As far as lucasville valley goes I think HItops has put it best

We are coming off back to back SOC II championships ...12-1 in 2011 and 12-1 last yr and 3rd round of playoffs in 2011 got beat by bucyrus wynford regional semis and last yr getting beat by Liberty union In regional semis
We have approximately 18 srs 8 jrs 18 so and i have know idea on freshmen this year
All of the seniors have been major contributors since they were freshmen and our sophmore group have been very successful and several started as freshmen last yr and in various roles
We graduated only 9 seniors from last yrs team
We are replacing : quarterback/corner, center, 2 linebackers( out and inside ) and our off and def tackle and defensive end that were our 6 senior starters last yr

our skill positions are top notch and deep our line is not huge but long and can get leverage and they have good feet everyone here is looking forward to the season

From the looks of things, Valley, CG, and Oak Hill should definitely all be in the playoff mix in this region. It really looks wide open.

I think valley is almost a given this year but there is some pretty tough teams still. Newark catholic bishop ready nelsonville York all should be in every year. I think coal grove will be the team left out. I don't know a lot about most the teams in the region since this is the first year of the realignment.

Bellaire is a new addition to Region 21 and I will try to give some insight what to expect. Bellaire finished the 2012 season at 8-2. They return All Ohio quarterback Spencer Badia, 3001 passing yards and 24 touchdowns, plus 5 rushing yards before suffering a torn acl in playoff loss. Also returning, the entire receiving corp lead by All Ohio Nick Patrone 66 receptions 1012 yards. Badia enters this season with over 5,600 yards in the air.

Three O linemen return 240, 265 and 275, The two new linemen are seniors at 190 and 330. Two seniors that started on defense at 210 will spell on the o line.

Lost to graduation are both inside linebackers and running back. D tackle who was also first team All State place kicker.

I am not going to take the time to format all the schedules here, but I will be posting week to week updates on this region on this topic.

Week 1 was rough on Region 21 as only 9 teams won their openers. It is very early to be talking playoffs, but there are a few teams that need to get in the win column quick or they will find themselves behind the 8-ball come the end of October. A couple of teams that were considered to be favorites to make the playoffs before the season started need to get wins this week. Looking at future schedules, it looks like Nelsonville, Bellaire, and Coal Grove need to get wins this week. Nelsonville has Newark Catholic this week and with Athens waiting down the road, there are not many points left in the other 7 games. Bellaire still has Shadyside, St. Clairsville, and Martins Ferry, so a loss this week and Bellaire may need to pull an upset down the road to get back into the playoff talk. Coal Grove has back to back games against strong SOC teams and if they start 0-3 their playoff hopes may be shot.

Region 21 Week 2 schedule:

Centerburg @ Lucas
Alexander @ Oak Hill
Valley vs Van Buren (@ Hilliard Darby)
Columbus Academy @ Ready
Fort Frye @ Belpre
Ridgewood @ Waynedale
Colonial Crawford @ Northmor
Barnesville @ Meadowbrook
Bellaire @ John Marshall (WV)
Bexley @ Berne Union
Caldwell @ Buckeye Trail
Buckeye Central @ Cardington-Lincoln
Crooksville @ Bishop Rosecrans
Coal Grove @ Wheelersburg
East Knox @ Utica
Federal Hocking @ Waterford
Danville @ Fredricktown
Grandview Heights @ Minford
Manchester @ Huntington
Shadyside @ Monroe Central
Nelsonville @ Newark Catholic
River @ Bishop Donahue (WV)
Newcomerstown @ Shenandoah

The regions down 6 and 7 win teams will get in. Belpre and Fort Frye have shots at playoffs. Fort Frye will be hurt by Shenandoah , RoseCrans, Connotton Valley, and Waterford.

Although a little subpar, the Bellaire offence wasn't the problem. The problem was turnovers (5) and atrocious tackling. You are correct, Bellaire's back is against the wall and a win this week is a must.

The region is not great but 6-7 win teams getting will be a stretch. Just looking down the list here is what I see....

Oak Hill should win 8
Ready should win 9
Valley should win 8-10
Newark Catholic should win 7-8
Monroe Central should win 8-9
Fort Frye should win 8-9
Belpre should win 7-8

There are others that I don't know much about that will win a fair share of games. 7 wins for a few teams will work, but outside of NC I don't see 6 being enough in this region.

Monroe Central lost to Union Local. UL finished last season 1-9 and wasn't expected to do that well this season as the starting qb and top receiver opted not to play this season. MC plays Shadyside this week and are a huge underdog.
