Ironman92.....Actually, Wade Barney of VC needed a 21-4 just to make the finals.
He fouled on his first two attempts.
Congrats to all state placers from the SE District.

I just saw that 20'11 finished 9th.....how did he need 21'4 to get to the finals? The long jump page is a nightmare to read on my phone though

Re: State Track Meet....Podium
You are going to have to explain my error keyser because I'm not seeing it other than I put he jumped 21'4 1/2 on his 3rd jump whereas he jumped 21'4.....also I errored by saying he needed 20'11 to qualify for the finals.....
I went back and broke down the event. He was in the 1st flight and he was the 7th jumper of 8. His first two fouls were putting him against the wall but he couldn't know what he needed on his 3rd jump other than something at least near 21 feet. He and Travonte Junius were the only 2 of the first 7 jumpers to make the top 9, which of course is the final group.
Using both flights he was T-14th after the 1st and 2nd jumps....but after his 3rd jump he immediately jumped into 5th place....by the end of round 3 of jumps he was in 7th as a 21'6 and a 21'4 1/2 followed him later that round.....after 3 jumps 21'1 was 9th and in the finals.....so technically he needed 21'1 1/4 to advance and he went 21'4.
Regardless, it is an outstanding achievement and espicially for a sophomore boy. He very well represented his school, league and district!

Ironman92....As I read the baumspage page, his third jump was the 21-4.
His 5th jump was the 21-4 1/2.
Fouled on the first two and then his fourth overall jump.
Your only error was saying he needed 20-11 to qualify for the finals.
He needed not to foul on that 3rd jump was really the point I was trying to make.
Hope that clears it up.

Re: State Track Meet....Podium
Yeah....I read the 20'11 as 9th place on that cluttered page.
He didn't need 20'11 or 21'4.....but 21'1 1/4

Yeah the long jump isn't the easiest page to read.

Re: State Track Meet....Podium
His 21'4 jump placed him 3rd in his flight. Going into the finals he was 7th overall. There were two guys just ahead of him at 21' 4 1/2. In the finals on his 2nd jump in the finals, he jumped 21' 4 1/2, which tied him with the other two, but his second best jump of 21'4 was good enough to move him into 5th at the time. However, the jumper who was in 8th going into his final jump jumped 21'11 1/4 to move from 8th to third, which moved Wade back down to 6th.
Wade did foul on his first two attempts. The second of which was his best jump of the day and most likely a 22' jump. Unfortunately, the tip of his shoe was just barely over the edge of the board. To Wade's testament, he was able to compose himself and focus to get a good jump in on his final attempt.
In a touch of irony and maybe some poetic justice, last week at the regional meet Wade and the regional winner (Speelman from Lisbon Beaver) tied with the longest jump, but Speelman beat Wade on his second jump by an inch and a half. Oddly enough at the state meet, they tied again, but this time at at 21'4 1/2, but Wade's second jump of 21'4 was a quarter of an inch longer than Speelman's second best jump, which was 21'3 3/4.
Wade is a great kid and has made us look good.

Only a sophomore makes this even more impressive. I expect you to get him in the state 100 and 200 and close to 23 feet. Lol Good luck coach and enjoy!coach k wrote:His 21'4 jump placed him 3rd in his flight. Going into the finals he was 7th overall. There were two guys just ahead of him at 21' 4 1/2.
