Seems like a nice 3 way at Piketon to start the year

Paint Valley sweeps Vinton County 16-0 and 8-3

Huntington sweeps Portsmouth Clay 15-0 and 31-9

Logan Elm sweeps Adena 9-8 and 9-4. Not a great way to start the 2nd-post Ed Yates era for the Warriors.

Circleville sweeps Chillicothe 5-4 and 7-2.

Peake should be much improved this year despite starting 5 Sophomores and 2 Freshmen.

The best league in SE Ohio goes 5-7 on opening day, with Unioto losing to 2 quality opponents and SE/Adena getting swept as well. 1-7 could make a push to reach the districts this year and any of 4 teams could take the crown, IMO. 2 of those didn't play today.

Before that's questioned: in the past 5 years, the SVC has sent schools to the regionals 8 times (Adena 3, Piketon 2, Unioto 2, Westfall/Zane Trace 1) while SOC2 has also sent 8(Wheelersburg 5, Valley 2, Waverly). SOC2 is better at the top, but the SVCs depth is astounding.

Unioto has went to the regionals the last 2 years, neither time winning the league, and actually finished 5th last year. Piketon has also been the last two years without winning the league.

Did some more research: TVC Hocking has 9...but only 1 is outside of D4.

Vinton County took one on the chin in the first game of the double header. Only a few of the 16 runs PV scored were earned. I do believe the Vikings only had one hit in the 16-0 defeat. Vikes missed several fly balls and made numerous errors, which led to run after run. The young Vikes seemed very nervous to start the season. The second game was better played than the first, but once again errors led to the majority of Paint Valley's 8 runs. The last three innings of the game were definitely the highlight of the the day for the Vikes as they shut down PV with solid defense and no runs. The result was a 8-3 decision for PV. The Vikings have only 3 upper classmen on the team, with over half the team being freshmen this year. Gonna have some ups and downs, but looking forward to a decent team forming this season. Good luck Vikings!!

That would be nine trips to the Regionals for the SVC. You added wrong Dani. LOL

I'm blaming it on it being a late night, LOL. Thanks for the adjustment though.

If you go back 6 years I have the TVC Hocking with 11. Maybe 93 Bulldog can back me up on this. I had a hard time finding how many regional trips Federal Hocking has made in that time.

Nelsonville's new infield is going to be very nice. Thanks to Wayne, staff and players for working so hard to get it ready to play.
