Valley 42 West 0
Re: WEST at VALLEY!!! Thoughts!?!?!
Recruiting for sure! The biggest battle coach Crabtree lost was to West! When Pendleton picked West over Northwest it was a tough one to get over.

No disrespect felt at all. I'm definitely an opinionated person, but I love getting input from others with a different perspective. Lord knows I wish I was right as much as I think I am a lot of the time ;) lollocal superstar wrote:No disrespect intended but I don't need my opinion changed. It has been formed over years and it is a good one. Just not as good as yours. Thanks Jesco buddy. Good Luck to both and may the underdogs win!

We've had a Portsmouth kid or two over the years as well.luvbigcats wrote:Don't think the 80's was a very good decade for Valley football either was it. Coach Crabtree and staff has done a great job building a very good program in their time there. They have also had a lot of help from other programs. You look back though the years and a lot of the top players on those teams have transfered from other schools mainly Northwest. I know they also had players from West, Minford, Notre Dame, Piketon and sure there is prolly some schools I'm missing. The question is are these kids wanting to go there or our they getting recruited to go there.
The 80's had some successful years actually, as Paul Miller was the winningest coach in Valley's history before Crabtree. I believe Miller had around 80 wins in his tenure, but would have to look at my notes to be certain on the specific number. Again, I'd have to look at the notes from what Crab's Bro and I compiled, but I don't think the Indians won more than 30 games in the entire 70's decade. It was pretty bad.

Re: WEST at VALLEY!!! Thoughts!?!?!
They came to West because their dad came to West to coach I believe. But it sure was great for us to get a pretty good coach and 2 outstanding football players. Almost forgot they had a cousin come with them and he was a good player also.Bo_Diaz wrote:Recruiting for sure! The biggest battle coach Crabtree lost was to West! Re: WEST at VALLEY!!! Thoughts!?!?!
Was he recruited to coach? Was he offered land on Dry Run? I know that all kids that come to Lucasville get a lot on Thomas Hollow. Although they are hoping to offer Breckenridge in the near future.

Arnett doesn't live at either place, still in McDermott I believe.

It's going to be another great night of football in Scioto County...Enjoy the contest! Be thankful you can attend, if you can....Regardless of what many believe, chat board comments won't decide the game and they mean dah-dah once the initial kickoff takes place...It's high school football, league play, etc....On any given night..........GO INDIANS!!

I know in the 80's Valley was one of the weakest teams on our schedule but I think we quit playing in 89 I believe. I think that's cool you guys doing the history of Valley football.Jesco White wrote:We've had a Portsmouth kid or two over the years as well.luvbigcats wrote:Don't think the 80's was a very good decade for Valley football either was it. Re: WEST at VALLEY!!! Thoughts!?!?!
luvbigcats, thanks, we had a lot of fun researching it all and learned quite a bit about the entire area along the way as well as Valley's history. If I remember correctly, I think you're right about when the series between West and Valley stopped. And, you're definitely right about Valley being one of the weakest teams on the West schedule in those days. I think there were either three or four years in a row when Valley entered their game with West at 4-0 in the mid-80's only for West to win each game. It seems like only one of those games was actually close.

If you are right and Valley beats West wow will we never hear the end of your bragging! haha. Like someone else stated, Valley is supposed to win. Wouldn't ever wanna see you encouraging to a team that could win.
Again, back to the subject.

1989 west 27-6
87, 88, 90 West entered undefeated
89, had a season opening loss at home to Ironton
