Thinking the edge goes to Bulldogs...only because least amount of distractions, same coach, same system, first game of the year so gotta think Athens has slight advantage...less than a touchdown difference.

This game will come down to if Gallia Academy is ready to go week 1 under a new coaching staff... If they are i like the blue devils in a high scoring game. If not it will be Athens but not by a lot.

Athens could maybe get to 48 but the question is can we stop anyone? This new defense still has a lot to prove for me to be really confident this season. The dogs have the horses to go 10-0, but if this group takes a while to gel on defense and the offense isn't sharp early, it could turn into a 7-3 or 6-4 type of year in the blink of an eye.

I'm sorry A-Town 2 ... but with the schedule Athens has and the amount of talented skill players up and down the roster ... it's almost impossible to lose 4 games man.

I know 4 loses is a big stretch 93. I exaggerated a bit but I was trying to make the point that there are many questions with this new group and while many people around think they are going to breeze through the season there a some loses on the schedule if this group doesn't come together as fast as we hope they will. ;-)

I'm sure you mean the 'coming together' is about the defense, right A Town 2? Cause the offense is absolutely stacked, and with Burrow at QB, will not have many problems in that regard.

I think there are enough 'athletes' for coach Goodwin to piece together a pretty solid D ... if you just start with Alex Goldsberry, Bryce Graves, Freddie Stalder, Trey Williams, Dakota McFee, Troy Stalder ... you already have a descent unit in place and that's just talking about some holdovers from last year ... I'm sure there are kids that have worked hard in the weight room and are ready to make an impact this season that we don't even know about yet ... I'm sure there is a sophomore or two that will emerge (like Graves and Colter Thompson did last season).

For whatever reason, coach Goodwin gets overlooked every year for the job he does ... the 9-1 team defense with Vinny Rider was awesome ... the 10-0 team defense was awesome ... even last year the adjustments they made after the Watkins Memorial game was impressive and the D ended up being very good ... I fully expect the same this year just going on his and the coaching staffs track record.

I honestly believe this game won't be decided until the 4th quarter much like the game last year. I believe this game will stay within a score for much of the game and I wouldn't be shocked if either team pulled off the win. If you remember last year Athens had the ball near mid field with 3:00 or so minutes left with a chance to tie the game but GAHS cashed in on a couple of late turnovers to make the margin much wider than the on field competition really was. I think both of these teams have a shot at being really good again this season but both also have some holes to fill due to graduation and we likely won't really know how good either is for a few weeks.

Last year was a bit of a score fest also and Athens came up on the short end of that encounter. Again Athens has many questions on Defense and Gallia is running a spread Offense this season so only time will tell.

I agree with O&B about this game boys. Athens by a bunch. They remember last year, They know their offense and execute it very well, and they do reload. GA is trying to reload with a new Coach and a new offense. Once GA's kids grasp old Bart's offense they will be fine, but it aint gonna be in week one.

Hype it all you want. Athens will win this thing early and often. As they will all of their regular season games. Also a lock to win 2 playoff games at a minimum, and with some luck , who knows. Burrow and his skilled offensive guys are the real deal. And there is more to that team than just them. Unchallenged until 2nd round or 3rd round of playoffs.
