Re: 2013 Vinton County Vikings
They are getting better. Still like to see more kids on the team but they are getting better. Anyone know the schedule yet?

Re: 2013 Vinton County Vikings
If I were in charge at VC - I would do my best to create a schedule that was more in tune with a rebuilding program ...
playing Bloom-Carroll, Harvest Prep, Gallia Academy, Piketon ... and you also have Athens and Nelsonville-York already locked in ... ?

Not sure about improvement if you are going to measure it in wins. Maybe by increased numbers and success at the lower levels.
I ask simply . . . who are they going to beat on that schedule? Wellston won't be very good (4-6 or 5-5 at best) but they have beaten VC pretty good the past few years. So, who do they beat?

Re: 2013 Vinton County Vikings
VC was extremely young last year. Sophomore quarterback, freshman running back, BOTH outside linebackers were freshman just to name a few positions. I have seen QB Andy Long recently and he has done nothing but work since the season ended. He reminds me alot of former standout QB Chris Bethel. There will also be a few "fresh" faces coming out for this years team that will step in and make a difference. The schedule is tough, no doubt, but I think the Vikes can have a break out year. Time will tell.

Piketon graduated 18 seniors from last years squad. They return several jrs and sophs who saw time but they will be down from last year. This is year 5 for the Piketon/VC game, and believe Piketon leads 3 wins to 1.

Re: 2013 Vinton County Vikings
I would like to see VC more competitive also. Their non league schedule looks tough, but if they could get a win in the first 5 games they POSSIBLY could get 2 wins in the league. But I think they will have a better chance in beating Meigs and Alex this year than anyone else IMO. If they can build around the long and ousley kid with an improved Line, I could see a 3 win season for the Vikes.
Re: 2013 Vinton County Vikings
Its way to early to predict things like number of wins. You can really only go off of last years results but that doesn't take into account the players lost/gained or improvement. Solely based off of last year, I think VC will be competitive in at least 5 games. That's not saying they go 5-5, but its a higher number of "competitive games" heading into spring than I believe I've given them in quite some time. This team will be much better than last year and the soon to be junior and sophomore classes are capable of leading VC to a breakout season.

Re: 2013 Vinton County Vikings
I like what I see in the parking lot outside the fieldhouse! Lots of cars! This years Vikings team, to me, remind me of the 2003 team that shocked the world by going 6-4 after 5 wins in the previous 3 seasons. Its setting up nicely for this team to have success.vctransplant wrote:Hold on to your hats. The Vikes are coming. They will shock some people this year! You heard it here 1st. I knew hw had a pretty decent arm last year. Is he throwing the ball well this year? Who is their receivers?Dundas wrote:I got a good look at qb Andy Long today...my oh my. That's all I can say.
Re: 2013 Vinton County Vikings
Blue.. Long and "fresh face" Max Ward (along with a few returnees) were playing some pitch and catch. And by pitch and catch I mean a 50 yard dart in stride. This kid is HUGE compared to last year with from what I saw, a very accurate arm for a soon to be junior. Very premature, but the league better not underestimate this team...
