Due to an all day rain, game 2 was postponed and scheduled as part of a doubleheader today.

Game 2 has the Bucs sending out Cole to face Wacha.

Game 3 has the Bucs sending out Morton to face Lyons.

1 Cardinal victory gives them the NL Central title.

Bucs need a DH sweep today.

HOIST THE COLOURS MATE!!! ALL HANDS ON DECK!!!

LETS GO BUCS!!!

Game 2 Bucs 8 Cards 2

Cole was on his game again as the Bucs inched closer to the Cards.

Game 3 Cards 11 Bucs 1

Bucs never had a chance with Morton on the mound as he struggled to put in 2 innings in his start.

Bucs should have won game 1 but didn't and that hurt the most.

Cards win the division for the 3rd straight year. Since the start of the 2013 season, the Cards have won the most games in MLB at 287 and have 3 NL Central titles to show for it. The Pirates have won the 2nd most games with 277 and have 3 wildcard spots.

Cards have 100 wins. Bucs 96. Cubs 93.

Bucs end the regular season with a 3 game set vs the Reds this weekend. They must win 2 of 3 to secure the home field vs the Cubs.

Cubs have 4 games left, today vs the Reds and then 3 at Milwaukee.

Wildcard game win be on Oct 7th and the Bucs will start Cole vs Arrieta.

Friday night the Bucs will start Liriano vs Sampson.

HOIST THE COLOURS MATE!!! MAKE FULL SAIL FOR BUCTOBER!!!

LETS GO BUCS!!!

RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER!!!

Bucs secure the home field in the wild card game vs the Cubs.

The 3 best teams in MLB are from the NL Central. Cards with 100 wins, Bucs 98 and Cubs 97.

Wednesday's wild card game has all the makings of a pitcher's duel as the Bucs and Cubs will both be sending out their aces to the mound, Cole vs Arrieta.

Bucs need to bring their "A" game, especially their offense, as Cubs starter Arrieta has been nearly unhittable since the All-star break.

HOIST THE COLORS MATE!!!

RUN OUT THE LONG NINES!!!

LETS GO BUCS!!!

Baseball has produced this mess. Win almost 100 games and one game winner-takes-all bounces them. How did it feel having hope for 162 games? MLB can do better!

Cubs 4 Bucs 0

Arrieta was as expected, outstanding 9IP 0R 4H 0BB 11K. Cubs get just enough offense off of Cole to support a pitcher who is having a great season.

Bucs had their chances to score, especially in the 6th with bases loaded with 1 out. If they could have plated a run or 2 there it might have been a different story but it wasn't.

It is sad that we have a 1 game playoff but that is the way it is. The 3 best teams in baseball are in 1 division and those 3 teams will ellimate each other during the first week of the post season.

I think the Cubs (or the Pirates) could get past the Cards due to their injuries, however I don't see the Cubs winning the World Series but I could be wrong, they have a great manager in whom players love to play for.

It was a GREAT season to be a Pirate fan but it ended to soon. Off season issues to be addressed, especially, finding a 1st and 3rd baseman.

Until spring training...

the cubs will NOT win the series....A sad empty feeling for sure...But you got to move on...We've improved by leaps and bounds since Hurdle took over..Just got to win the division next year..It still stinks though. The only poetic justice would have been if arietta would have pulled a hamstring stealing second. And Rodriguez needed to use a bat on the water cooler not his fists...

I don't think they will either, even though its just a coincidence, but still a pretty funny prediction from way back in 1989 for a team like the Cubs who hardly ever even make the playoffs let alone win a game in the playoffs.I'd like to see the Cubs win though, the sales of that DVD would skyrocket. I agree with dazed it's a shame these two teams couldn't have played more games to decide who moves on,one game just doesn't seem fair.

How about changing things up for MLB? For the first round, do a double elimination tourney a la college baseball. Play different teams. One loss doesn't doom you but two does. Split the leagues into two divisions, have four wild cards participate in the elimination tourney, then to the standard playoffs with the division winners holding byes and first round home field.

I don't see much changing as long as the schedule stays at 162 games. If it does then in my opinion they need to go back to only 1 wild card who would play the divison winner with the best record in round 1 with the other 2 divison winners facing off. All series would be best of 7 at 2,3,2.

If they go to a 154 game schedule then you could go with 3 divison winners and 2 wild cards. The 2 wild cards would play a best 2 out of 3 at 1,1,1 with that winner playing the team with the best record. Then a best of 7 the rest of the post season.

Or...

Have the 3 divison winners and the next best 3 records, then seed the teams #1-6. Have the #1 and #2 seeds with a first round bye and seeds 3-6 play a best of 3 series with the other divison winner and the highest other seed having home field advantage in a 1,1,1 series. The 2 series winners then face the #1 and #2 seeds in a best of 7 series 2,3,2 with the #1 and #2 seeds having home field advantage.
