What would you rather have?

A Football team with a Suffocating Defense and a Mediocre offense?

OR

A High Powered Offense and a Mediocre Defense?

High powered offense but you need both week 13-week 15

The answer depends on your individual philosophy. However, no game has ever been won by a score of 0-0. That alone indicates to me that a high powered offense may trump a high powered defense.

I would take the stronger defense. With an extremely tough defense, you can either generate points on defense or you will constantly be setting your offense up in good field position and an average offense will be able to put up at least a few points. Ideally you would have a balance of both, but a high powered offense will eventually make a mistake or run into an extremely good defense that stops them. Its not good to put your offense in a position where they have to score 40 points a game.

Lights out Defense wins most football games. It has been proven many times.

I've never seen a game where a team scored fewer points than an opponent and won.

That being said, special teams and defense can score points, but a team's offense tends to generate a lot more points over the course of a season than its defense and special teams.
