Anybody else check out the Red & White scrimmage?

I was pretty enouraged overall by what I saw from the Ironmen. VERY young team, which will be good for next year, but I think they can be good this year too. Rafferty and Crabtree were very impressive running the football. Looks like there might still be a spot up for grabs on the O-line. I'm not that familiar with some of the kids...who were #65 and #77 that rotated in and out at left tackle? Also, who was #9 that played WR? I think I recognized everyone else.

Seems like the defense has plenty of guys that rotate in. Coach Hall always likes to have a fast, aggressive defense, and he has just that. Some bigger bodies can rotate in on short yardage situations. Looked like Reagan Williams was playing some DE in addition to ILB. Seems like they might move him around a little, which will be a nightmare for opposing offenses to account for in preparation.

How is Griffiths doing with his rehab? With guys like Rafferty, Sexton, Parana, Crabtree, and Humphreys all capable of playing in the backfield in some capacity, it'll be interesting to see what type of combinations Coach Hall uses once Gabe returns.

Also, since I'm not too familiar with many of the kids, who are the seniors who are expected to be key contributors? Off the top of my head, I can only think of Parana as a senior who will be starting on both sides of the ball.

O-Line needs work, lots of work. I seen guards pull and the defense coming right through. The line is also not sticking with their blocks. #46 looks like he hits the holes pretty good.

Got there in time to see the second round of the scrimmage, missed the Oklahoma drills and the first part of the scrimmage. But saw the frosh/JV and then the last round of Varsity scrimmaging.

Offensive line gonna be a work in progress definitely. The bad news we are small on the line (small everywhere actually), the good news a lot of the players being asked to play there are pretty athletic kids I believe. So all us old-timers that are used to a ground and pound "Ironman" football may see some different offensive philosophies this year in the run game, we will just have to wait and see I suppose. Perhaps some traps, pulling guards and sweeps, some misdirection with option read, maybe some QB out of the pistol...I just think the running game will be different than "Here we come you can't stop us off-tackle" that we all are kind of used to.

But I bet the coaching staff will have solutions, and they and the kids will work hard no doubt, and usually when you focus on strengthening a "weakness" results start to happen and who knows maybe they will find a mix up front that is extremely effective.

Defensively, we are fast (young but fast) in about every position and I think we really may surprise some people. This week and next with the scrimmages will be the real test and we will start to see what we got and I for one am really looking forward to watching them play.

I haven't been around Jackson for awhile so I don't know if there's still any hype about football season. But I'm gonna have to say there isn't because of the size of this thread. Only two pages is pathetic they usually run well over ten is the motivation gone or are we just nothing to talk about this year? I'd like to know either way ill still be making the 10 hour drive from sc Friday before the game to show my support. GO RED!

Should start to be some chatter after that scrimmage against Court House, pretty impressive I thought. Not certain what Washington CH has this year but defensively we are solid and offensively Rafferty and Crabtree both ran well. Rafferty carried the ball with a lot of "attitude". On defense LB and line play was fast and athletic stuffed about all their run plays. We keep working hard and we gonna surprise some teams.

Okay Ironmen faithful, riddle me this: Which of the following teams will Jackson "upset" this year? West Jefferson, Athens, Wheelersburg, Greenfield MCClain or Gallia Academy. And will they drop one to someone they are "supposed to beat", let me read your predictions lol.

Can anyone tell me what Jackson has for an offensive line? And what their abilities and skill level are?

No doubt in all 10 games that we will field the smallest line in size or stature of every opponent. Not certain but think there is only one senior, 2-3 juniors and probably 2-3 sophomores. Saw the end of Coirt House scrimmage and most of NY scrimmage and what is lacking in size they seem to be making up for in other ways. Don't think we will butter our bread on downhill in between tackles, but some traps, misdirections and sweeps/jets will be most of our success. Be interesting to see if given our size they start to wear down late in game against bigger opponents.

Jackson will be hurting for size but that doesn't mean too much. I remember the 1964 Logan team had one boy on Offense that was 200 or over and only two on defense.
