Should be an exciting and fun year to watch. Are there any of last years JV players that might surprise us this year? They don't get a lot press - won all of there games last year - hoping to see one or two really excel to add to a really loaded team.

Re: Warren Warriors 2013-2014
In my opinion that'd be 6'2" Junior Blake Kidder and 6'0" Junior Aaron Mazurkiewicz . Kidder is athletic and strong. Nice jumper and pretty good speed. Can jump really well and his on the ball defense is decent. Mazurkiewicz plays "lockdown D" aggressive with a good basketball IQ but doesn't look to score much at all. BOTH woulda played Varsity for pretty much any other team in SEAOL or the TVC last season Warren was "guard heavy" so the youngsters Kidder and Mazurkiewicz and Henthorn didn't see much PT for the varsity. I feel that ALL 3 kids will contribute this season. Of the 3 Kidder has the most upside. He will take and knockdown open shots. Teams that OVERPLAY French, Hall and Patton will quickly rethink that gameplan. He can get to the rim but like most young players will get better finishing as he gains experience.ToeStubber01 wrote:Should be an exciting and fun year to watch. As far as the season goes like any other team that loses quality SENIOR LEADERSHIP, the success of replacing that key ingredient will be the biggest factor in a successful 2014 Warren Warrior season.

Re: Warren Warriors 2013-2014
Today the Warriors squared off against NY in the Warrior Dome for the seasons 1st scrimmage. As can be expected both teams were tight but both squads played hard and competed.
Warren won all 4 quarters that the varsity teams played. Scores of 22-7, 16-9, 26-18 and 15-6.
The usual suspects of French, Hall and Patton all played well but Blake Kidder made his presence felt on both ends of the floor. Nice jumper and took the ball to the rim with authority several times. The junior showed the ability to defend several different positions. He also had a beautiful lob pass off a back screen that Hall ended with a thunder dunk! Not the usual Warrior offense.

I'm excited to see this year's version of the Warriors (even if it's just in scrimmage form) at Unioto on Friday. I know Minford will be missing their top player, but it should still be a good 3 team scrimmage all around.

Warren, Unioto and Minford are ALL in PFloyd's Elite 8 so your correct this should be a dandy scrimmage. This scrimmage will test each team and allow the coaches see EXACATLY where their team stands as we approach the beginning of the season.danicalifornia wrote:I'm excited to see this year's version of the Warriors (even if it's just in scrimmage form) at Unioto on Friday. Rumor has it that Valley will be the Warriors opponent at Marietta in the 21st. That one should be a dandy. Valley should be considered one of favorites for the Regionals in Division 3.

Here's a short interview WTAP did on the recent signing of French to West Lib for all who are interested.

Re: Warren Warriors 2013-2014
Good weekend of basketball for the Warriors as this past Friday they traveled to Chillocothe to play in a tri scrimmage with Minford and host Unioto. On Saturday morning the Warriors hosted Cambridge.
On Friday at Chilly started off a little slow on the defensive end but after some adjustments were made the Warriors got back to the tuff physical Warrior basketball we know and love. The coaching staff spent plenty of time coaching technic as well as stratagy. Substuting freely but with purpose. Looking a different combinations and using the end of each period to teach and coach late game action. Paying attention to these small details pays off huge come March. Regardless of score Warren exacuted plays and used stratagy as time was winding down. Some coaches have the team slow the ball the last 3 min and play to WIN the quarter. Which does nothing for late game prep.
At Chilly the Warriors in total score(I hate this standard for scrimmages) lost to Unioto 64-60 in 4 quarters of action. Playing against Minford the Warriors out scored the Falcons 39-27 in 2 quarters of play.
On Saturday the Warrios welcomed the Cambridge Bobcats to the Warriors dome. Playing with a running clock the teams played 2 halves. The Warriors winning each by 5-7 points. Cambridge had a fantastic guard Jordan Watson that just was a hand full. At times unguardable. With coaching and stratagy the Warriors slowed him enough to pull ahead and maintain the lead till the horn sounded.
Warrior of the Day - Blake Kidder
The 6'2" Junior showed that he can score the basketball at the varsity level. Nice jumper and can take the ball off the bounce and get to the rim. In the quarters Kidder scored in the 10-14 point range. Half of that production on a nightly basis will play well in Warriorland smart kid that rarely forced the plays and seems to understand the concept of "letting the game come to you". Another great thing about the emergence of Kidder shows how the Coaching staff develops kids and the cubbord won't be bare when French & Patton are gone.
The sign that you have a PROGRAM is when your able to replace great players like a Hebb, Fivecoat, Cunningham, Venham, Ward, Knost, Patton or French. The names go on but Warrior basketball forever endurs. That's what the good programs do. That's what Coach Maddox and the Warren community have built
Just because Warren is talented some think they may be "soft" . Well I've NEVER seen a Maddox coached team that's wasn't physical.

Re: Warren Warriors 2013-2014
The Warriors are going to find out rather quickly where they stand among the state's elite DII power basketball teams. Starting on Dec 10th and finishing Dec 30th, the Warren Warriors will play 6 strait games that will be barn burners. Portsmouth comes calling on the 10th then the Warriors must put on the road gear 4 consecutive games. At Fort Frye on the 14th, At DIV State Semifinalist Fairfeild Christian Academy on the 17th, Lucasville Valley @ Marietta College on the 21st, At Defending DII State Champion Cols Bishop Waterson on the 23rd and finally back at the Warrior Dome to play WV AAA Wheeling Park on the 30th.
What a gauntlet of games for the Blue & White to circumnavigate. Great for getting the team ready for long run of tournament basketball.

Be rooting on Athens tomorrow night Bulldog. If it wasn't for the foundation game I'd be up in Logan but I'm sure you'll provide some great unbiased radio commentary haha!
