Jackson petitions to join the SOLO
Jackson petitions to join the SOLO
I heard the league is still looking for its first and only member. Jackson would seem to be the perfect fit. I just wonder what they will do with all those laegue trophies......

Re: Jackson petitions to join the SOLO
Understand why the TVC is afraid of Jackson but never ever thought the SOC2 would backed down to Jackson.
Wheelersburg = Skeered
West = Skeered
Valley = Skeered
Minford = Skeered
Waverly = Skeered
So what that they are Division 3, it's southeastern ohio people!!
Better competition will only make the SOC2 better in the long run.

That is only true if a program has lots of other factors already aligned in its favor (coaching, administrative support). Otherwise, it can just lead to a bunch of bad defeats and a death spiral for a middle-of-the-road or worse program.
Jackson would beat 'Burg, West, and Valley more years than not on the basis of numbers alone.
Re: Jackson petitions to join the SOLO
Keep in mind that all 16 teams in the SOC would get to vote on this. For football, it would be an easy drop in to the SOC2, but not so much in other sports.
Basketball/Baseball/Softball - there could be a change in divisions for some teams such as South Webster or Valley. The other SOC1 schools would likely be against adding a tougher team into their division and the teams that could potentially be moved would be against this as well
Boys Soccer - SW has been hoping to get to move to the SOC2 for competitive reasons, but the addition of Jackson would ensure they wouldn't be going anywhere and would likely force one of the SOC2 teams down to the SOC1, which would not be favorable to Clay, NB, or Valley.
Girls Soccer - Jackson has a much more mature program than the SOC teams and would be a cake walk to the SOC title most years. This is one sport where Jackson would be hurt from being in the SOC because they would end up with a big decrease in strength of schedule.
So why would the SOC schools vote to accept another school that would potentially cause re-alignment of divisions of several sports. The sport that would probably cause the least disruption would be football and that just happens to be the sport in which Jackson has the best overall program. Would the SOC or Jackson consider having a football only membership? I don't know if that is possible, based on the way the SOC constitution is written today, but it seems like the tone of the Jackson AD in some articles I have read is that the goal is to allow their athletes to compete for league titles and individual honors within a league. This would only be partially accomplished by Jackson being a football-only member of the SOC.

Re: Jackson petitions to join the SOLO
Minford being the largest SOC II school will more than likely drop back from D4 to D5. That being said, the difference in enrollment is a major issue.
I think that on an average year in football for Jackson they would be competitive with Valley and Burg. On Jackson's average years and above average years for Minford and West they would compete. Waverly isnt an issue since they already play Jackson in football.
As far as the other boys sports, most of the SOC would be more than competitive with Jackson in baseball and basketball.
I think in a perfect world, add Jackson and let Waverly go to the SVL. It would be bigger gates and the travel is very comparable for most schools.

Re: Jackson petitions to join the SOLO
Waverly dropped Jackson. With Jackson's program and numbers if tough to be competitive with them. It doesn't benefit a team to get hammered before heading into league play.
Valley would compete with them this coming year. The Indians are headed for a big drop off after this coming season. Playing Jackson after this season would be ugly.
Football is the problem. Most SOC schools would get throttled by Jackson most years. Jackson is in a pickle of a situation. They are too big and strong for most leagues in southern Ohio.

Jackson should be contacting NY. Why are they not on the horn talking to Davey about scheduling a game. Is Jackson afraid of the Buckeyes?
Re: Jackson petitions to join the SOLO
So a league destroys itself through reckless expansion and now the teams that were party to the destruction are demanding successful leagues expand so they can have a shot at a trophy....What's the definition of insanity?

In Jackson's defense they were the lone school who voted against the ill-fated expansion that will ultimately kill the SEOALFIDO (Forget It Drive On) wrote:So a league destroys itself through reckless expansion and now the teams that were party to the destruction are demanding successful leagues expand so they can have a shot at a trophy....What's the definition of insanity?

Athens voted to leave the SEOAL July 2006. Jackson was the only no . Athens had a TVC bid for a few years before expanding. Once that vote passed Athens put in its notice to the SEOAL. Athens only voted yes because the other schools wanted to expand bad. Athens and Jackson were the only 2 that thought it was a terrible idea

Re: Jackson petitions to join the SOLO
I hate it for the youngsters playing the game. They didn't/don't have a vote. It's a darn shame adults can be so clueless when it comes to decision making. It was an ill-conceived plan to expand the SEOAL from mid-Ohio to the southern tip and from the eastern to western edges of SEO. Some of the big boys wanted to play in a big boy league and when things didn't go as planned it all unraveled. The SOC II, hopefully, learned a great deal about inviting teams into a league without any history or allegiance. Jackson will be fine!HSFBFAN wrote:In Jackson's defense they were the lone school who voted against the ill-fated expansion that will ultimately kill the SEOALFIDO (Forget It Drive On) wrote:So a league destroys itself through reckless expansion and now the teams that were party to the destruction are demanding successful leagues expand so they can have a shot at a trophy....What's the definition of insanity?
Re: Jackson petitions to join the SOLO
So years ago when Jackson didn't want expansion to the SEOAL were they making an intelligent decision or just skeered of competition like Blackjack says?
Re: Jackson petitions to join the SOLO
Westfan - don't know the answer to your question but i would think it was because of travel distance. Jackson fits perfectly in the distance category for the SOC.
Is West skeered of competition?? If not, then vote Jackson into the SOC. Don't run from better competition.
