Bucs 8 Mets 1

Pirates sweep the NL East first place Mets on the road and record their MLB leading 13th series sweep of the year.

Buccos bats added another homerun today giving them a homer in their last 10 games.

The bullpen is now 56-1 when inheriting a lead in the 7th inning on. They have also won their 16th straight game, the most in MLB since the Pirates won 22 straight back in 1909.

The Pirates went 7-2 in their last 9 games, all against first place teams, Dodgers, Cards and Mets. Only a 1-2 series vs the Cards is the only setback but they were 4-2 and 4-3 losses to the best team in baseball and at their park. We are 5 back of the front running Cards.

Pirates are 9-4 this month and head for home for 3 vs the D-backs and 4 vs the Giants.

Game 1 vs the Snakes has the Bucs sending out staff ace Cole vs Hellickson.

Bucs 3 Giants 2

Bucco offense was limited to just 4 hits but they totaled 14 bases as Jung Ho Kang (rookie of the year candidate) hit 2 solo blasts and Sterling Marte hit a walkoff solo shot with 2 out in the bottom of the 9th to win it. CANNONBALL!

Pirate starter Gerrit Cole was his All-star self (7IP 1R 3H 8K) and the bullpen won its 18th straight decision, the longest streak in MLB since 1909.

Bucs play their 3rd national tv game this week in game 4 on ESPN Sunday night baseball as they send out Liriano to face Vogelsong.

RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER!!!

Bucco starter Happ goes 6IP, 0 R 4 H 1 BB 6 K. He just keeps getting better since he came over from Seattle.

Melancon gets his MLB best 40th save by pitching a 3 pitch 9th inning. Outstanding.

Pirate offense stratched out 5 runs on 9 hits but were an awful 3-17 WISP. This needs to improve.

Bucs go for their 6th straight road win in game 2 as they send out Morton to face Hand.

LETS GO BUCS!!!

Jung Kang Ho! Hello!! He may be the rookie of the year... Question about tonights game...Why wasn't the Marlins manager thrown out as well? I thought it was automatic if a pitcher is thrown out for throwing at someone the manager got the boot too...

I agree about Kang but Kris Bryant for the Cubs is the media's darling and I think he is a lock because of that.

The only thing I can say as to why the manager wasn't tossed is because home plate ump Kellogg never gave a warning. He just threw the pitcher out after 2 straight Pirate batters were knocked back and the next one was hit. Personally, I think their pitchers just lack control.

We lead the league in hit batsman, but we also lead the league in hitting the other teams batters. :122249

Bucs 7 Marlins 2

RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER!!!

Bucco starter Locke gives a quality start (7 IP 2R 5H 1BB 3K) while reliever Blanton mows em down (2 IP 0R 0H 0BB 3K).

Pirate bats score early and often while McCutchen gets 4 RBIs and raises his average to .394 WISP.

Bucs look to win the series finale tonight as they send out Cole (14-7 2.49) to face Nicolino (2-1 3.77).

Bucs 2 Marlins 1

RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER!!!

Cole was on his game (7.1IP 1R 5H 0BB 4K) to get his 15th win of the season and Watson and Melancon were on theirs as well (1.2IP 0R 1H 0BB 1K) in relief.

Bucco bats scratch out just enough hits to plate 2 runs with Alvarez getting his 21st dinger to provide the winning run.

Pirates head back home to face the Rockies as they send out Liriano to face Gray in game 1. Bucs have won Liriano's last 10 starts and he is 5-0 3.19 during that stretch.

Rockies 5 Bucs 0

Pirates win the series 2-1 but looked awful in this game.

Not real pleased with the starting lineup in this one for the Bucs. Walker should have started at 2nd and even though Mercer had 2 of the Bucs 4 pitiful hits, you have to find a spot for Kang in the starting lineup, he has earned it. Alvarez has been hot but if don't want to start him against the lefty, fine, but don't start Morse, start Rodriguez.

My question, are we trying to win the division with a lineup like this or just trying to host the wildcard game? Will lose a game to the Cards today that we just picked up.

Bucco starter Morton is nearly perfect thru 3 and he gets shelled in the 4th. Teams seem to figure him out after their first look at him. May be time to have him miss a start and give the ball to Blanton for a game.

Off day tomorrow. It will interesting to see who the September call ups will be on Tuesday.

Bucs start a 9 game road swing Tuesday in Milwaukee for 3, then to St Louis for 3 and on to Cincinnati to close it out for 3. We need to win all 3 series to have a chance at the division title. Neither Cole or Liriano are scheduled to pitch in St Louis. With the off day tomorrow we may need to juggle the starting pitching a tad for the St Louis series.

This one was frustrating today....I'd hope to God they are trying to win the division.I know we've won the top wild card the last two seasons, but I'm starting not to be a big fan of the two wild card system. As for the lineups,I think Clint is trying to keep everyone happy. But I think the lineup we had prior to Harrison and Mercer came back was the best.
