is way to much to put up on any team. With that said I also do not believe that you can tell your kids to lay down and play dead. I have seen Ready play and it is very possible that their second team can put up 42 points in a half. They could put up 40 on most southern ohio teams. Court House should have known what kind of program that Ready has and they just should not have scheduled them if they can't compete. I don't see any region 21 team that will come close to beating them in the playoffs. If they stay healthy I believe that Kirtland may be the only team that has a chance at beating them.
Re: columbus ready 98 washington court house 20
I talked to an official last night and we were talking about this game and he told me the state does not have a rule for a running clock. Certain leagues have a gentlemans agreement for a running clock, the officals don't make that decision.smurray wrote:I have seen referees actually institute the running clock and it was mentioned at halftime of our game last night. I know a person that was at the game and the varsity was in thru most of the third quarter. The kr for Ready was returning kickoffs into the 4th qtr. This kr was a transfer in from a local school to Ready. A 44 in the 40 yard kick returner. Doesn't your team usually have a jv or freshman that is capable to return kicks or punts? No one is saying to laydown, but just show some class.

Myles Fowler had a 99 yrd kick return for a touchdown that the score 91-14. He also had a 70 yrd touchdown run that was the first score of the 2nd quarter.
Here is the link to the box scores from the columbus dispatch. A lot of the same names scoring for three quarters.

Their first and second team is Taylor and Bailey at running back. Stock is their fourth running back (after Golden).
Of course, let's disregard the fact that Ready only threw one TD pass that was supposedly a crossing pattern. What do you expect a kid to do if he catches a bounced kick at the one yard line? Take a knee?
Re: columbus ready 98 washington court house 20
Yup and Taylor also scored in the 10th TD of the game which was in the 3rd quarter

I actually posted about the box score and the names in it on Friday night, but nobody seemed interested in talking about facts. Thank you for finally referencing the box score and posting a link. Maybe some others will actually look for themselves and add some details if they know of any.noles_fan wrote:Myles Fowler had a 99 yrd kick return for a touchdown that the score 91-14. Re: columbus ready 98 washington court house 20
If they're cycling in four or five different running backs by that point then who cares? (And I realize I said they threw only one TD pass, obviously that is wrong when I re-looked at the box score). Ready only has about fifty or so kids on the team, and most of them are linemen. I'm sure WCH had more kids on the team, so in terms of numbers and apparent physicality, there was no mismatch. Now talent and heart? Looks like Ready won that battle.noles_fan wrote:Yup and Taylor also scored in the 10th TD of the game which was in the 3rd quarter
Sounds like people on here are only interested in bashing the private school. Let's turn a blind eye that also on Friday night, a Columbus City League team beat another City League team 84-8 (AND WENT FOR TWO IN THE FOURTH QUARTER). Or a few years ago one of the burb schools beat the other 84-6. Blowouts happen.

FC Fan,
Personally, I'm not "turning a blind eye" at all. I hadn't seen the other scores you are speaking of. By all means, tell me about it. I'm not as interested in bashing anyone as I am in giving my honest opinion just as I would regardless of wether it was a public or private school, a school I support or don't support, etc.
