After a tough loss to Lancaster, Logan will look to bounce back against Teays Valley.

Teays Valley recorded a resounding 52-22 win over perennial playoff team Westfall.

Hopefully several of the players who missed all or a big chunk of the Lancaster game will be back for Logan.

Logan and Teays Valley have never played before and Friday will see 4 LHS graduates inducted into the LHS Athletic Hall of Fame (Sue McBroom, Jim Redd, Tami Hampshire, and Matt Mong).

With Logan being so beat up with injuries after the Lancaster game I hope they can keep it close.

I thought Logan played well at the beginning of the Lancaster game. I don't think they would have beat the Gales but could have kept it a lot closer with a more solid 2 deep roster. Against Larger schools it seems teams like Logan have very comprable 1st team players but when you have to start rotating in back ups the talent level starts to really drop off.

If Logan can get all their starters back and stay healthy the rest of year I don't see why they couldn't be in every game they play the rest of the season.

Let's be honest! Lancaster is just to big, to strong, to fast and to good! Need to drop them and pick up a school more inline with our school size! Enough of that, This will be a more competive game, look for Kost to start and play well at QB. and I feel this game is winnable!

After a decade of football success against all comers, I believed Logan had achieved a level of performance that allowed it to outgrow it's SE Ohio confines. I thought this mainly because Logan's size and population base raised it above the typical "cycles" of generational athletes. Not that it would always be dominant but that it could always win in it's own backyard. Recent years have convinced me, at least, that this is not the case. I think Logan IS in a down cycle. I do appreciate the fact that discipline was down also the last three years but clearly the level of athleticism hasn't been there, either. I DO think Logan can compete with larger schools, just not on a year- in, year-out basis. Waiting on the next Angles, Mays and Russells (not to mention Potters, Fryes and others) to step up.

Agree it is time to look at an alternative to Lancaster. Not only is it tough to start 0-1 every year, but its a game that I'm not sure our coaches and players can learn much from.

I think there are a load of alternatives to Lancaster in that opening week that can provide a combination of competition and $$$ at the gate.

Now that Chillicothe is out of the league I would think they could be an option in the non-league as well as Canal Winchester and Bexley (coached by LHS grad John Smith).

The list above has some good options as well and I would add Hamilton Township as well. We caught them at their absolute low point (and a high point for us) but think it could be competitive.

I have said so many times here that I didn't like Lancaster on the schedule. Still don't. Lancaster at one time had 3 Jr. Highs feeding its varsity. That's stupid to try to compete with. There are lots of D-I and D-IIs that make much better sense to compete with. Some have been listed here. We played Bexley when I played and was a competitive game. Chili is good too. TV coming up should be a competitive game over the years. As for the cycle of athletes, I never buy into that thought. Logan has always had kids who could play. If you had enough was always a question but that takes you back to the schedule again. Keeping a competitive schedule is the major reason it looks bad. Everyone can expect a down year here or there but the last three were total embarrassment. Logan should always be a competitor in the SEOAL and depending on who is on the non-league schedule, be competitive there too depending on when you catch teams with some of their best years. With a break, Newark should have been a win. TV is in Logan's competition. Zanesville should be competitive over time. I don't like the game but N-Y is historically a lopsided match up win over time. And , frankly, folks I talk with say Logan has recently been a program with less discipline that takes away Logan's ability to compete. If the discipline is there and the schedule competitive, Logan will win games most years because they have athletes.

When we are beating the likes of Zanesville and the SEOAL like drums again, the cry will be we aren't playing the caliber of teams we need to. Who here who pulls for Logan wants to see us open with New Lexington every year again? If not Lancaster, they need to be replaced by equal level competition. I don't think many of us would have made this argument after 2009. Go read all our posts from then.

Logan might win 2 out of 10 games thru the years vs Lancaster, Dazed I agree, we must open with a team of equal size and competition. Getting our team beat up is just plain stupid!

D&C -

I've said since about 2006 that Logan needed to be able to beat Lancaster 3-4 times out of 10 to keep them on the schedule. After '09 I said "lets see if we can find 1-2 more wins in the next 4 years."

Logan has really only been competitive 4 times out of the 9 meetings; the first two games and the two Logan won. Every other game has been a lopsided Lancaster win.


And to be fair, New Lex was not such a bad season opening opponent. Remember that N-L beat a playoff bound Logan team in 1999 (their only regular season loss) and in 2001 a 10-0 Logan team had to scratch and claw to a 13-12 win.

But agree that finding the right mix in a replacement for Lancaster is important.

Logan has 6 non-league games to schedule right now, here is who I'd look at to fill those spots:

I'd agree with your list, Locos, except for N-Y. Never liked that game . Athens is the game I'd get. $$$$$$$ game, near-by and in the competitive level & division. N-Y has been a historical loser to Logan, just as Logan has been a loser to Lancaster. Its a mismatch. Its possible to get a lot of D-I and D-IIs from Central Ohio in non-league games that are competitive. Long term, Logan's future is not in SEO. Its north. While much of SEO will continue to bleed people in losing populations, so will the schools creating even bigger gaps in the SEOAL. Not Logan's fault, but we need to play a schedule that keeps the competition at around a D-II level where we can. Logan will go back to the playoffs again, much sooner than many realize and they have to be ready. As to the player situation again, some didn't come out this year. The QB is out with injury. Lancaster is not the gauge I'd use to predict the season. I still see many competitive games ahead. And D&C, we have athletes this year. Lets see how competitive they are in games beyond a Lancaster. That's game tells me nothing. They won't be the teams of Angle and others, but should be improved over the wreck of the last 3 years. With a competitive schedule, they are NOT far from playoffs because there are players at Logan. Getting them out and staying healthy in a turn around program will surprise some folks.
